Here is the only effective way to remove tile scum buildup and calcium buildup from your pool tile.
You can by the Pumas stone in any pool store.
The Arrow Tile Soap Red should also be at your local store
The Hasa Gysar Tile Brite F may only be available for order at a pool store but it is available online. Gysar Tile Brite F was developed especially for the pool service professional. Gysar Tile Brite F is an excellent tile cleaner by itself but it can be mixed with muriatic acid to become a very effective way of removing oils and scale build up.
You can also use a wooden tile brush with Polypropylene bristles. I use the pole attachment for convenience out in the field.
You can find the pole attachment brush on Amazon.com: www.amazon.com/...
It's called a Purity Pool TSQC Tile Scrubber with Quick Connect. I order the more coarse pads: www.amazon.com/...

I haven't had a problem using the Pumas Stone, particularly this brand which is made of a very light material that is very brittle. As long as you keep the stone and area constantly wet you won't scratch the tile. There are some brands of stones that are too compacted that I wouldn't recommend using. If used correctly the results are good and the tile won't be scratched.

Depending on the stone type you could scratch the tile. The brand here is very good as it is a very light stone. I've tried different acid based products over the years - the results were okay. Hiring a Glass Bead company is another option if the calcium build up is severe. I've cleaner entire pools with Pumas stones. Very time consuming. It is easier when you can get in the pool and do it. Try the Pumas Stone on a small area to see if it is worth doing.

You can try HASA Super Stain Out. It works pretty well on rust stains.

Does the pumice stone scratch the pool tiles? Also what are your thoughts on using hydrochloric acid on the tile? Ive seen some videos about this. Thanks

Since your pool is drained you might want to consider hiring a local "Pool Tile Glass Beading" company. This will make the tile as good as new for around $300.00. The only other thing you could do is use several Pumas stones & dip them in water bucket as you work your way around the pool to keep the area wet. I have done this method and it is effective. The Gysar/acid mix might streak your plaster as it runs down the sides. Works best when pool is full of water. Hope that helps.

Hi I’m a new pool owner. Really like your videos, And it’s great that you offer a few different options / suggestions! My question would be: using all these products, Considering this acid and all other sorts of components to them. How safe is it to swim in the water after using it and is there anything that needs to be done to offset the stuff that goes with the pool water? Sorry if these are dumb questions but I’m new to all this. Thank you

The amount of acid is pretty minimal. I wouldn't worry about it really.

How do you clean calcium/scale off of flagstone. Will the pumice stone work?

David, I've used a pumice stone, as well as muriatic acid, to no avail. Our calcium buildup did not respond to either one. Could it be calcium salicylate?

Hi, My pool is currently drained and I'd like to clean the calcium off the tile. In this vid you use the gysar F and acid mixture while the pool is filled. Would it work to remove the calcium by brushing the paste mixture on the dry tile, letting it sit for a while so the acid can do the work, then brushing / rinsing it off? Thanks

Good info, David. Half my pool has bull-nosed Pebbletec over the bond beam. Over the years it has developed a white calcium ring too. Pumice stone and wire brushing has been ineffective in cleaning it. What do you use to eliminate and prevent Pebbletec calcium buildup?
@SPL
@SPL 8 лет назад
You might want to contact a local glass beader to power it off.

Hi - really appreciate your videos. Learning a ton. Question - If I were to use the Gysar + Acid mix - do I use the pumice stone around the entire pool first and then do the geyser thing weekly - or if I do the gysar cleaning - does it eliminate the need to use pumice stones?
@SPL
@SPL 2 года назад
You may be able to remove some build up with just the Gysar and acid mix. I would try that for a month or so first.

Will it work in rough cut tile that has a very thick layer of build up

Maybe try some 300 grit wet/dry sandpaper on that.

I used a pumice stone to remove calcium. Now my tile has kind of haze look. What do you use to polish / restore pool tile?
@SPL
@SPL 4 года назад
You may be able to buff it out with a car care product from your local autoparts store.

Hello - I have a grey plaster pool. Is it normal for it to have white spots specially around the shallow areas? If it's buildup can that be removed?

where did you get the pumice stone from? is there an online site that i can use?
@SPL
@SPL 11 лет назад
Hire someone to glass bead it off. That is your best bet. Maybe $200-$300 dollars. Flagstone is too hard for the pumas stone in my experience.

I have calcium line on the tile around my pool and can not get it off. I was wondering can this calcium be embedded on my pool surface? The pool looks clean and clear after i vacuum , after when I brush a cloud of fine silt comes up. Is that scale?

Good Day David. Like your Muratic Acid and Geyser method so ordered the Geyser which just arrived. Had a couple questions. -Is it safe for glass tile? -Do you worry about the strong acid base glazing or hazing the tile if you do not get it all off or if it leaves a slight film on the tile. Thanks, I really enjoy your videos, they are practicle and very informative. Mark

Mark F Should be fine on glass tile. I use it on my route on glass tile with no problems. I usually will scrub it all off using the pool water on the tile brush.

What leads to the build up of calcium
@SPL

Sometimes it is just the fill water being very hard or a pool with an out of balanced LSI

Thanks David, I found a product that’s supposed to help resist calcium build up, (Beau Tec Tile Cleaner). You just add to the pool every month to reduce staining and prevent additional staining and help your salt cell between cleanings. Have you heard of this product and would you recommend?
@SPL
@SPL 4 года назад
It works really well with scaling on the pool surface in the water. It may prevent some scale at the waterline also. I mainly use it for scale on the plaster surface itself.
