Love the videos Mr Hickland. Products are so good. So important for bowlers to know how to clean their equipment. A lot of bowlers after league or tournament play just stick their equipment in the bag without cleaning it. Thanks for the video! #CTD #bowlingknowledge
Because there was probably a reason why. Don’t assume that they did it just because.and it’s not like this dude is playing during league play as well. So there’s that as well.
So, he started with a dirty 5000 grit with a dulled polish leaving 2-10's, end eventually ended up at a 5000 grit with a slightly less dulled polish leaving 2-10's, but took about 4 changes to get there. I love the video, and it teaches a lot, but in this case, he could of just moved 2 and 1 to the right (which is what he did at the end when he finally got lined up).... That said, this was about adjusting the surface, and quite frankly, was a great video, honestly. But just funny that the correct adjustment here was pretty much a small move. Still, I learned a lot about this product, and seems like something great to have for tournaments...
I saw the guy cleaned his ball and then wiped the bottom of his shoe with his hand and then touched the ball. Put all the dirt off the bottom of the shoe back on the ball.
products look good, i am always changing surfaces on my ball, makes a big difference. got to give the bowler credit for being to even throwing a good shot with the people next to him and with no bevel on the fingers and thumb .
Nothing like real world action. You could see how it came back on that first shot after "The WOW Factor" Even though he missed the shot outside, it still made the effort to come back strong.
Thank you for this i.portand lesson...My gut tells me these kinds of cleaning/surfacing adjustments are just fine tunings that a consistent bowler would benifit from based on lane conditions however i notice that league bowlers and pros will just go to a different ball to get the reaction required. It would be interesting to see a pro show up to a tournament with 3-4 of the same ball just with different surfaces and or drillings. Perhaps a future video for you!
You’ve gotta be kidding. Did he make one strike with all this? One, two? I clean my ball after completing my games. I think where you stand is the most important part of bowling!
The Video is an explanation of the difference between cleaning and wiping vs changing the surface. The amount of shots helps to covey the message. Striking or adjusting to strike is not the focus in this video.
@@Ctdbowling I still don’t understand on what to do to my purple hammer bc its not hooking at ALL on heavily oiled lanes and it used too but on my other 2 leagues thats not a heavily oiled pattern it hooks great its just the heavily oiled patterns that it doesn’t hook on anymore. You got any suggestions on what to do?? Ill tell u what I tried I tried cleaning the ball, I tried slowing my ball speed down, I tried wiping the oil off EVERY FRAME (I still do that of course) and I tried a stronger hooking ball and that wouldn’t even hook. I think thats all I tried. Im in SERIOUS need of help bc I’VE run out of options. The only thing I didn’t try was resurfacing the ball and thats what im gonna try next if no one can give me any other ideas on what to try.
So he went from needing to change the surface cause he was light then brought the surface lower came in high then brought the surface back to where it was ???? And this is all stuff you cant do during league or competition so what's the point just learn how to adjust
The guy in the pro shop at my local alley was trying a new unproven method of putting light, shallow grooves into balls. Supposed to give the ball better hooking capabilities via its ability to physically 'grab' the lane or something along those lines. Said the only real downside was it just wrecked the floor surface and oil patterns. I'm all for trying new things, but I wasn't sold on that one.
funny incident. I got some ball cleaner from an online shop out of korea, the cleaner put shine on a dull ball. threw it the following week. no hook at all. my question is. ball cleaners are not supposed to change the surface of the ball?
yes, understanding surface will make you a better bowler in theory. but you need to move. moving is the first thing you should try, not sanding or polishing or anything else.
His throw is not consistent. It's not his surface but I did learn some stuff. Worked most optimistic commentator. Saying everything other than he missed the shot.
Dear Mr. Hickland: so many people seem to have missed the point of this lesson. It's right there in the title of Cleaning vs. Wiping. All of these people who are taking cheap shots at you are probably 150 avg. bowlers on a good day. Speaking of cleaning and wiping, I'm sure you could clean their clocks and wipe the floor with any of them at the bowling alley.

I feel he wouldve done better if he tried a lower grit pad. Hes throwing with big angles so the ball needs to travel back more boards. I wouldve gone with 2000 grit
Ey, Ronald, where do we get that sandpaper you use in the video? I use the Abralon sandpaper and it feels like its done after three uses, and i need to buy another.
Yep and there is only one Pete Weber and none of us are are good as him. It doesn't take away from the fact that cleaning your ball will make your reaction more consistent.
@@tagramazlo that is flat out false as the ball will absorb oil on its own. The rate will vary and is a cause for variation. He is just good end of story. Jason Belmonte wipes his ball off every shot. So does 95% of the top players in the world.
Some guys wipe the oil, some guys dont. If you are a high rev, high speed bowler, wiping might help with maintaining a consistent reaction. However, wiping oil rings off a ball doesnt mean your ball will react more consistently. In fact...wiping oil off a ball when the lane is becoming dryer...could create an over reaction and going thru the nose.
If it's a USBC sanctioned league you can't do any altering of the ball. Wiping is allowed but that's it as far as I know. I always clean the balls I use when I'm done no matter how many times I throw them.
I just got my new bowling ball. I use a microfiber cloth to wipe. Should I use one to wipe and then another for the spray. I use Brunswick BIG cleaner and like microfiber cloths because they are inexpensive and easy to wash.
@@joanl5600 The goal is to keep your ball as clean as possible. Using two different towels will help for sure. The worse thing you can do is clean your ball then wipe the dirt back on it.
So I'm starting to understand this ik the sanding pads alter the surface but the polish will change the surface as well so u shouldn't use it to polish all of ur bowling balls
There is a lot to learn about bowling balls, and you never stop learning. I have been resurfacing bowling balls for 6 years now. Still i come up with New ways to do things. Try new things, check the result and write down what you did. Then you always have a referance system and when you did something great you can repeat it. Still more to learn about this, and the only way to learn is to keep trying. This is a component of being a great player most forget. Bowling is knowledge based and you never stop learning. This video isn't just about product. It goes much deeper than that. We are explaining what is happening and why. That is useful to the average person. We have plenty of videos that strike. Lol
