Another option is to use a a very clean towel, tea towel size, or one of your choosing based on the amount of things to clean up. Either wet or dry, and using a small section of the towel, wipe out, off, as much as you can, per item. Move to a clean section of the towel and continue to each piece. You can set the dishes and utensils etc aside to Rinse as this video suggested, but if you need your items sooner, wiping them with a towel makes the cleanup sooner. Keep the towel for the same amount of soap curation you would normally. Pin a note or keep it, stored safely near your curing Soap. When it's ready, throw it in the washer to wash towels or other household items. Depending on your recipe this might not be suitable for your clothes, because of Super fats etc that could stain clothes. But for other things that wouldn't be an issue, it's a way to save on washing powder etc. Thanks for sharing this.

@@emerencespringer Great idea, I thought to wipe my stick blender off but I like your idea of wiping everything down. I need to know what to do with the container I mixed my lye solution in and the one that had the dry caustic soda, do I rinse them at the same time in the sink? Will they hurt my pipes?
@emerencespringer
@emerencespringer 2 года назад
@@marymcandrew7667 ... If your talking about the container that you had the dry lye and it's now empty, and the container that you mix the lye and your liquid?. If that's what you mean, yes, safely Rinse those immediately, and it "shouldn't" affect your pipes, I say shouldn't because I don't know what type of pipes or plumbing system you have. Technically, lye is mainly used in drain cleaner and in those oven cleaner spray cans. The towel idea isn't mine, I'm just sharing it. Another one is to have a designated container just for lye. One to measure and One to Mix. Rinse right away, just in case. Hope you have a great day.

That's a great idea - I never thought to add the silicone moulds to the washing. I don't have much soap, if any, left on my moulds to be honest, so I just give them a quick rinse.

Great information because most people would be impatient and wash right away but to me this is the smartest way 😎 Thank you! Also white vinegar will neutralize costic we used distilled white vinegar where I use to work so in theory you should be able to stick anything with lye on it in some white vinegar after using it to make it safer or if it got on your skin. Do your own research not an expert 😁

Thanks for the tips! What do you do with the container you mixed your lye solution with though? And I always wondered about throwing paper towels I used to clean up surface area directly into trash
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 5 лет назад
Hi there, I just rinse the lye solution container out with water as soon as I've poured it into the oils. That way I know there's no lye solution hanging around my kitchen that I could accidentally touch. There's no issue with putting lye solution down the drain, in fact it will help to clean it out. It's just the oily soap batter that's the problem. You don't have to worry about your paper towels either, you can just put them straight into the rubbish. As long as no children or pets are likely to go digging through it. If it's just soap batter on your paper towels this too will become soap in a day or two.

Or is it safe to use the one I already have for cooking?

Thanks for sharing this great tip. I just made my very first batch of soap, and I was wandering how I would go about cleaning the soap batter😅

Thank you for sharing this very helpful tips Elly. Since it turns to soap after leaving the containers and utensils for a few days, I guess it's safe to use the soap water in the bucket to wash dishes that we use for foods at the same time too, correct?

I scrape the dry, hard bits for a soap ball. There will still be enough soap on the items to clean up.

You could perhaps even rinse out your kitchen mop cloths in these suds !!

So much more sensible. I’ve read books that say to soak everything in vinegar to neutralize the lye, but why make another mess when it will neutralize itself naturally?

How do you clean up from the lye? My lye seemed almost static-y and got on the table. Also how do you clean the container that you mixed your lye in?
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 4 года назад
I just wipe any spilled lye with a damp cloth and rinse it straight away. Also just rinse out the lye water container with water, then wash as usual :)
