Sensor dirt can be stressful! I actually scored a great deal on a a7r from a friend that was afraid to clean it lol. Saved me about $500 and 5 mins got me in the Sony ecosystem

Martin! thats a big W right there. I've been using swabs 5 years now and never had an issue just have to take your time and be gentle! love your come up on that camera haha

@@ImJasonAnthony funny thing I was actually looking up pre moistened ones to keep in my camera case to save space (no bottle) just in case while on a shoot. I may test it out and make a video

Hi Jay, Thanks. I am also not clear on why you can't clean the FX6 sensor by the same method. Do you clean your FX6 sensor yourself or take it to the shop?

The FX6 sensor has an LPF in front of the sensor between the variable ND and sensor itself. I have spoken directly with the techs at the Sony Pro Support LA office and they said to bring it in for cleaning and to not perform it how normally I demoed!

whats the mystery sensor cover on the fx9/6 , they have an OLPF but so does the fx3, Ive cleaned my fx9 with swabs same as my fx3 . best to power on the fx3 for swab cleaning .

I’m just going by what my rep at Pro Support told me in LA. Because of the variable and the OLPF 🤷🏻‍♂️. I’ve been swabbing sensors for 6 years and thought the same to myself. Figured I’d share the info given in the event someone was to damage something I’d hate to be responsible.

I accidentally pressed my Sony FX3 image sensor and then used a microfiber to clean it… does it cause any damage to the image sensor? Should I just have the image sensor cleaned up or replace it with a new image sensor? What should I do? I’m so worried… 😢

Hey Jay, really hoping you or someone would reply here. Does your Fx3 sensor actually shake/vibrate when you press the sensor cleaning button? Or does it make these sort of electronic sound and not really shake at all? Stressing out over here if I broke my sensor. Would love if anyone could reply and give some insight.

It shakes and vibrates! I just posted a second or cleaning tutorial on my IG and there’s a clip in there of my a7IV vibrating the sensor just like my fx3 does @im_jasonanthony for reference

It does you just need the APSC sensor swabs instead of the full frame!

Hi Jay, very useful video but pin a comment mentioning the sensor needs to be on locked position when you use the swab. In FX3 firmware version 3.0 ... Setup > Setup Option > Sensor Cleaning > after the vibration is complete > use the rocket blower > then leave the camera on for the sensor to be in a locked postion while using the cleaning swab.

If your Sony model offers the locked position yes, the older gens like the a7iii require that and I have a video on that from a few years back. The new gen doesn't seem to have that feature unless I missed it in the manual and talking to a sony tech haha

exactly - you must perform Sensor Cleaning function before you touch anything inside. You may damage your IBIS otherwise. So you have to do Sensor Cleaning and then, with camera on, you clean the sensor with tools. Strange that this important point is missing in the video
