Pie! I still think of you every time I put on the Kicking Television vinyl…since you’re in the book! Ha! I’ve though about ultrasonics but the ProJect is doing the job for now. We keep talking about shooting down to SF for a weekend, I need to look you up while we’re in town!
I have the Spin Clean and a Humminguru ultrasonic cleaner. The Humminguru was a great option during the crowdfunding stage. It gets close in price to the ProJect though now.
I'm trying to track down an ultrasonic cleaner I can get in house to compare, though it's difficult to find two albums that are "the same dirty" to see which does better. :P
How about using the spin clean to clean the record and then just using the VCE to 'suck' and 'dry'? I think spin clean does better at removing the grime and dirt and loosening the dirt, than just using the fluid and spreading it around.
It's an option, but I'd only do it for really dirty records. The VC-E has the exact same brush material as the SpinClean and the vacuum pulls it very tight to the record when you lower the arm. The fluid loosens the grit and the brush helps grab it right as the vacuum pulls it away from the record.
@@thrillcat I didn’t realize that those pads also acts to clean the the record as well as seal the vacuum port. Would you say that the VCE’s cleaning is significantly better than spin clean or just marginally? In theory, it seems that the VCE should be much better cause the spin clean might just “spread” the dirt around instead of it being removed. Have you experienced this machine scratching, or worse, warping/damaging the record? I’m concerned abt the heavy arm sitting on an unsupported part of the record since only the label is supported by the base.
I've had zero issues. Would I say it's 5x better than the SpinClean (to match the price increase)? Probably not. It's definitely better, probably 2-3x better cleaning, but the fact that it's easier to use, you can do one at a time, that makes it worth the premium price point. As for the heavy arm, it's not putting any downward pressure on the record at all. When you put it in place, it is unable to drop any further than where it sits. It's aligned so that it barely makes contact with the record, but the vacuum pulls the record up tight against the arm, vs using gravity to pull the arm down against the record. No scratches, no warping, just cleaner records really quickly and easily.
@@thrillcat2-3x better is more than enough to justify it for me. And thanks for the additional insight as to how it works. I’m pretty new to all this machine stuff so this helps me understand what’s going on. Hope they give you a commission cause yoh just sold me on it. Thnx again
