Don't forget, a pool is just a big hot tub when it comes to the chemicals, unless you get a salt pool. For a hot tub and pool, once the chemicals are established, it's so much easier to maintain. Yes, tubs are loud, but with yours in such an enclosed space, it's even louder because the noise is bouncing off the house, the garage, and the fence. If you don't know, a salt pool is a pool that uses salt instead of chemicals, so it's like you're swimming in the ocean. It's cheaper, and MUCH better for the environment, plus it's better for your skin and hair. Good luck with your house hunting, but give your little tub a bit, you just learn to like it.

I’m actually planning to have a natural bio filter pool so there won’t be any chemicals or salt that produces it’s own chlorine. It’ll be completely safe to drink and for wild life too.

Hey Jodie ! This was a great video. You are such a hard worker, I have so much respect and admiration for you. I had a hot tub once and had it in a fully enclosed front porch and had the thermal cover. I believe it makes it easier to keep the chemicals at their proper levels and keep all the muck from getting into the hot tub. Congratulations on a job well done. Hope that you are able to get to the point that you are able to enjoy it more. Keep up the good work. Wishing you, Key and your mom much peace and happiness from across the pond here in Indiana, USA. I built one myself back in 1986 in my backyard here, I dug the hole in heavy clay loam rock hard soil in summer, and made it out of cement, in a kidney shape it holds 4500 litres of water and 14 people comfortably. I made up a HWS of a heavy walled 44 gallon drum on its side on a couple of walls with a fire under it And also put a 100 metres of 1 1/4inch black poly pipe on the roof heating it with the sun It would get to over 40+ if you let it. At the start I lived alone it would take a good six + hours to heat up, I would sit most times in it on my own for about 20 minutes and get bored. When friends came for a soak Guess who did all the work, they would enjoy it and then you have to clean everything up and maintain it till you used it next... I got married 4 years later and my now ex wife enjoyed it for a while till the novelty wore off, I can honestly say it looks good as a fish pond with iris, taro, water chestnuts and gold fish in it and needs practically no attention. Even if you might have had regrets during that time you were trying to lay down the wooden deck pieces it WAS an excellent thing that you took all the time to clear the area and flatten the ground down as much as possible. I am sure the concrete layers had an easier time doing their job because most of the work was already done. Also, I loved the music mix, it went well as a background to go with what you were working on. Hmm, maybe if you had a sheet metal roof over the pool that would be amazing; especially while it's raining. I know it's a lot of different thoughts, but yeah.

@@jodie_boo here are some pro's and con's of having a hot tub. 1- they are nice in the cold months, but i always drained mine in the summer to save on power and chemicals, it's just to hot to use most days. 2- it takes a while to get the hang of the chemicals, but once you do it's not so bad. 3- to reduce the amount of chems needed you should shower before getting in, to wash off the dirt, oils, and makeup so it doesn't turn into dirty people soup and start to smell. it will also help the filters last longer between cleanings. when i had my tub i showered 3 times a day, once in the morning to wake up and start my day, then before i got in the tub, and also after because i didn't like going to bed with the chemical smell on me. MAKE your friends shower too. 4- there is a huge difference between the little portable unit you have and a hard tub. there are things you can get on the hard tub to make it be almost chemical free. the real hot tubs also push water through the jets to massage you versus the cold air that cools the water down so fast. they are also more comfortable to sit in because of the built-in chairs versus sitting on the floor like yours in a one position only option. 5- don't get a really big one. once the novelty wears off and friends stop coming over all the time to sit with you in it, you will be using it mostly by yourself or maybe one other person. so go with a smaller size unless you have the house everyone always comes to. 6- build a deck area around the tub to help control dirt coming in with people's feet. keep a little broom handy to keep it as clean as you can. it is also really handy to have some shelving areas around most of the tub for people to put drinks on or other stuff. just make sure they are sturdy enough to hold some weight so when someone pops up out of the tub to sit on the edge and cool down a little it doesn't go crashing to the ground. unless you have the camera going that is, that could be funny. 7- they make a little hand pump underwater vacuum to suck up any dirt that does get in the tub. i always felt around when i got in mine to see if there was any dirt/grit anywhere, then sucked it up before i sat down and started the jets. 8- they can be nice to have, but they do require time and money for chemicals, power and new filters from time to time. by having this little one it may let you know how much you like hot tubs or not, but at the same time, it is a little bit of an apple to oranges comparison between a cheap tub and a nice hard sided one. go to a store that just sells hot tubs and talk to them and see the different options. good luck.

Jodie watching you do stuff like this is empowering. It's such an amazing example to women right now that you can do all of these things and not need help. It's inspiring to see how independent you are.

We had a hot tub for years. It was a hard hot tub. I loved it. It helped my fibromyalgia. We had to get rid of it when it went out. I would love to have another one. It held 400 gallons of water. You are so talented. Is there anything you can’t do lol. I love that you dive into what ever you want,

Jodie you are very brave and did a great job. I would suggest before the roof/ awning and fairy lights have someone come out and power wash the brick wall patio and walkway to the house and you will far less debris following you to and from the house. It is amazing how much debris on the bricks and patio attach to skin cells. A power wash every year or so will amaze you. I was raised by a single mother and you remind me of her so much with all your talents. Give Key a hug for me I watch daily even reruns. Congratulations on the tub, it will get easier, except the gulls and the noise.

In addition to it being a good experiment to determine if you wanted a hard-sided hot tub, it also was a great exercise in self reliance which I totally applaud!

Hi Jodi, thank you so much an objective review of hot tub ownership. It's nice to have to occasionally enjoy, but a pain to have otherwise, like a pool, boat, RV, etc. Love your channel, and love Key. He's the best and you are too.😃Cheers!

Jodie, you're giving the queen a run for her money. ;.) Being across the pond here in Indiana, your video reminds me of my childhood home south of Quincy (middle of nowhere, South-East of Cloverdale, Indiana) where my family had an in-ground pool that we'd spend a week or two taking the winter covers off of to then be cleaned, etc. for the warm season. Basically, the process boiled down to taking the winter cover off (which was just a big tarp you used to keep things out of the pool during winter) and once that's been taken off, you then dip out whatever debris that found a way into the water despite it, then you shock the water (we used tennis ball-sized tablets) followed by pouring proper amounts of chlorine in to let it sit and acclimate. The next week or two (or more) could consist of checking it about 2 or 3 times per-day, dipping leaves out, checking chlorine levels, etc., etc., etc. Like I said, it's a process and definitely part of the downsides of having a pool. But later enjoying it made it worth the hassle. Anyway, your video reminded me of one special year when my older brother and my step father were outside doing this for the first time after winter. I was inside our house playing some game on the computer we had in our family room--this was when I was still a boy, maybe around 11 years-old or so--and after they had been out by the pool doing all this, I heard my brother running up our porch steps to rush inside to get me. "Dude, you have to come out here and look at something. You won't believe it," he said. "What is it?" "Just come out here!" So I slip on some flip-flops and follow him down to the poolside where he goes back to where my step dad was still netting leaves out. Once I get out to the pool area, my brother points to an adult-sized scuba mask that was opposite the gate that I just walked in through. (The pool area was pretty big. I'd say the pool itself was probably about 20 feet across and about, maybe, 40-50 feet in length. They were on the furthest end messing with nets and chlorine, and other things when I came out.) "In the mask," my brother said, pointing to the opposite side of where I was standing and even before I walked over to it about 20 feet away, I could see it: the biggest goddamn spider I have ever seen in Indiana. But when I walked up to the mask, it was almost impossible to realize that what I was seeing was an actual spider. It was so freakishly big that it almost looked fake. It was like one of those moments that you want to be more visceral or something but because of what you're looking at, you have a hard time reconciling it because it just doesn't seem possible. In short, I couldn't believe it and still have problems believing it today at the age of 39. The spider--it appeared to be one of our run-of-the-mill brown woods spiders--was bigger than the mask as it was doing the standard "I'm a dead spider and so I'm going to bend my legs into my body," thing but when you spread the legs out to their fullest length, it was as big as a damn dinner plate. Now, our home was right in front of 100+ acres of woods (which was behind our pool) but in front of our house, was about 100 acres of corn field. Our grandfather owned a lot of the land--he was a farmer--so I've seen just about every critter you can imagine, many of which somehow found ways into our pool that we had back then. From crawdads and snakes to snapping turtles and even an occasional mouse. I mean, in the remote country areas over here in Indiana, you can wind up with almost anything in your pool from time-to-time, to say nothing about big old barns full of hay. But I've never seen a spider that big. It even put some of the tarantulas we have in our Indianapolis Zoo to shame and has since remained something that always makes me second-guess pleasant walks in wooded areas. It was terrifying. Anyhoo, have fun in your new hot tub! Ha.

Wow, a lot of work was required for it, but you did really well to manage it all! An awning might be the best thing for a cover, to stop the gulls from doing their naughties where you don't want them to! Also, rather than a vacuum you could try a netting instead, thus scooping up the bits as required? (A pool skimming net with telescoping extendable handle, as seen in B&Q or similar?) Also you could reuse the bottom of the decking bits for standing on, they might work for that, thus keeping feet off the grit/crumbs. Plus - a watering can, then you can clean any dirt or grit off before getting into the tub? Just some thoughts. Good luck with the house hunting, by the way.
