@123liondancer My main style is Choy Lay Fut, but I've learnt Hung Gar and Jow Gar......they're all very good. Jow Gar is between CLF and Hung Gar. Wished I had kept on praticing my one Jow Gar form....I have forgotten it completely. :o(
Even though I'm as quick as this , there are times when I've sparred with good boxers and my Gwa Sou would pick / block 2 incoming jabs and have to then Gwa Charp to deal with the 3rd coz these guys are also quick.
Back fist - Palm strike - Hook - Spinning Backfist = Great Combination. {PS. But why don't you hit with the first 2 strikes ? Those 2 strikes are Great Setup Strikes. Sorry but I'm just a boxer & I can't understand Omitting those first 2 strikes when they are sooooooooooo Powerful.} Thank You for Sharing.
It's interesting how different your training is compared to mine in relation to CLF techniques in sparring/fighting.The school I have trained at has more of a western boxing & kickboxing emphasis than you have here.Pretty cool to watch and it makes alot of sense.Best to you and your school.
Yes, i always thought that of all the kungfu styles Choy Lee Fut is the 1 that most looks like Western Boxing as far as the flow and combination. I was lucky to learn from Sifu Dave Lacey in the 80s and his was Buk Sing Choy Lee Fut refined for fighting but 5 years later i lived in Sydney for a while and Chan Yong Fa has a greater array of techniques and most are hard to sparr coz they for killing people eg combo Pek choy Bil jong , apparently that combo come from farming Pek Choy like chopping would Bil Jong like shovelling and targeted breaking the neck on one side with Pek Choy and then slip past and up into the otherside to break the neck with Bil Jong.
0:33 in this combo, how do you land the punch with your right hand exactly? (which surface of the hand/fist?) Looks like it could hurt the elbow or the THUMB if done incorrectly.
hi my name is Santiago , I used to practice in uruguay, I had been looking in New York but I couldn’t find a school that teaches this style, are you guys in new york? Im from queens
This is very inspiring to watch! Do you cross train or specifically train on how to defeat specific types of fighters? The reason I ask is I know a lot of smug Muay Thai types that think that the various kung fu styles are as much a waste of time as much as TKD or Karate as they don't train on avoiding knock out punches and just tend to have too many flowery forms. Your style seems to be a bit more direct, which is refreshing tbh.
Hi appreciate your comments - any concern about shoulder or hip injury for the big swinging strikes? How about bag choice - a hanging heavy bag instead of the standing one here?
It's pretty much like the Sparta kick in the movie 300, meaning it's used for thrusting, not striking like the ball of the foot. . Also, it's a great high kick because since you're striking with the heel you can get underneath someone's arm near the arm pit. The ball of your foot will be striking the under part of the guy's arm, and the heel can hit the rib cage. I hope that helps!
