I can see what you mean. I demoed step ons on a resort where Burton happened to be and I kept feeling and hearing a clicking noise that worried me. While I never slipped out of them, I definitely held back because of that fear. Also with the Clews I like that the release is on the high back, not on the base.

Hey there, yea I've had the same issue. I found that by adding pressure on the back of the binding toward the board by stepping on the heel side, kind of like you were heel side carving and then pulling on the handle at the same time helps. I still have the issue though but problem only 1-2 out of 10 times. So push with your heel, pull with your hand, then step out quickly. This caused me some issues with balance at first and I slipped and fell a lot. As I got used to it though, I started to be able to balance better and dismount.

I think there is a difference between the current model and model I have. The niche is the whole step in/out thing but I’ve experienced issues with that sometimes as well. I replaced my union strata with these and tbh I liked the Strata better feeling underfoot and response. Like you I feel that $500 for these were a stretch (that’s before tax). I own them now, so I’ll ride them, but I even stated in the video that I felt like I wouldn’t buy them again. I wish they would sponsor me and I could try out the newer models and see if they have improved. But that’s risky for them bc I will be honest about how I feel and what my opinion is. Convenience when they work is nice, when it works though. I haven’t felt uncomfortable with them and my straps are adjustable though the high back isn’t tool less adjustable. Response on mine is stiff but offer some flex but not as much as I would like, I think it’s because of the extra material needed to accommodate the release mechanism. Impact absorption does feel rougher (but that also could be my age as well lol). Unless you truly needed that convenience of the step in/out I feel that other bindings are a definite better value for dollar and performance. I purchased these though because when the burton style step ons were coming out, I demoed them and felt and heard an uncomfortable clicking sound that made me afraid that the binding would disconnect under me (although it never happened), it was unnerving. Hey there, I feel like I ride all mountain with some very light freestyle. My board is set up as such. I have a Bataleon Goliath Beyond Medals with the Clew bindings. I also incorporate some very light freestyle/park action as well. I have taken this setup to pow, blown, hard icy, and even slushy conditions. When connected properly I feel that they are definitely secure but it did take me time to trust the bindings. I have ridden this setup through moguls and ride these through advanced slopes. They flex well underfoot and the only issue I've ever experienced is when Ice/compacted snow or some other obstruction has prevented me from stepping the binding into place. If you can tell from the video my stance is an equal cant on both the rear and front bindings even though my stance is regular, the board is a directional twin and I ride both regular and goofy alot. I've owned these for a year and have ridden them hard. They should be good for all types of riding though maybe not ideal for park setups. Thanks for the comment!

Yes, like regular toe straps as long as you don't touch them they stay where set. You step back into them by pointing your toe and scooping the toe of the boot into them, then stomping the highback/heel into place. If you want you can also release yourself normally by releasing the straps at the toe and top of the boot as well. Hope this helped!

I have Union bindings as well and replaced them with the Clew. I would say that the Clews feel pretty much the same for me. Though tbh, I don’t do a whole lot of jumps or parks features though. I’m getting older and it was just harder on the bones from age. Regardless if I was using the clews or the union. I think the only difference I can really feel from the two is that I felt the union bindings were more responsive underfoot, so I do miss that.

I can see where you're coming from. I found that you have to ensure that when detaching from the board using the quick pull handle that you have to make sure you have sure footing. When stepping back in, make sure you ensure that channel is free from ice or compacted snow. Loose snow shouldn't be an issue. I found that stomping into them helps to ensure it seats better. Also if you avoid heel edging it also helps prevent buildup on the back of the binding. I chose these because I looked at reviews of these versus the burton Step on bindings and the click issue of the burtons where they would emit a clicking noise when stressed kind of was uncomfortable for me. These feel secure on my board when it is properly seated, and when you aren't you can feel it. Generally, I can come to a stop release the binding, clear the obstruction from the area, then get back underway in pretty quick fashion.

gotcha@@watschadoin thank you so much.. just mounted my CLEW at my snowboard, everything looks good but the only weirdo thing are the screws. for my back foot (I'm regular) I waste almost 1h to setup my board for any reason the screw didn't work.. I just need to use my salomon screws and clew nut.. saturday I'll use my board but I've tried on my carpet detach isn't too easy LOL.. to put binding is definately more easier..

@@lucasrocha633 glad you got it to work. That’s interesting my screws worked fine, do you think you might have gotten a cross-threaded or deformed screw from manufacturing?

Oh wow, that’s a shame because it’s almost a direct opportunity for feedback that they could consider to possibly improve their product. I mean when the Burton step ons and the Clew bindings came out I was pretty excited to finally be slope ready as fast as when I ski. I wouldn’t necessarily say I gave negative feedback though. More so pointed out things I’ve had issues with. I still like them, I mean that’s why the clews are still on my board and the union strata bindings are in the closet.

I’m sorry, I’m not sure what you mean? If I understand I think you meant that even with the RU-vid video quality that the materials and build quality of the clew bindings aren’t good? I haven’t really experienced issues with mine for build quality or the materials. My issues have primarily been with the release handle or ice buildup/blockage.

I feel like the quality of build is not something I’ve worried about. I feel like the straps can be adjusted on the fly but as you said def not the high backs (without tools). I don’t find myself adjust these often though so it wasn’t a primary concern for me. I’m glad you mentioned it though because it’s something I didn’t notice especially compared to other bindings that are true tool-less adjustable.

Do you make it a habit to comment on a video without actually watching it? I believe very obviously I stated that I would probably not purchase these again and even listed my issues with this. I believe it fills a certain niche though. As far as the concerns listed in your comment. I personally haven’t had an issue with either the quality of the straps or the construction materials of these bindings. But I will agree that the engineering is somewhat “janky.”
