For practice, I quite often switch between these tunings using a barrè. It's a good way to get used to some alternative chord voices when switching back to the guitar.
That’s awesome. I have a tenor and baratone ukulele and often transport both to play with friends. I’m now getting a capo and will only take one now. Very helpful video. Thank you
been trying to figure out if I should get a bari uke or another acoustic g-tar. The current g-tar is playable but action is high and needs a neck reset. Bari uke might be a nice change of pace... Thanks!
Have you tried a high D instead of the low D? I think that the baritone sounds a lot better with a high D. I guess that is just a choice. Thanks for the tip 🙂👍🏼
Or, you could change the strings to a GCEA set and have a full 20 fret Jumbo Tenor... Aquila and at least 1 other manufacturer have suitable sets. You can even do a low G Jumbo Tenor by changing out the high G. I did it to a $75 baritone using the Aquila string set and a squeakless coated low G. The low G is very nice... It is more than passable even if still a $75 uke that is a bit boxy sounding. Since changing the strings over, it has also completed transformed my poor chord changes and finger mangling - There is just less cramped space! Am to G - nailed it!
I have a baritone and absolutely love it! Soprano and concert and, actually tenor, are too small for my cauliflower hands plus my disability makes the smaller ones a little more challenging! Yes, it's also a little easier as I play guitar too. However, whilst I know the blues aren't a genre you usually play or perform in, I would appreciate a lesson on blues shuffle?
Richard from Cornwall I got one recently and I don’t really like it. I don’t know if I’m unhappy with the new strings (D’darios) or if it’s just not a very good instrument. The one I got is a no-name brand that my neighbor found at a garage sale.
Baritone tuning and tenor, concert or soprano tuning have the same chord shape. C chord of soprano or tenor is G chord for baritone, D chord of soprano and tenor is A chord for baritone, A chord is E chord and so on. If you dont want to capo just transpose the chord. Its all the same. Guitar or ukulele they have the same chord shape just four notes apart. Anyway the capo will make the baritone sound like a tenor or a soprano. Btw very informative video for us beginners. Thanks and God Bless.
Hi, Simon. I have a concert ukulele. I also have a classical acoustic guitar, which uses nylon strings. Have you put regular guitar nylon strings on a baritone, but the ones normally used on the smaller ukuleles (GCEA)? Would it give it just a tad deeper sound than the smaller ukuleles? Has anyone else out there put the GCEA nylon strings of a regular guitar on a baritone? I like the size of a baritone and flexibility of swapping the strings.... Hey, thank you Simon, for helping many new to ukuleles. I don't know anything about the baritone uke. So, thank you. I'm debating about getting one.....It just seems like a baritone has more flexibility with more possibilities, within the ukulele family.
SAVAREZ Blue Classical Guitar Strings, High Tension.!! ... the bottom 4 strings can be Tuned to GCEA, on your Bari, Uke.!! ... SO with Simons Clever Tricks, We all have Options to play with.!!
I've just switched to a Baritone Ukulele. With my small chubby hands I'm struggling with the notorious F chord. Is there any alternative fingering or 'cheat' position. Cheers Bob
Play parallel chords, i.e., similar position major chords like G, Ab, A, Bb, and come down to the Gb then the F -- like Bb, A, Ab, G, Gb, F, Gb, F, G, A, Bb. Strum with or without metronome or foot tap, work on strumming and just go into the F once in a while until it becomes comfortable.
easy fix.!! ...Aquilla new nylgut Baritone strings, tuned to DGBE, THEN retune to GCEA, slowly & carefully,!! U now can play the Chord Shapes u have used on, Suprano, Concert & Tenor.!! I Luv it,!!
