About a month ago we had a realtor friend come to our house to do a walk through and give us a guesstimate of our house's current value. He was impressed with some upgrades we had done, loved the decorating and how well maintained we keep the house, how tidy and clean we keep everything. Then he opened the door to my craft room and "Holy Crap!!" exploded from his mouth before he had a chance to filter. My husband was like "I know, right?". I laughed so hard I thought I would pee my pants. I should have been a little offended (?) but it just struck me funny. They both looked like they had seen a version of hell they hadn't thought existed. LOLOLOL!!! It has since been straightened and organized-ish :-D

I've been wanting to do the same with getting an idea on our homes worth and say the same thing about my craft room because there's a ton of stuff and it's so bright and colorful and located when you walk in the door because it's the old living room. I laugh everytime I open the door for the UPS guy because he must think Im nuts.

Your honesty is an inspiration, and your talents are immeasurable. I think all crafters are "chaotically organized"! But your video is a good reminder that sometimes you have to let go of things you don't need. I think most of us do better in a clean work space. Job well done!

Kristina, this was an amazing video: an honest, typical look into a creators workspace. I don't feel this is embarrassing for you at all. You'll find that people that "make things" in art, fashion, crafts, interiors, construction, etc., have this type of clutter that they are constantly managing while they are working. I prefer this approach then the appearance that this never happens. For example, when a house is being built, the site often appears cluttered with materials, equipment, and the like. It is constantly managed throughout the building process so that it doesn't pose a safety hazard, while at the same time, keeping materials and equipment readily available for builders to use. Thank you for showing us the realistic state of a crafters workroom, and how you manage that space. A very useful, practical video. Lisa🕊

@@TheSundayCall Wow....you really have a negative attitude. I'm sure you feed your kids, too, assuming you have them. Feeding oneself is not "cheating". It's called life. It may not be pretty, but it's what we have. These are crafting boards. It's not a good place for condemning people for the way they live. Since you appear to be fairly religious, maybe you should find some boards on religion and comment there instead.

This looks like my craftroom right now, and I thank you for your honesty and realness. It’s a vicious cycle we crafty people seem to go through. I call it my “Crafters Four C’s Cycle Rule”....Create, Craft, Clutter, and Clean. This is my creative life cycle as a paper crafter. The “Crafters Four C’s Cycle Rule” works for me as long I you don’t break the chain, meaning I must get the “Clean Cycle” complete, before I get the the next new cycle of “Create” started again. If I bypass this order, then I end up in a hot mess...AKA...chaos, so I avoid breaking the chain. Each time I go thru this cycle I get a chance to incorporate new goodies, and rethink the older supplies that I no longer want to keep.

Ask me how I know.... I’m so proud of your overcoming any perceived shame and allowing yourself to be both vulnerable & transparent before a viewing audience and just getting it done like a BOSS! Oh Kristina, you are a breath of fresh and honest air. I craft and my craft lair/teleworking site is a horde. I spend more time looking for stuff than crafting these days because it's been so long since I added my new (14 month's worth of) stuff into my pre-existing horde. And so yes, I have boxes and bins of stuff to integrate into other stuff....it's a little stressful. But...I can craft or I can organize but I rarely have time for both. You're the best--thank you SO much for keeping it real--you have a professional version of my hobby-sized mess and it is WONDERFUL to know that I'm not alone in my mess. Congrats on your clean up, but it's great to know that you're a rather chaotic creator like so many of the rest of us. Thank you!!

Kristina, I love this idea of a capsule crafting collection. This is a wonderful hobby but I must admit one of the changes that I have seen over the years that I don't enjoy is the large amount of new product every month. Much of it is wonderful and inspiring but it isn't always good for the budget or even creativity. I am in the process of going through my supplies to prepare for a crafty yard sale in March and I think your capsule idea will help me think about what to keep and what to sell. Thank you for the inspiration and your willingness to share your process.

I can’t even pare down a crafting capsule for traveling because of too many options in my stash, so I’ve never enjoyed crafting at crops or with friends away from home other than one time in over a decade of paper crafting. That isn’t healthy and the plethora of options actually does stifle my creativity. I get it and appreciate your openness about the issue so many of us share! We love you and honestly you’re my favorite and most trusted in the entire community because you are so genuine. I feel when we are open and honest we do open doors to relationships and connectedness. Praying for your continued growth and blessings along your journey... I had the same problem, Margaret! When I packed to go to a crop o took too much stuff then I was so overwhelmed at the event I couldn’t accomplish anything, then I had guilt for spending time away from my family where I accomplished nothing. And the unpacking was brutal too! Now when I go to an event I take one project. I might make more than one design with the same stamp set and dies, or I take enough stuff to scrapbook one event. I feel so much more accomplished! I don’t know how your events are, but I mostly end up eating and talking anyway 😂

I love that we are all so similar you guys are my tribe one thing I have found when going to crops is that I need to take things that I have already stamped that are ready to color then I can take my different color mediums watercolor Copics whatever I want to color with and I can color happily I also take things that are already colored I have two of those large iris clear keeper things one with colored items one with items ready to color and then I can take card stock and actually assemble cards I take a few standard diecuts like ovals rectangular die sets so that I can cut out certain images and then cut a mat for them and put them on a card base that is the most productive that I can be at a big crop where there’s lots of visiting and eating and shopping.

Just know, you are not alone! All crafters/artists get caught up in the creation and neatness falls by the wayside. We all reach a point where we say “enough!” and take time to clean up and organize. I was a high school art teacher right out of college and at one parent teacher meeting I apologized for the art room being in disarray. I’ll never forget one mom saying, “Don’t apologize! Anyone walking in will know art is happening here. An uncluttered art room is not natural!” I have recalled that comment many times over my lifetime of artistic messiness. 💕💕💕

It’s so nice to see that I am not alone in the messy craft space. What happens it becomes over whelming and you don’t want to craft or you cant find anything which is worst. I have made a catalog and that is nice because when ready to work it helps me design before even starting. I am going to love these videos. This also goes into other things around the house.. I would love to have each room in my home to not have any Random piles of anything. My motto is going to be one day at a time and do one complete room at a time. That seems to be a constant process for us "crafters". Creating can be a messy process. And, that's perfectly okay. Clean it up when you feel like it. My craft room is in my basement, so no one ever "accidentally" sees it. In fact, I bought my house because of the size of the basement knowing most of it would turn into my crafting space. I have friends over once a month to craft together. It works out great, and I've never heard one of them complain about the messiness.

I can't seem to stop buying new stamps and dies and too often I end up making only one card from a $40 stamp and die set. That's a pretty expensive card. I even have stamps and dies that have never been used along with enough cardstock and designer paper to last me the rest of my life. That's just crazy. Can't wait to see how this goes. Thank you for your honesty. I feel that a lot of us that craft, get caught up in all the new products and lose sight of being more creative with what we have. Oftentimes I feel more like a collector than a crafter. I have a craft room and it’s overwhelming and overflowing with craft stuff. I’m going to get a handle on mine also.

Edna, I identify with being a collector also. The new stuff is so exciting, but instead of using it, I just get more. I must reign myself in.

Your craft area isn't really messy. It's a wonderful "works in progress", some physical, some mental as creative juices flow around in your brain. If you want really messy, mine is the poster girl for a true disaster because I have a very small room. So my new resolution is no new purchases, no matter how much I'm dying to have that new stamp, die, ink, tool, etc. I'll see how long I can keep it. & in the meantime you will continue to be my muse, no matter what your craft room looks like to you.💕

Well I don't see anything but complete love and support. Learning to craft was my safe space and great therapy when recovering from breast cancer and a a bilateral mastectomy. That was almost five years ago (I am cancer free) and still going. You, my dear, were one of my first therapists. And yes, art is therapy. You are absolutely fabulous, inspiring, full of goodness, love and light. If you were perfect, that would be difficult for me - and I am sure many others. You very honestly share your struggles, mistakes, failures, successes, excitement, concerns, creativity and insight. You are wonderfully human and so appreciated for keeping it real. You will be in my payers for success in this endeavor. God Bless you and PLEASE keep being you.

LOVE THIS!!!!! Thank you so much for giving us a behind the scenes shot that resembles the chaos of my craft room! The best bit of having a messy craft space is that you regularly find lost treasure! I am definitely going to try a capsule craftdrobe, such a clever way of sparking creativity and making you realise what you actually use. If anyone has negative things to say, ignore them! Keep being you, you wonderful inspirational lady!!

Thank you for being vulnerable and showing your room. It’s a nice space. I have a dedicated room that my 15 yr old says, and I quote, “mom, uhg, it feels like I just stepped into an episode of Hoarders”. I am going to try the capsule idea. Downsizing sounds very daunting but, honestly, I don’t use most of the stuff I have. It’s pretty and cool so I “might” need it. I am a craft supply collector but my collection has outgrown its space.

This is one of the best craft room 'tours" I have ever seen.. it was totally real, brave and useful! I think you are very brave to put yourself out on a limb like that, and it helped me see that I am not the only one that "has all her ideas on display." (thats code for messy..lol) I think a capsule is a brilliant idea for corralling ideas, especially if you work in vastly different mediums. From the bottom of my heart Kristina, thank you for sharing.

Exactly, the stuff that doesn’t have a home is the stuff that makes my craft space messy. Otherwise, it’s pretty organized. I also feel that I have a hard time with so many supplies, I can’t decide what to use. The bad news is, I say that and yet I don’t want to get rid of things. I feel I paid too much for them, I’m happy to have them and no one would pay anywhere near their worth for them. I’ll be following along on your journey. Please don’t be embarrassed, many crafters have very similar messes. You will inspire many others to get their spaces neatened up.

It not messy is more of creating art in that zone. I understand been overwhelmed with everything out. Feel great when everything is back were it belongs. I appreciate you showing us before and after your work space. Feel good to see we go thru the same things. I saw the second video first then this one. Looking forward in the month of February. I recently reorganized my craft room. I decided that I had to cut one of my subscriptions because I never used them. I just decided to dedicate my love for Brutus Monroe products, SSS, and a line of MFT. It was a hard decision but one I had to make. Your craft room is beautiful! Mine is only a little nook but I’m grateful I have a place to create. It’s not exactly set up how I want it but Ill get there a little at a time. I make one card with takes me a long time to create and it looks like a bomb went off. I vowed to myself once I’m done a project to put it all away! (I don’t know how long it will last lol) Thank you for sharing!
