One of the great joys of springtime for me is in the harvesting of tasty and highly nutritious wild foods. Cleavers are super tasty and packed with insane amounts of vitamin C, and the best way to enjoy their fresh mange tout pea-like taste is to make them into a pesto and serve them with pasta. Delicious! 😋
Also featured in this video is Jack o' the Hedge or mustard garlic, a super tasty hedgerow plant of the cabbage family.
Caveat: Always make positive identification of wild plants and fungi using an authoritative source. If in doubt, leave it out!

It's lucky that cleavers have no plants that resemble them Reshmi, the plants that we had fun with sticking to our clothing as children turned out to be a valuable and delicious wild food! Love to you all 🥰

Thanks my friends. Unfortunately for you, many of these wild foods are not found in the tropics. Then again I think of mud crabs and all the great wild food in Trinidad! I remember scrumping wild cashew nut fruit and wild Caribbean cherries. Yum yum!

Seeing cleavar leaves for the first time. I always get to learn something new from your videos. Great way to substitute walnuts instead of Pinenuts.Peso sauce sauce texture seems so good.

I prefer to use walnuts Ritu, they cost less than pine nuts and have a great texture. I also prefer a coarse blend of pesto because I enjoy the nutty texture 😋

Pete, please do an edible mushrooms video.

I will certainly do a video if I come across wild edible mushrooms in my forays. There are few available at this time of year, but I will keep my eyes peeled for St George's mushrooms.

Foraging can be dangerous if we don't know what we're doing.... Everything looks so similar even with the books
