William Czopek is a Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Agency, currently serving as Public Information Officer stationed in Arizona.
Formally established in 1973, the Drug Enforcement Agency is a relative newcomer to the list of federal law enforcement organizations, however, its roots trace back to the 1914 Harrison Narcotics Act. The biggest narcotics seizure in 1917 was 5.5 lbs. of opium. A recent pair of seizures confiscated sufficient methamphetamines to give a dose to every man, woman, and child in both the U.S. and Mexico.
Because the drug trade is an international problem, the DEA does not just operate domestically but has agents working all across the world. Over 72,000 Americans died from overdoses in 2019 and this year is on track to be worse with a 150 - 200% jump. The trail of bodies is not limited to overdose victims, The Mexican government estimates nearly 62,000 persons have “vanished” since 2006.

Williams’s brothers story is eerily similar to my own. My sophomore year I got into drinking and weed. My junior year I was taking molly, lsd and pills. By the time I hit my senior year I was a IV heroin user. High school athlete the entire time. Wasn’t a good wrestler but I placed at cif a couple times. I also came from a wealthy family. Looks can be deceiving and it can happen to anyone from any walk of life. I got sober in 2013 (luckily missed the fentanyl era) and for that I’m eternally grateful. I’m glad you guys are talking about this. Keep it up 👍🏼

Same here man. I graduated high school in 2009 and by the end of that summer I was a full blown roxy/oxy addict. Safe to say my first year of college didn’t turn out so well and I dropped out (sold all books and shit for cash at the start of the semester). Continued to use until I was about 21 and hit rock bottom. Been sober ever since. I’d be dead if fentanyl was around back then. No doubt. Glad you made it out buddy.

I so admire him speaking on hope. I am 7 years sober. Prescribed opiates after a medical miscarriage procedure and no mental health support after. I was immediately an addict. Almost lost my life. Went to a wonderful facility in VA (I'm from Louisiana) and did subutex mat (matience assisted therapy) therapy and heavy counseling. We now have a healthy family and a healthy 6 year old son. Healing starts with seeing there are more ways than cold turkey. Healing starts with addressing the mental side as they often go hand in hand. Healing starts wo shaming addicts for past behavior (they must take full accountability but don't have to always live in the shame) I am proof Healing is possible

Good conversation. Though I think the DEA should be a bit more open minded in their recruiting process from the sound of it. If you do something that’s fully legal, and do it responsibly it makes no sense to hold that against you. Or do they also turn away applicants that drink? Be it occasionally to heavily. I guess time will eventually move them forward too, but there are very strong arguments and case studies supporting a more free approach rather than policing people and creating an uncontrolled underground criminal network that has more reason to exist when substances are illegal rather than being quality controlled and legal. In my uneducated, unimportant, and personal opinion :)

That violence shows up occasionally. Back in 2013-ish, in my old neighborhood on Staten Island (NYC) there was a Mexican cartel murder in a spot frequented by day laborers for high visibility. By morning, a guy's body was found tied splayed out, to the chainlink fence of a junior high school playground, completely gutted with his entrails all over the floor. Sending a message to the community about whatever related drug drama. It definitely shook the Central American community in our area even though the story was glazed over by the newspapers.

Legalize drugs so quality can be assured. Put the taxes into drug awareness and rehabilitation. People who want to get fucked up are going to get fucked up. Period. Let’s teach our kids from a young age real information about drugs to dissuade them. Not the scare tactic psa’s we have used in the past. The war on drugs failed.. Drugs are not going away.. The only reason they have become so dangerous is because we allow the black market to profit.

Nothing like job security. Provides zero unique or new ideas about fighting addiction. Lets just continue to repeat the same steps we've been doing since day one. They can't arrest their way out of this problem. The drug war is a major leading factor to all these drug deaths. And what does mr dea recommend? Dare 2.0 😂😂😂😂
@MrSnicker14
@MrSnicker14 3 года назад
It seems like most of the problems associated with drugs are less about the drug and more to do with it being illegal and obtained from illicit sources. If people were obtaining pharmaceutical grade pain killers from a legit business instead of fentanyl from a dealer they wouldn't be over dosing because they would know how much of what they are taking. If drugs were obtained from legitimate sources and priced affordably drug addicts would pose much less of a problem for society. Compare the problems with alcohol today to the problems during prohibition.

Man..did you ever try the og OC 80s??? my god those fuckers hooked me INSTANTLY. I had never felt more confident and euphoric in my life. Just an unreal feeling. My main connection had both parents on Oxys. The mother had stage 4 cancer and got 80s, the father got 60s for his back after getting nearly crushed at a job site. I made a deal with him every month, cash up front to help pay the pharmacy bill because they didn’t have coverage for them. Well, the mom died after 6 months and the father got transitioned to methadone and then Percocet after that. I had a tolerance that meant hundreds a day if I bought off the street, so I went with the cheaper option with Heroin. Been sober for 6 years now. Spent my entire 20s in and out of rehabs and detoxes. 5 ods and 3 arrests but I eventually I got to the end of myself. Congrats on being off that shit. That’s awesome man.

The question I have is does all the money it takes to fund the DEA like he said all over the world even stop it one bit. Does it do any good to lock all these drug criminals up for selling something somebody wants I can see a fine and pay taxes on the money they made. The saddest part of the whole podcast is when he talks about kicking in doors like they think they are delta force I mean if you were to ask any CAG guy how they would deal with those situations they would say call them up and say we have charges that you sold drugs this is your court date 95% are gonna show then the DEA could get their delta force on the 5% who dont. This guy is to personally involved and it sucks his brother died but is it the drug dealers fault or the person who did the drugs I think when we add up the costs and benifits this whole organization should be shut down in country focus on the root in the countries its made in I can see that but this war on drugs is a lost cause waste of time and resources does not stop it one bit does anyone have a problem getting anything they want anytime anywhere
