One thing I forgot to mention in the video is how frequently I clean the Billy XL cage. I don't have a set schedule for my cages as the length of time they stay clean depends on several different factors (e.g. substrate, temperature, hamster current diet...). The shortest time my cages remain clean for is 4 weeks but sometimes they can last as long as 8 weeks. Spot cleaning, toy cleaning and "substrate shuffling" are all important factors to help keep a cage cleaner for longer as well as good ventilation. The larger a cage and the more substrate you use the less often it will need to be cleaned which is better for your hamster :)
Emily Rodriguez that's completely incorrect. It really depends on how big your cage is. A bin cage is about every 3 to 4 weeks. A tank is about 3-6 weeks
ErinsAnimals omg I feel sorry for the hamster living in its own poo and old food an dit must get sooo bored with the same toys I already change toys every week and let them have bedding paper (toilet paper)
As a person who works in the field of animal care, I wish everyone was like her. She has inspired me to think of fun and creative ways to stimulate my hamsters and make their lives better.
Haha! To be fair on the camera screen my face looked SIGNIFICANTLY more wet than it does in the actual video. I looked like I'd had a waterfall installed in my forehead 😂
You should get one! My hamster is sooo sweet and loves human interaction. I don’t know if I got lucky or most hamsters are generally the same way but she makes me so happy and I’m sure a hamster would bring you the same joy 😆
Love the borrowing area! People underestimate how much hamsters love to burrow. All of my hamsters never use their hides, but rather burrow all of the time. Good cage!
It's strange that when I had Syrians I gave them a borrowing area each and not one touched it 🤔 I'll have to try it with my dwarfs I have now to see if they will haha
Campbell Massengill lol my hamster burrows in the corner! He has 3 hides and uses the restroom in his “bath hideout” but when he’s sleeping he burrows to the bottom of the cage 😂
I enjoyed this vlog style of video a lot, and of course it's always fun watching cage cleaning timelapses too! :) The finished setup looks beautiful and it's so nice of you to incorporate all of those different types of substrates. I love, love, love the wooden divider with the tunnel for sectioning off the different areas. Potassium will definitely enjoy that theme!
i love you so much Erin, the way you treat animals and try your hardest to make their lives the best they can possibly be is amazing. There needs to be more people like you in the world! xx
It turned out so nice! Well done Erin. I really love it :) And Po must love it too! It's nice for him to have so many different things in his cage to explore ^^
I have always used a vacuum for my hamsters cage. I’ve always been afraid of stressing her out so I have my mom watch her in a different room (less noisy). I’m glad I saw you do it so that I know it’s ok to do.
Putting them in a different room is definitely a good idea when it's possible, I would just say to just keep doing what you're doing as it's better for the hamster to be away from louder noises :)
I love the setup! I understand a few things may have been iffy, such as putting in wet substrate, using unsanitized play sand, and using wood pellets and chips as main beddings, I think she did an amazing job especially with dealing with heat.
I hate when famous people like FaZeRug and many other youtubers get hamsters for fun and don't give them proper care or space..... which Erin clearly shows she really cares for her pets!
Anais Becerril Chapa it’s not a dumb question, Hirath knows that Guinea pigs are meant to be kept in pairs it more so ACTUALLY, don’t call them dumb and realise that people make mistakes 😑
Anais Becerril Chapa you seem like a DELIGHTFUL person, who accepts when they r wrong and DEFINITLEY aren’t big headed. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 (I can do more than u 🙃)
That cage is so lovely! I'm just wondering, is she not able to break out? I think my hamster would easily find some way out there since there's no roof
Hi Erinsanimals my hamsters poo is bigger and softer than usual after giving him some fruits like strawberries and carrots is it because he has wet tail or if he has a doet change?
Team Egginators - Roblox & More! If he has wet tail he would be having diarrhea and would be extremely lethargic and just look like a sick hamster. If you think he may be sick I would consult a veterinarian ;)
It sounds like you're giving him too much fruit and veggies too fast. Hamsters and other animals need time to adjust to diet changes. Try giving your hammie just a pawful of 1 veggie/fruit. Watch him for signs of soft poop, and if he has any, reduce the amount. After you've gone a day or so without any soft poo, you can add in a different veggie, or a bit more of the same one. This way, you know what upsets your hamsters stomach, and you're gradually building his tolerance fore wet foods. I've gone through this process with hamsters, gerbils, and rats, and every animal has needed to start with a lower amount of fresh food, and gradually worked there way up to more of it.
emotional potato yup, it is a very good idea to have multiple hideouts. Hamsters most usually get nervous and don't like to come out very often if they feel that they don't have any shelter to go to/hide in.
First time viewer, and I am absolutely blow away. Little Potassium must be the happiest hamster in the world by far! I know that if I were a hamster, I would want to live there and have you take care of me. Keep up the amazing work! 🐹🐹🐹
I've had my first hamster for two months now. I've been spot-cleaning his bin cage but I think it's time to do a full cleaning and maybe a little rearranging of his huts, the sand bath, toys, chews, etc... I haven't done it yet because I noticed he's been making several tunnels/burrows and also he has a stash of seeds in one of his huts and I'm not sure if I should remove his stash and if he's going to be upset when he finds his burrows gone when I clean the cage. Please, I need your advice.
Skittle Trash Hello! chocolatecolors26 did a live stream on Instagram, and she said that fazerug dm'd her on how to take a hamster properly. I think he might though in the future :')
SerafinaSquish Hi. Yeah hopefully he wont keep mistreating his pets just for veiws. His subscribers defend him when commentors from the hamster community try tell him to change his ways. Its one thing to treat a pet badly, and worse to broadcast it on the internet 😳
If You Actually Watch His Videos, You Will Hear Him Say That He Was About To Get A Twenty Gallon Tank For Hammie. He Just Does That For Entertainment And He Takes Them Down Afterwards. Nice Talking To You. :)
I absolutely LOVE this set up! I live in Belgium and it has been really hot the last couple of weeks (which never happens) and it was so hard to keep my hamster cool. I will be recreating this cage theme in my detolf the next time I clean it because I love the way it looks and my hamster loves sand so this is awesome! Loved the video Erin, definitely one of my favourites!
I am getting a hamster very soon! I am extremely excited but I am also worried becuase I have never had a rodent before. Anyone have any ideas about building/buying cages for my new furry friend?
I have three questions, 1. Can i use carefresh for this time of year? 2. I have a hamster and i really like him but im kindof scared to hold him... Is there anyway to make me more comfortable around him? 3. My friends cat died yesterday, is there anyway of helping her cope?
Hey, I wanted to help you with #2, I got my dwarf hamster about 8 months ago, I take him out and play with him every night but I always either let him free range or find a way to cover my hands with my sleeve or something 😂 I decided I would not be scared to hold him so I slowly have started to put my hand in the tank and let him come to me. He hasn't bitten me at all! Now I am comfortable with holding him inside his cage! I would recommend just starting gradually!
How hot does it get where you live? If it exceeds triple digits in a regular basis I wouldn't reccomend it. If your hamster doesn't seem uncomfortable with the CareFresh, and you provide cool rocks, mugs and sand baths and it doesn't get very hot it should be fine. If not, I could reccomend something like aspen or beech chips.
Hi! I used to work in a zoo and we would use highly diluted HDQ, rinsed very well in our dirty transport kennels. In case you're ever in the market for a new cleaner.
It's a beautiful setup, I really appreciate how much she cares for all her animals. But, one question, how on earth will you find potassium in the burrowing area?
amazing video erin! i love how the divider looks like and it gave me huge inspiration to make something similar in the future.. love it so much.. can you do a video about beach wood bedding or whatever its called, its totally new to me and i would love to know the benefits and downsides of using that substrate.. keep up with the good work xxx
Cheese Cheese not been on youtube for a while I missed a few videos. I thought she said it in the last one I watched but thought she meant she used too
I am planing to make a diy cage. Do the cage have to be white, or can it be black? I want a black cage, but i want it to be as safe for the hamster as possible☺️ If it’s unsafe with black paint, i would go for a white cage. Or is it the same?
Actually its not save at all. People please dont do that. Hamsters are really sensitive, they can get a lung infection really easily. The water, etc should be room temperatur. Just think of it. If we eat or drink very cold things we can get ill too. So what do you think a little sensitiv hamsters body is going react to this
@@kristina5544 Uhh no. Cold water is actually good for our body. Room temperature is only for the outside but the insides function easier in cold. Trust me I grew up with mammals my whole life..
Great video! but i have silly question. It's summer time right now, and its really warm, so, for the granite tiles, can it be different colors like, there's white one, would the color effect the temperature? also, i sleep with a fan on the whole night, and it gets alittle bet chilly, im scared that my mouse would get too cold, should i keep the fan or keep it off? Also fyi, the fan is in my window, so gets the cold air from outside to inside
love watching u clean the cage and rerange it so cool to watch xxx do u just use normol play sand or do u oven cook it first I hot told have oven cook it before giving to hamsters xx
This is fabulous! Just want to ask two things: I've always heard that wooden pellets are uncomfortable on the little feet and that it is only supposed to be for lining the bottom of the habby underneath the bedding substrate. Is this not true? Secondly, we've always been told to bake all sand to dry and/or sanatise it. Do you leave yours damp just because of the heat and is it OK to not sanatise?
Jade Leonard I’m just gonna let you know that this video is 2yrs old and she does add more substrate in her more recent videos. The in this old version of the cage it was harder to add more bedding since the lid flat and the sides were small, but the issues have been fixed.
Hi erin! Please answer im just so hopeless. I have play sand for kids as my campbell's bathing sand. I noticed u dumped your play sand directly from the bag. Do i need to sterilize it still? Thanks!
I love your channel you inspired me to get a hamster by following your videos and subscribing I have successfully trained 2 baby robovoski hamsters !!!!!! And have had a great time setting up the cage and playing with my hamsters baby and harry Xx
Where can I buy these kinds of toys? I’d love to get my Margot some bridges and things to climb on but my Petsmart and Soldans doesn’t have a very good variety. Is there an online store people like as well?
Hi Erin, just a quick question: is there a specific reason for my dwarf hamster to collect the wood pellets into her nesting area? She collects them just like she does with her food... Thank you in advance Have a nice day!
Hey I noticed at the beginning of the video you said there are certain substrates that keep the cage cooler! since I live in Florida and planning on getting a hamster soon, could you tell me which substrates keep a cage cooler?
Hello! I was just wondering because in the beginning of the video you had you digging tower up against the front of the cage. Has your hamster ever gotten to the top of it and tried to climb out a of the cage? No hate, just wondering😃thanks!
I love your cage😍 so many people don‘t know how to hold a hamster and use them for likes and follows. You‘re different. Greetings from Germany 🥰🥰❤️ (sorry for my English😅)
You seem very professional, I love it. If I'm going to have just one substrate, what would you recommend? Also, what kind of hamster do you have and should they be more than one in a cage or separate? (please reply)
I keep watching hamster videos even though I don’t have them. I want one, but I just adopted a rabbit a year ago, and I don’t want to seem too naggy with my parents. I have a PowerPoint about one time cost, monthly cost, what I will do for him/her, but I probably won’t show them for a few months! 😂Lets hope I have lucky maybe around Christmas time!
You should remake the video on safe pet bedding because I see a lot of different fittings that you're using and I have trouble finding them in knowing if they're safe
Hi Erin! I was wondering what size/brand tube you used for potassium to go from one side of the wall to the other? The crittertrail tubes by kaytee in my petstores seem to cater more to smaller dwarf hamsters and I'm not sure if my hamster would fit through it. I was planning to use it to connect my two bin cages for my hamster. TIA :)
My one question is in the digging area....as he is burrowing around wouldn't the box just slowly shift down? The reason I ask is because my hamster ends up burrowing under all her toys and they slowing sink down to the bottom of the cage. I guess you just have to pull it up every once in a while...I wouldn't want a smashed hamster though.
I don't know if you can do the same thing for hamsters, but with my rabbits we put tiles in the cage. My bunnies love to lay on them seeing as they stay cool all the time.
Hi, u dont know if u have shown a video like this... But how do u make the deciders for your cage and what do u make it out of like the divider for sand bath and the burrowing
