Dallin 2323 it agravate s the shit out of me when people put them in CLIFF Burton category his BASS isn't in the ROCK HALL OF FAME for no reason they culd Never do what that man did to a BASS guiatar never
@@lonewolfmcquade1079 he should be in the R’N’R HOF for being the best LEAD guitarist of all time (of course, besides Jimi Hendrix and David Gilmour) the way he plays the bass like a string instrument
Ive come to conclusion that Cliff's brain and hands were separate entities..His head would be swinging back and forth without even knowing whats happening, yet his hands are moving with precision.
Technically, Lars started Metallica, so he put the metal in metallica, and to some people, took it out as well, but to me, there wouldn't be a metallica without Lars, nor without cliff of course.
The thing that still so impresses me about Cliff was how he could maintain playing his instrument at such a full-throttle level while thrashing his head around like a washer drum that's about to spin itself off of its axle. I can't even play bass while keeping my head and neck still. I would've gone dizzy and fallen unconscious on my face had I tried to play the way he did.
But the fact that he played bass just to honor his brother who died when he (Cliff) was only 13. _"I'm going to be the best bassist for my brother."_ and practiced 7 hours per day. 🥺❤️ That's true determination. We miss you, Cliff! 💖
People often say if Cliff hadn't died Metallica would have never changed their sound or as they say sold out, but I don't think that's true at all. Cliff was probably the most eclectic member of the band in terms of musical taste and diversity. He was a big fan of lynyrd skynyrd, ZZ Top, and many other classic rock bands. Lars and James were the ones who were mainly influenced by heavy metal bands. I think Cliff would have welcomed the more hard rock approach that ended up shaping Load and the other post 80's albums. I do feel that the music would have been different than what ultimately became the aforementioned records simply due to his involvement in the creative process. The dynamics of the band would have been different as well. After Cliff, Lars and James began their epic power struggle over the direction of the band. Cliff's presence would have toned that struggle down because he was held in such high regard by the other members of the band. Metallica would have probably been a much more well rounded band both musically and internally. Cliff is certainly missed. He has become an almost mythic character in the annals of rock and metal music.
Chris Benavid I didn't know then that they would have the appeal that they do now. Wish Cliff was still alive I guess I was aware of them at the right time? I used to work with a lot of independent and punk bands around that time, crossover was happening and I've always liked metal so it was a logical progression. I kept my eyes and ears open.
Music critics can back me up on this, Cliff Burton is one of the greatest bass guitarists of all time. You do not have to be a metal junkie to appreciate his God given talent. Very few bassists can pull this off: Steve Harris from Iron Maiden, Geezer from Black Sabbath, Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Elufsen from Megadeth. Life is so much colorful having them around. RIP Cliff, you changed the World for the better...
29 years ago today this would have been his final hour. A true genius on the bass, I can't imagine how good he would be now if he had survived. Also an icon to heavy metal musicians in general, not exclusively bassists. RIP Cliff Burton
i dont think anybody has realised that he is playing all his solos so easily and precisely and that is why he is one of the greatest bassists of all time
Wrong Clif wasn't one of the best metal bassist of all time, he Cliff Burton is in fact hands down the best bassist of all music and more thank likely will remain the best until the end of times. No one can even begin to hold a light to Cliff.
I didn't know that it's possible to pick so fast with your fingers. I still believe it isn't. It was only possible for Cliff. I hope you're having fun in Heaven and I hope I'll be able to meet you once I left this terrible world.
There's a way to get lightning quick bass chops and its kinda like alternate picking on a guitar. You can go both ways with your finger tips and using two fingers like that, you can play insanely fast
@@mitchellhogg4627 I hate to say it like this but were you high when you wrote that comment Dave Mustang was maybe at a one compared to Cliff Burton he was like a 20 there is a lot of guitarist you can name that is really good like Randy Rhoads Zakk Wylde Angus Young in the list goes on and on but when it comes to bassist no one comes close to Cliff Burton
@@raymondcrenshaw5179 theres quite a few..alex webster makes cliff burton look like hed only been playing bass for a week. This is a classic case of metallica fanboys genuinely thinking metallica are god tier musicians when in actuality there are far FAR better...cliff was one of the best musicians in metallica, but for a band of relatively basic and unimpressive musicians in general that really isnt hard
@@raymondcrenshaw5179 if people are legitimately under the impression that cliff burton was the best bassist to ever live i strongly urge them to listen to any band other than metallica. Thats all i can say
Because guitars meaning lead and rythem are easy to learn and even easier to make them sound like a bass, but it making a bass sound like a lead guitar even with wha wha and distortion pedals is a extremely hard thing to do and then it's hard in itself to just play bass like it's a rythem guitar yet alone like it's a lead guitar.
Dylan Willis I dont want to sound like a douche but most people say cliff is better cuz hes dead. Dont get me wrong he is awesome but he used the bass distortion too much. Rob uses his regular sound. So that prooves he is better.
what a fucken beast behind that beautiful sound 'the bass' I wasn't born when cliff past, I'm 28 years old now and got into metallica when I was 14/15 I also picked up my first guitar and first song I've learnt was nothing else matters. lol I think that's everyone's first song they learn from start to end. now I can play almost all songs from metallica. through out those years Jason and rob were the highlight of my years but going through this classic old rare vids of cliff was a big eye opening of how of much talent this man had. I sit here and think 'maaaan' if this guy was still here.. we can imagine what more music he will offer to metallica with his bass playing. I love metallica to the death and I thank them for there inspirational music they have given me! long live metallica and cliff Burton! peace!
If it wasn't for him i would've never started playing bass! R.I.P! WE LOVE YOU!!! No one will ever be able to top him. I love the bass movement he was bold about. Such a beast!
They should have shown a video like this to honor Cliff at Metallica's hall of fame induction instead of listening to Flea talk for twenty minutes or how ever long it was, and nothing against him or the chili pepper's mind you, I just don't think most of the people there actually knew who Cliff was or how great a talent he really possessed.
Heres why i think overwise to people saying he sucks: he played the bass like a lead guitar and was one of the first, he added a certain style and tone to metallica's songs which made them more heavy which wasn't repeated with jason or rob, he was the best head banger :) , even if his song writting and solo's were simplistic it doesnt mean he sucks - ACDC songs are the simplest stuff going but yet they are one of the best going which proves it needs to be techniqualy advanced to be good. RIP cliff, would have loved to see you live
was taken WAY too early. can only imagine what metallica would have been in the 90's if he had still been around. he probably would of told Ruben to stuff it. He was the heart of Metallica, even they say that. He came up with most of the flows of the songs back in the first 3 albums. Just had so much to do with what Metallica sounded like back during their prime.
Ashraf Mohsen No. MoP is their best I would say. Following by Kill em All and then Ride the Lightning. And Justice for All bringing up the rear in my opinion. Which still makes it one of the best metal albums ever though
I love how crunchy and agressive Cliffs playing is. Its definitely a unique tone. He definitely can make that bass speak. RIP Cliff. You were one of the best
Cliff is great. I have seen this movie many times and often come back to this clip. I remember on the anniversary of his accident and his brother turned in alarm primary school to honor him. He was doing something amazing with the bass guitar. I'm already old but his music and for me METALCA are beginning to listen to metal music. I was on METALICA in POLAND in Chożowie in 1991 (1992 because some do not remember the exact date), but a ticket for this show, yet we are at home. I greet all the METALICA and FANS.
I've seen a couple of hundred live shows in my almost 53yrs on this planet... besides Geddy Lee, I don't think I've ever seen a better bass player than Cliff. Saw him live twice before he was taken from us way too soon. If there ever was a title of "lead bassist," Cliff's it. Revolutionary... I'd never seen a bass played like a guitar before or since...and doing it with his fingers! Just nuts...
I remember hearing about Cliff getting in an accident when I was about 13. I knew we had lost a great bass player/musician . He blows everyone away. Thanks for the clips. Metallica still jams. But Cliff will always be my favorite.
Damn dude... tears came to my eyes listening to this. Cliff, RiP old friend I never knew. So much emotion and incredible skill. He makes that bass sing.
