If you just want to see the vacuuming portion of the video, skip to 21:20
In this video, we finally clean the 1977 Chrysler Town & Country wagon's interior! The weather here in NY finally decided to cooperate. Cleaning the wagon was quite a bit of work, but it definitely paid off. In the near future, we need to clean the exterior as well. So expect a video for that too! Please remember to like, share, and subscribe. Thank you for watching!

Best to take out everything and clean it. That way you get down to the metal floor. Then you can really clean that carpet outside the car.

The odd part with wires you could not identify appears to be a power radio antenna (they retract into the fender when the radio is turned off & come up when it is turned on). Keep the old gas tank float. It should be possible to clean it and replace the sock portion. Even the old starter relay can likely be reconditioned if it has metal folded over tabs - unfold them carefully and the inner parts will lift out. Clean the contacts inside with fine sandpaper and reassemble.

The engineering of the wagon portion of what is essentially a New Yorker is amazing. I remember most of these getting destroyed in demolition derbies on Long Island. Thank heavens you rescued one.

I always reinstall spare tires on every kind of vehicle I or our family has owned new & used so that the valve stem could be accessed for checking air pressure that is why so many spares are flat or incorect pressure because no one is going to take out the spare just to check the air I know I never checked the air because the valve stem could not be accessed easily

That part at 14:19 looks like a "hush panel". It clips underneath the dashboard to keep sound from the firewall from coming into the passenger compartment. The round cutout should go round the steering column.

Nice job doing your best to clean the car up, there is a lot of real estate to cover in there. I always hope to uncover original factory spare tires never on the ground when we go over classics. They are obviously useless as a spare but it is fun to say the spare is original. On long trips we keep a modern spare in a bag in the trunk. No way would I ever use the factory spare, never mind how old it is, once it is on the ground, and the rim scratched, meh, it is just a used spare! Please keep up with the dedication to this car!

Nice job! I suggest getting a Bissell cleaner to go over all the carpeted surfaces. That will help get rid of any funky smells. Also, you can get Rust-Oleum spray paint for plastic to spray the interior faded plastic trim. As close shade of brown would make it look good.
@theunskilledmechanic

My parents always enjoyed station wagons when I was a kid new LTD Country Squires Every year from 69 to 79 they always traded & got a good deal because once you got a good sales price starting out then it was easy to trade all the time and stay in a new car the trade difference was always low My Mom liked the front of the Pontiacs but they did not go for the Bill Mitchell clam style tailgate on the GM wagons from 71 threw 76 but they loved the Country Squires & Colony Parks My Mom really liked the Mercury but my Dad could not justify paying more for what was the same car with more but different trim and they thought the Dodge and Chrysler / Plymouths were whales & hippos on wheels

Most all my old cars the carpet needs replacing I've been known to spray paint it to restore the color it's nylon so use walmart plastic paint on it. The rear side windows will need to be removed and reinstalled with new urathane so they don't start to loosen and fall out,it's a hell job but lasts another 30 years same with the windshield it can be done but it's very delicate because they want to crack.go to rock auto and if any weather stripping is still available buy it while you can find it.my pandemic project peugeot I bought parts from 8 different countries and most items were the )ast one available.euro parts were scarce on that car but it turned out like a dream.spent more money on parts than I paid for the car. Replaced all the plastic couplers on the entire wire harness.add3d power windows added heated seats,added 8 speaker stereo ,upgraded brakes from 1974 to 1982. It's so much fun to drive old cars I call metal bumpers.all our vintage metal bumpers became girders in Chinese buildings and they send back plastic and took our metal.....modern cars are called 1 whack its on a rollback....

That was a nice find. I love vintage cars. There is just something about them that a lot of modern cars can't beat. They were also built to last haha. I'm currently trying to find a late 1960's Ford Thunderbird.

i agree with Richard for everything to be done properly you would have to take everything out, disinfect it because who knows for how long it was sitting and... what kind of mice urine and feces are caked into all of that. then go from there. If you do wanna get into that detailing stuff when you do Revival/Rescues, I'd suggest watching AMMO NYC or WD Detailing. Otherwise. I would have started out with the cleaning then the After shot Get you some WHITE Lithnolium spray grease for all the Window cranks, and anything that moves like that rear window it'll keep it Lubed. You can use WD-40 on the Hood Hinges also, for Electrical connectors/Plugins Dielectric grease. but don't use TOO much it'll sometimes take away from the current flowing though properly. P.s Don't be surprised when fuel tanks and such like that are not made for a car like this... Even my 1979 Pontiac lemans nothing is made for it. Took me 6 YEARS to find 2DR interior panels.
