2002 Toyota Sequoia idles at 2000rpm after a new fuel pump was installed. Disconnected battery terminal for 30 mins. After reconnected, car start up right away and idles perfect at 300-400 rpm. Thank you.
God bless you! Exact same situation for me. I replaced IAC valve and rpm has actually gotten higher or stay higher. I figured since I was replacing IAC I may as well take off throttle body and clean it. And I've been swapping bad to the original bad IAC valve just to use the vehicle until I have time to troubleshoot this. The bad one causes high rpm until coolant reaches O\Temp then settles down to around 700 but tends to fluctuate randomly but still better than 1800rpm all the time with maybe a drop down to no less than 1400 or so. Before I watched this video I was sitting here considering if disconnecting battery would reset anything related to IAC valve....and your video hit home as I hadn't even considered any trouble from the throttle body cleaning except wondering if I'd cause some vacuum leak as I didn't replace gasket, just took off and cleaned as you did and reinstalled. I even made sure the pintles on IAC valves were approx same extended length, thinking that for some reason starting with such a large gap in idle air port may be causing issue that pcm was just not correcting. I mean first install rpm was upwards to 3000 and from what I had studied about my vehicle I thought idle rpm was limited to around 2000rpm. So I was freaked out. Removed valve and rotated pintle out until just below same extended length as one I removed as it was at normal idle when removed. Anyways, thank you for this info you shared. I was so excited I started writing you this book and I haven't tried the battery disconnect yet. Lol! Sooooo! I'm going to now and I'll let you and all who may need same info know whether it worked for me as well. This happened to me too with my 2000 Camry with 110k miles with the 2.2l i4. I just disconnected both batteries and will leave them unhooked for a day then try again

1990's Toyota's are so simple to work on. ( Exaggerated statement but almost so true) My 1998 toyota Camry 4cyl can be taken apart with only 7 sockets:: 8-10-12-14-17-19-21.
I clean an electronic Honda Odyssey TB and it had air on the coolant lines and it was horrible idle 3 days later I saw this video and it gave me the idea to check the coolant for air and that fix it now idle is at 650 perfect
Cleaned throttle body on my 2014 Honda Odyssey. After reinstalling the TB, the van experienced high rpms. Mechanic just reset the throttle body with his $2000 scanner and the idle normalized.
First time my car went to high rpm it was because two wires in the harness had rubbed and shorted. Try wiggling your wires with harness in place and running. See if changes.
😮 I had my throttle body cleaned by Chevrolet and it runs even worse. I disconnected the battery terminal for about 30 minutes. I revveded the engine at 2 RPMs for 5 minutes with the air conditioner on high times 2 and the car ran great for 2 days but it's back to being schhity again. I will try it your way to see what happens I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox. Should I disconnect the positive cable as well? Wish me luck🥴
after a throddle body , pedal and MAF... you MUST have a scanner to reset the idle positon, I tried ALL the tricks I could look up ..NONE work... save time and money....get it programmed....PS I F'ed mine up by moving the TB while it was plugged in when cleaning it..... UNPLUG IT 1st!!
Just got trottle cleaned @ chevy. It sounds like ish. Surely they knew to disconnect the battery❓️😳 i disconnected the airflow sensor hoping it would work because i dont have a wrench to disconnect the battery. It didn't work😂 will buy some wrenches tomorrow or go to auto zone 🥴

Anytime I disconnect the battery in this 05 Highlander it loses idle settings and idles very low.. Usually takes a few days to relearn and return to normal..

I just cleaned my throttle body on my hhr 2006. And i moved the butterfly with my finger all the way. And now i have high rpm up to 3000. I tried the battery thing already after 30 min and nothing. Do i have to relearn it with a computer. And i also tried the “start the enging in idle and let it run for 3 min and then shut it off for 60 sec and again. And still doesn’t work. I fear i might of damaged the electronics inside the throttle body when i sprayed it with the cleaner.
My 04 ford focus was loosing power and giving code po122 throttle body position sensor. Replaced it and car wouldn't shift out of 1st. Removed battery temp. Now it is idling high. What next.
@@babatundeolotu2996 so there’s TWO Options , you could either go to a mechanic and have the TPS Reset for like $50-$60 and if that doesn’t fix the problem then You can just order a New Throttle Body & have a Mechanic Put it on for you and problem solved 🙏🏽💯That’s what I ended up doing purchased a new one . The thing with Electric Throttle Bodies is that we cant just clean them and problem solved it has sensors inside and once those sensors get moved inside that’s it 🤷🏽♀️ I honestly forgot mine was electric and that’s how I messed mine up but I’m glad I was able to buy a new one 👍🏽
After I cleaned my throttle body, the car idles faster when in park position and does not accelerate when pressing gas pedal in drive position. I need to turn off the ignition and restart the car again so I can accelerate. Should I replace the throttle body?
If you haven’t replaced the Throttle Body do it !! It’s Your only Cure 🤷🏽♀️😭 it happened to me unfortunately but have a mechanic do it because they have to Reset the TPS and program it
@@soniarican6275 Yeah. Replacing the throttle body is exactly what I did. I bought a used one from eBay for $25 and I replaced it myself. Car runs great now.

Electrical throttle body’s are probably one of the dumbest things in modern car manufacturing. Just cleaned mine in my 06 cobalt ls and now the rpm’s are freaking the fuck out, I’ve heard tale that the cobalts are infamous for that and I’m just gonna cross my fingers that eventually the system will relearn itself, my wallet is gonna cry from the gas bills we currently have but I mean hey electrical tb’s am I right? Who needs cable throttles?
@@bradrhoades1305 so it sortve fixed itself? I had to calm it down with my scan tool every now and then by controlling the rpm’s with it. And it’s fine now when on start up and giving it gas but if I use the AC it’ll rev itself. Which is fine since I don’t use the AC anyway I just roll down the window 😂
Same thing happen to me. But the problem with my Mitsubishi fuzion though is every time I shift gear from park to reverse and/or to D, it kicks so strong like something hit the rear or front. Any suggestion how to fixed the problem? Thanks .
@@soniarican6275 i cleaned mines and the maf sensor , now i got high idle with AC on And It stalls and turns off without the AC on 🙄😩, got to have one foot on the gas and the other on the brake to drive it lol 😩🤣
@@lilmike1965 Damn that means the Sensor inside got ruined , your gonna have to get a new Throttle Body installed , just don’t do what others do and Go too cheap on it cuz if you buy a cheap one your car will most likely not even start, But damn I totally get it , I remember having to do the same thing with the Brake Pedal and tapping the gas so it wouldn’t stall 🤦🏽♀️🤣😂🤣
Just here to let someone know that if you are still having issues with high idle it could be that the adle air flow sensor needs to be adjusted. Compare it to your old one ! My issue was that the point of the idle air flow sensor needed to be longer and it being put in without having the tip adjusted was causing the idle to be high even when I cleanes the throttle body.
I just cleaned my throttle body 2 days ago and the same thing happened with my RPM its on 2000RPM i've already drove it for a day but still experiencing high RPM when i'm on neutral but when it's in drive the RPM is around 1,100. Should I just keep using it and observe if the ECM will relearn correct idle?
@@tongo117 Hi bro. I just cleaned my throttle body and I'm now experiencing this problem. RPM is about 1300 steady and it lurches forward when I put it in reverse or drive. I tried the relearn procedure and drove it up and down the highway but it's still idling high. I will try your method of disconnecting the battery and report back to you to let you know if it fixed the problem.

Your estimation sounds plausible because yesterday I dropped in by mechanic and he was saying that my car [141 Corolla Axio] usually has IAC problems when the valve clogs up. My car was used in Japan and has not been properly serviced since so I know that it's a problem arising from a lack of maintenance. I cleaned the throttle body yesterday, blew some compressed air into the MAF sensor and cleaned the intake hoses [all of which were horrendously dirty] and now the vehicle is leaping from a standstill and is breathing remarkably well, but my idle is very high so that's the gist of my problem.
