it was magickal to see Jeff imitate his dad. maybe Jeffs chicks picked up on it too. their shared time together was shorter, but it would be amazing if Mr. Kes' legacy continued on
Love watching all these birds I’m sorry Jeff is gone but Jennie is a great mom. I could sit and watch long story’s of all the birds and animals you film.
Hi, Robert! Amazing video, this couple will never be forgotten!! Great tribute for unforgettable Jeff!!👏 I miss him very much!!😔 Thank you for your magnificent support, during that so hard moment of loss!!! 👍🙏🙏😊🤗😃
Beautiful video. Robert. Thanks so much. I'm sorry for the loss of Jeff. Jenny did a great job of taking care of her brood and I love listening to the Kestrel chatter.
Yes 🙌 Jeff was amazing and it was a pleasure to share his short life with you all 🤩 We all will miss him so much,he was my favourite of the brood and I’m sure the favourite of many of the followers of kestrel’s stories here at Fotherdale Hopefully there will be a match out there for Jenny for the 2024 breeding season 🤞
Gone but not forgotten. It would have been fascinating to see how far the learned behaviour of the fathers could be passed on, what with Mr Kes inadvertently teaching his son how to brood and feed chicks. Still, 3 healthy chicks is a fine legacy. Well done to Jeff and especially you and Jenny.
Fantastic video and story Robert, hats off to Jenny, what a super mum! I enjoy all your videos. What you do is amazing absolutely amazing the way you help wildlife and share it with us. Nature is incredible 😊
tyvm REF ... i am grateful you helped Jenny provide for her 3 young kestrels and this lovely success story is largely because of your help! .... God bless you and Jeff & Jenny's family ❤ ...
So sad about Jeff for many reasons, not least because he seemed to have learnt some unique skills from his own upbringing with his dad, Mr. Ken. I wonder if his early brooding and chick feeding skills will get passed onto this next generation. Twould be sad if this extra resilience were lost....
I know how much Jeff meant to you. I'm so sorry for your loss. Mother nature is rough and always teaching us. Happy you had your time with him ❤ I rescued a crow that fell from my palm last year and mom hung around as I fed him and kept him safe until he could fly... He ended up disappearing as well and so I know the feeling. 😢. Little part of Jeff in those babies though😊thank you for all you do!
Robert this was a wonderful story of love and caring- along with danger and disappointment. But the survival of the chicks and the wonderfully successful Jenny just warms the heart. Thanks so much for sharing these adventures with us. I’m widowed and homebound from severe health issues from a long bout with Covid. You help lift me up with your channel since I am unable to get outside. God Bless You. Lynn in Naples FL 💞
Robert, I know you don’t know for sure what happened to Jeff, but as a person who knows Kestrels’ well, what is your best guess? I absolutely love your work and appreciate the fact you document the Kestrels’lives and development. Thank you.
I think he was predated by a Red kite or a common buzzard I have been studying kestrel’s for decades and have seen a dramatic drop in there numbers Especially where larger bird of prey have increased, 40 years ago there wasn’t buzzards and Red kites around here and there were loads of kestrel Around where I live there used to be 5 pairs of kestrels now they’re is one or two pairs in the same area and Buzzards and kites are numerous I have seen both species attack kestrels and barn owls
Are Kestrels on an endangered list? Does the British Wildlife Service rehome bird’s Would there ever be a time when buzzards would be moved to another location?
@@brigidconroy2111That would be fantastic to see them put on the endangered species list …..quickly. They’re hatching new kestrels, but if there’s only 6-7 per season, combined with early losses, they’ll need help if they will catch up with increasing their numbers. 🙏🏻🤞🏻🫶🏼
@@brigidconroy2111I‘m thinking that buzzards and kites would be just as natural to the landscape as kestrels. It could be that the high number of kestrels before the return of larger bird of prey was unnatural and that really the area wouldn‘t typically support more than the current number, if all the birds of prey were present. Just like foxes wouldn‘t exist in the numbers that they do, if wolves were present in their natural numbers. As lager species disappeared, some of the smaller ones had an opportunity to outgrow their niche. But with the restoration of the larger species, they might be put back…
@@alexk7973 Mother Nature is a bit of a dirty bird for a species to thrive another must die I have always thought of buzzards as carrion birds rather than hunters but gross as that thought is that can be a necessity
You are so kind hearted Mr. Robert E Fuller. I really appreciate your generosity and love for bird ❤. May God bless you with great Success in every step of your life 😇.
Is there anything cooler than watching a couple of generational stories of kestrels where you can see learned behavior!?! You have been one of my favorite channels for a while now. You help the wild do wild things. It's the best kind of intervention and observation.
It'll be interesting to see who's the lucky one for Jenny in 2024. But Jeff & Mr. Kes broke the image of only females providing for the chicks. It was also interesting to observe Jeff's journey from a young lad to an helpful mate & father even though it was for short span.
My heart breaks for Jeff and for you, who gets so attached to those in your care. Thank you again for the video. It is heartwarming to see Jeff's and Jenny's babies grow up well.
I do so adore you Robert!! Take care of yourself PLEASE!! 😊🌹Why weren't these little sweetlings ringed.. I was wondering🌸 Was our favorite Jeanne busy??❤ ❤❤❤
I've been having this sort-of fantasy lately: Wouldn't it be cool if one of Jeff's brothers (presuming there were other males in that brood of Mr & Mrs Kes) decided to venture back to Fotherdale and then hooked up with Jenny?
I love your narration of the stories of the birds it really brings their stories to life. It is heartbreaking when we loose them 💔 😢 but because of your dedication to the birds and the videos you capture of them we can follow the journey of the birds as the pair up mate and have babies. So fantastic to watch on. Really appreciate all you do for all the animals around you Robert ❤️

Fantastic footage, incredible information....I feel for your loss of Jeff and admire your dedication. I hope to join you wone day in retirement in housing young tawny families in my 300yr old oak in the woodland that forms the bottom of my garden. Keep up your fantastic informative work please. Brilliant- both you and the footage 🙂
Im so sorry for her loss of jeff he was a hard working dad and you did a brilliant job helping jenny out with her keslets im so glad that she had help from you and you are a kestral hero and life saver thank you Robert and kestrels are my favourite woodland bird of prey Sending love to Jenny ❤️😥🥰🦅
So beautiful to watch the whole show, I have been wondering how do the parent birds clear out their babies’ poos, do they swallow it like some other smaller birds? Thanks ❤
Happy New Year,Mr Fuller! Your videos are so amazingly beautiful and educational . In this crazy world you’ve managed to create such a beautiful oasis for everyone to enjoy. Wishing you all the best! George A Toronto,Ontario,Canada
Robert, I am amazed you are so dedicated to watching and documenting birds, whether Tawney Owls or these Kestrels. As a Biologist by education and avid wildlife enthusiast - I wonder if you have ever considered maRking the eggs so you can later tell them apart (A dot with a marker for #1, two dots for #2, etc.) If they don't hatch, you will video proof of the date and even hour they hatched. Same goes for marking the chicks after hatching. Marking the chicks will let you keep track of each chicks life, from egg to adulthood (since you tagged them, too). And visual mark will allow you to tell them apart on camera. Lastly, What about tagging the adults with radio beacon tags so you can keep track when they fly away or to help find their bodies when they have been predated on? Radio tags are getting smaller every year and less obtrusive to the birds.
Really enjoy your video's and especially now since we have a pair of Kestrels in our area. I live near the central coast of Washington state USA and this pair are enduring cold wet weather as they search for food. I hope they dont leave, they are special.
Robert you are such a beautiful person...in Florida and Spain yesterday owl died from starvation. 2 or 3 days the baby's from 3 and 4 weeks they had no food at all I talked about you to give them some food because they survive by you They talked only that it is against nature. I became so angry there....the baby's all died. This feeding from you I love ❤️ 😍 ❤❤
Honestly, what's going on with the kestrels in that area? Is it normal for so many to go missing in so few years? Mrs. Kes, then Mr. Kes, now Jeff. So sad :(
Ohhh noooo 😢😢😢 Jeff I’m really upset, after watching all of your story with Jeff, so so sad 😢 he was such a lovely kestrel absolutely adorable, god knows how you must feel Mr Fuller. Is there anyway you can include a tracker in the ring placed on thier legs, in case they are laying injured somewhere and can be helped back to health, it’s just so final and deeply sad not to even know what’s happened, I’m sure some lives could be saved with a tracker on the ring, Jeff was so special with all that he did which was not normal for Kestrel’s to do. I really feel it for you and for Jeff and poor Jenny, it was heartbreaking watching her waiting for him to return. Old owl 🦉 Alaya Norfolk
It must be a great feeling as a conservationist to see an adult animal living their best wild life from a chick you held and helped to survive. He had his chance to pass on his genetic line, so even with a short life he made an impact. These in depth chronicles are made possable from your close observation and attention to detail. Some of which worthy to be among other bodies of ornithological research.
Hi first time commenter, does anyone know why these kestrel chicks weren’t banded as I have seen many others? Love this channel by the way. Thank you Mr. Fuller
