Using a knife is the way to go when dividing plans. It seems that all the roots have been ripped off of this plant. In my experience, you don't have to remove all the dirt and their roots. I would be surprised if that plant lives. Great buy and amazing price!
This was a few weeks back and they are all still living. You’re right I had intended on more roots on some of them but it still worked out. Thank you for watching.
So, saw no followup? Did they die, or thrive? I was hoping to find something to help me before I tear my plants apart but I don't know how this turned out
They lived last summer but ALL of my dianthus were killed in a late freeze this past spring, even the ones I’d had for years. In addition many of our crepe Myrtle trees were killed back buck luckily they all put out new growth.
Glad u made this video, this is a very real example of what even experts do in terms of splitting because they know that plants are very hardy and can take a lot of abuse if cared for rightly afterwards. I've done this many times to my plants, killed many in my beginner years, not because of the way I split them (exactly how u do it, and honestly sometimes I just rip it out completely because the original soil is like a brick), but because I didn't do any aftercare. Cutting off blooms, keeping them in the correct soil medium, keeping the soil watered, keeping them in full shade, no fertilizer until new growth was visible, only then did, all of them make it. Dare I say it the hard handing actually made the plant grow stronger roots because there wasn't much to begin with. Don't be afraid of killing your plants guys, they are much stronger then we give them credit for, and if they do die, it's because they were weak in the first place, or they didn't have the proper after care. Great video keep it up! Love from Malaysia ❤
Clearance Plants!!! Showed up after a storm to them filling a pickup for the garbage!😮 They let me take what I wanted as long as they had the tags for their records. Glorious day.
Actually they are all still living a few weeks later. I really thought the roots would have divided better which is why I only did the two. Thanks for watching.
I want to no if these plants made it hope u have a video on these blooming like crazy i buy all lowes discount plants thats the way to go but ive never split any ,i wish u luck😊
They did! Unfortunately I think the super freeze got not only these but my other dianthus this past winter. They are usually hardy for us but not this year. But yes they performed well after dividing last summer
I just bought a purple fountain grass at Walmart and that same dianthus (paid full price though). Just planted the grass today and I found that's easier to use a sharp knife to divide de plants! Wonderful video!
