I was in high school when Clifford and died. And my school was so cool that during class over the intercom system Cliff Burton's solo was played. Everybody got to hear it and you talk about a quiet moment in school for everybody. We all miss you. Cliff
Why, so many have. Look at the best ever at every instrument. They were God's gifts. Jimi, bon, Jimmy, John B, geezer, Bill W, Toni, Eric C, bucket, an singers I said Bon already buy Lane, plant, Andrew W, I could go on n on cliff was great but the list of greats is long at the age of 24. I mean just look at Black Sabbath in 1970. Each member was already a beast at their craft. Esp Wardy n Toni.
he was good, but not so amazing, a lot are better than him, at younger age, and , the most important they are still alive and are still pushing music farther, what tell you that cliff still has inspiration , like everybody saying he was young, and a young musician, even with great potential, no one can assure that he would keep this kind of composing skill, and maybe, it was hes only great idea, who knows... But even with all he has done, he was good yeah, but not even in the top 50 of best bassist of all time
Watching Cliff Em' All as a teenager and he is just shredding the bass and my old man (who knows nothing about Heavy Metal) hits the couch, looks up at me with his eyes as big as saucers and says "Is that bass?" he couldn't take his eyes and ears off of it....Just shows you how much of an enigma Cliff really was 👖🔔🤘
That’s why I say he’s the best bass player that ever lived he’s the only one I’ve heard so far in my life that could shred a bass! Like he was Kirk Hammett with an electric guitar doing a solo! He was a musical genius it’s sad he was taken so soon if he had lived just another 10 years at least imagine the solos he would have done by then! Rip cliff💖
Metallica in general have that kinda effect... My late ol'man listened the Black album with me randomly - he stated that he wasn't at all I interested in the vocals just the instruments only...
+Termo VOLTAGE with the first part "when a man lies, he murders a part of the world." Being a line that Merlin speaks in the movie "Excalibur" 1981, he must have dug it as much or more than I do. I wonder if James even knew where Cliff got that from when reviewing his old poetry/lyrics? Totally awesome!!!!
3:55 That smile he makes really shows how genuinely passionate he is about what he did. It’s such a shame he had to pass that early on, I can’t imagine how metallica would have turned out of he survived
So blessed to have seen him live! As for the 16 people that gave the thumbs down, if I ever meet you, I will break your thumbs. Still miss you every god-damned day Cliff! Be seeing you soon enough!
@@redrocket9861 well... Billy is great and always will be, but Cliff is in another different level. Both had their own level of greatness with their own class.
@@tommi_marsetio geddy lee, justin chancellor or les claypool are also insane. But i cant argue that cliff would have probably been the biggest name in bass today if he had lived
Tomorrow i'm gonna get my firts bass guitar, and i'm here remembering the reason of why i fell in love with that instrument, Cliff is just inmortal, he's a beast on the bass, a COMPLETE genius Rest In Peace Clifford Burton (1962-FUCKING FOREVER)
Fade to black was absolutely released before Cliff died, considering its on their 2nd release and he died after their 3rd. As far as "To Live is to Die" the lyrics are taken from Cliff's poetry/lyrics, which begin with a line from the 1981 movie "Excalibur" (still the best Aurthurian legend movie ever btw) Merlin spoke regarding Aurthur's father Uthur, "When a man lies, he murders a part of the world..." "These are the pale deaths, and so on are absolutely Cliff, likely inspired by that one line to go further. I do hope James and/or mates knew where Cliff got the line from and I strongly suggest everyone watch it often. I watch it and I think of Cliff and what it must have been like to see that, at that time, as a metal head, talented musician, drawn to the fantasy, tales of wizards and folklore and ancient battles, Dungeons and Dragons, sci-fi, and so on. In 1981 I turned 5, I was turned on to Metallica when I was 9 and that was it, thrash and a new understanding of what a bass could mean. We all carried on, Jason is absolutely great in his own right, Metallica definitely lost touch around 1991 (in my opinion) but regardless, Cliff was a complete, unique, amazing human being, a real person, so real it seems unreal to fathom. Those 1st 3 albums are truly where its at. Thank you Cliff, and thank the gods for letting us have the transcendent eternal message and gift of your music.
Cliff really was a complete Genius playing the Bass, he lived for such a short time but look at how he mastered the Bass. Only a Genius who dedicated his life to one thing can do that.
Imagine the songs Metallica would’ve written if Cliff would’ve lived!! I guarantee and justice for all would’ve sounded a whole lot better. RIP CLIFF!!! Love you brother!!!!
The solo from the metal hammer festival was one of his best!! Amazing...can u imagine hearing that live??? Cliff solod like nobody else. In an interview cliff was asked if he liked the blues he said not really but there's alot of Blues licks in his solos. His 2nd gig with the band March 19 1983 one year since Randy Rhoads had died ..... The guy standing in the back of the amp...don't realize he's standing by a legend!! I used to think it was Scott from anthrax
I won't ever forget James saying to the guy who was going to uncover Burton after the accident. Don't you f@#kin dare remove that from him!! The pain and hurt of the moment. The never found black ice on the road. Still shakes me till this day.
When James is introducing Cliff in the second clip, notice all the smoke in the air. Hilarious!!!! R.I.P. Cliff I still miss you every god-damned day!!! 💔🤘🍻
Everytime I watch something about Cliff I wonder how he would be today. He brought so much to the music world in that short period. What would he had to offer in longer time. How many masterpieces by Him and Hetfield we never had change to hear. Cliff forever!!!
Gosh. He was an INCREDIBLE bassist!! But Cliff didn't just PLAY bass guitar, he truly WAS one with the music; you can see and hear it in how he plays. He immersed his whole self in it completely.
