I’m usually not one for emotional stories but I could not stop watching this…what an amazing woman to have strength like this…this podcast continues to get better and better
Mom of sons, a niece, and nephew all deployed at the same time and I'm crying for you mom and wife..😭 🙏 💜 Your strength, courage, and grace are inspiring. Sending Many Blessings for you, the boys, and your family.
Half way through this, it finally clicked. That video was probably the hardest thing I've watched. I can't imagine what Mrs Black went and continues to to through. Thank you Andy & Mrs Black for sharing this heartbreaking story.
Whew this was a serious misty eye fest. with two small kids myself, I can't imagine what she was going through. Strong woman, and those kiddos are lucky to have her as a momma.
This was another amazing podcast and the fact Andy said he hopes to find himself in a room with the man that watermarked and released the video was awesome get mike glover and a few others for a amazing wall to wall counseling
I watched Mrs Black's appearance on Mike Ritland's podcast just days ago, and it was incredibly moving as well as informative. Kudos to Andy for having her on as well.
The video had me shaking. It’s visceral and real- it’s what most of us GWOT vets have experienced. Wherever this guy is, bless his soul. Til Valhalla, brother. I’ll meet you there.
Holly shit Andy. You have always been an excellent interviewer, but you excelled at this one. A perfect mixture of compassion and humor. This one pulls at the heart strings. I cannot fathom what this brave woman has been through. I hope one day, the absolute truth will come out, and at least she can have some closure. I would definitely like to see Andy and maybe Mike Glover accompany her when she decides to approach the military and ask the tough questions. I can't think of many other more qualified subject matter experts than these two. Hand Salute Michelle. Your husband is the definition of a hero. Semper Fi.
Just started but looking fwd to this listen. Bought her book after her Mike Drop episode and I'm glad I did. Incredibly badass woman doing her incredibly badass husband's story justice.
My husband was in the military, not in SF. He had a hard time trying to discipline our boys after being away for 6-8 months. I had to talk to him and explained that he couldn't be away for a long time and come home and try to exert his role as a dad. He stays home for 6 months and then is gone for 6 months deployment. Sometimes, my husband would be gone for 12 months (hardship tour). I am very independent. I also have a job working in a bank, so the long separation did not bother me as much. Plus, raising 2 boys was wild, lol. So, I was a homemaker and a Red Cross volunteer, plus I work in a bank. I loved my life as a military. I basically grew up in a military base. Missed the closeness that I felt and had. Civilian life is totally different, big culture shock for me, and then entered a Church of God ministry, which is a different lifestyle in itself. But I was unfortunate that both husbands were not able to stay faithful in the marriage, which caused the divorce from the first one and separation from the second one, and I now live here in Texas.
Man….this was a great podcast. A tear jerker for sure. I also was unaware of this situation and viewed the footage of this event (raw). It’s footage that does not need to be online, that’s all I will say about that. Thank you Andy for having Michelle on and letting this story be told.
Damn… what a story. I was an Army Brat and have been wanting to hear from a Dependent for a little while. Michelle Black: May the Lord continue to grant you with the powerful spirit you have to tell your story and to continue to embolden you to do so… sorry don’t get to religious but needed to get that out
Im so sorry for you and your familys loss. Im so grateful for your husband and all the men that have fallen in battle for this great country and my freedom
I had the exact same thought and was completely filled with raw emotion during that part of the podcast. Thanks to andy for having this guest on to tell her story.
I have always enjoyed Andy’s interviews. The quality and professionalism.. with his own personality added to the mix… has grown exponentially in the last few months. Each podcast gets better and better
The part where you both spoke about the video being released made me physically angry, national media/social media have lost any sense of humanity and moral responsibility.
Wow, such an amazing podcast, but certainly not the one to listen to while putting on makeup in the morning. With as great as this episode is, this one was tough for me to get through. Thanks so much for sharing it.
Agree with other comments - that was a great podcast. What a brave and awesome lady Michelle Black is. Amazing effort to uncover the truth. It is so sad and fascinating how quickly organizations with get to "the bottom" of a problem. Yet almost no organization works to get to "the top" of the problem. And that is almost always where the problem lies. Root cause analysis in many cases is simply another euphemism for getting to the bottom. It is no wonder that Jocko and Echelon Front have such a thriving business around extreme owners and true leaders taking responsibility. Way to go Andy, you are getting so good at these.
The section regarding chess, military, and intelligence reminded me of working at the VA years after serving in the military and constantly being told by non-Veteran managers that servicemembers had the education and intelligence levels of a 9th grader at best.
I remember coming across the video with music edited over by just spending time on youtube. I have also seen the same video with the actual audio including the screams etc. There was another video I saw which was taken later on after they all probably have died. It shows the dead bodies up close and then the group of terrorists talking with the bikes in the background. I was furious so i cannot begin to imagine what it must feel like for her and the family of those who lost someone that day. Not easy to watch at all.
Sincere respect to Michelle and her family for being strong. Sad this video was out in open for her kids look upon . This whole story by the military was a sham and those responsible should have been given an article 15 and removed from military. Families of those fallen should never be lied to.
1:00:38 "And when you don't do that... there's a reason that your book is sitting between us" Andy that was messed up lol. I know you're not coming from a bad place, but man that didn't have to be said like that 😂😂.
Agreed! That would be so awesome to watch! And Mark Divine,John Devine,Dom Raso,Wes Moore,Randy Couture(who I think some people don't know is also a veteran),Nate Fick and Rudy Reyes would make for great guests on the podcast.
As a former army wife, I can tell you that Ms. Black is not alone regarding resistance from the military about the specifics of her husband's death. Prior to 9-11, we knew several widows that had the same experience when wanting more info regarding how their spouse died! And WTF about Trump being an asshole to a woman whose hubby died in combat?! I swear, Trump has the worst impulse control!
Could you interview some buds drop outs or some of these leaders that make purely selfish decisions for their careers?I'm sure there some sick stories out there
The military like a lot of organizations incentivize C.Y.A. (cover your ass) thinking. Not sure how that changes. People are people the same everywhere
