The guitar player in the video was Hank Marvin who was a member of Cliff Richards backing band The Shadows in the late 50s. The group went on to have a huge successful career in their own right. As for Cliff Richard he is one of Britain's most successful chart acts ever with 68 top 10 hits including 14 number ones including living Doll which was originally released in 1958.
I think Cliff has always been up for a laugh. I vaguelly remember seeing really old clip of him playing along to "Apache" and Hank Marvin (the guy who appears at 3:33 behind Rick) turning up at the end and demanding he give him his guitar back.
That's an amusing clip, and Cliff didn't do too badly either, at playing Apache. The funny thing was, is that Hank's beautiful red Strat was actually, technically, to begin with, Cliff's. Cliff had ordered it from America, and it was the first Stratocaster in the UK. And from there, great acorns arose, with Hank Marvin being the inspiration of Eric Clapton, and in Mark Knopfler, of Dire Straights, case, to not only to play the guitar, but to also have a red Stratocaster too.
Yes this is Cliffs song from the late 50s he’s now turned 80 so it gives you an idea of how long ago they made this It was for a charity show in the uk and Sir Cliff has got a great sense of humour I just adore him he is a British icon and he’s still going strong even now I went to see him live in October 2019 he moved around the stage like a 20yr old he always wanted to meet Elvis and even traveled to Germany when Elvis was in the Army and he just missed him by 5 minutes he was devastated I think he is 82 this year Love from Denise in Yorkshire England 🏴🏴🏴💖😂😂👏👏👍XX
Cliff is the 3rd biggest selling music artist in UK history behind The Beatles and Elvis. He's had 130 singles and LPs in the UK top 20, more than anyone else. ...... he has had Number One singles in 5 consecutive decades. He's a legend!
One of the running jokes of _The Young Ones_ is that Rick sees himself as an edgy cool anarchist who is in touch with the latest things that "the kids" are listening to, but his favourite musician is Cliff Richard; someone who at this point hadn't been cool for 20+ years and was very much someone that your mum would like. That is not of course to say that you should immediately disregard everything he has ever done. Although there are tons of naff Cliff Richard songs he did nevertheless start out in the late 50s at "Britain's answer to Elvis". If you do want to listen to something of Cliff's then start off at the begining with a track called "Move It"
Cliff Richard is a record holder as he is the only artist to ever have a number one single in five separate decades, he's also had a top 5 album in 8 consecutive decades (from the late 50's to the now early 20's)!
ah the memories of this song coming out! loved it when it first came out! the fond memories of listening to it etc and seeing it on tv and singing along to it with mates and laughing at the young ones!
Nicely done my friend 😂😂😂😂love cliff Richard and I also love the young ones series but I didn't have a clue they done this together 😃😃😃 u my brother are a legend for letting me see this 💙💙💙💙💙💙👏👏👏👏👏👏👏and Also Rik mayall is one of my favourite actors ever if u haven't seen drop dead Fred watch it lool as always hopefully Ur keeping safe 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
You should certainly check out a few of Cliff Richard's big hits... Living Doll, The Young Ones (theme to this show), Summer Holiday, Devil Woman, We Don't Talk Anymore & Mistletoe And Wine are probably some of his best known songs. He had a No.1 single in 5 consecutive decades in the UK.
The original Living Doll was from a film Cliff did called Serious Charge in 1959, he wasn’t the lead. But he ended up doing a number if films rather like Elvis and one of those was called The Young Ones, which is where they got their name from. So it was great when he teamed up with them for this Comic Relief charity single.
All the actors in the young ones were involved in something called the comic strip (a series of one off comic stories) a great one with Neil, Rick and Viv was called bad news on tour - a bit like This is Spinal Tap - a spoof documentary. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7ZSOB-bUwCU.html
Great reactions bxkid7 and have been watching your channel from the start. If stuck for more uk/Irish shows to react to "Father Ted" is HUGE and there are many episodes to react to and if you look at the views other reactors have gotten you will see that it will no doubt help your subscriber/view numbers big time! You have picked a good niche in reacting to uk tv and there is a mountain of content to get through so keep going and who knows maybe this time next year you will have a million subscribers....a spin on Del Boy's catch phrase!
interesting fact the song "Living Doll" was a number 1 twice with a 37 year gap making him the only artist to ever do that.... not bad for a man thats sold 300 million records :) and as your American you may not know that guitarist the very very famous Hank B Marvin from the Shadows
Cliff Richard originally released this song with Hank Marvin (he appears in this video) and The Shadows originally The Drifters were Cliff’s backing group. I remember when this was released In 1986. Christopher Ryan who played Mike in The Young Ones appeared in Only Fools and Horses as one of the Driscoll brothers Tony Driscoll also in the spin off Green Green Grass. As well appearing with co stars from The Young Ones the late Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson in Bottom among other comedies Absolutely Fabulous and One Foot In The Grave.
Great video. Great times. From the days before Cliff started releasing his Christmas singles.... Nothing wrong with ‘Carrie’ and ‘Wired for Sound’; but ‘Mistletoe and Wine’, no thanks.....
Haha, so glad you did this! Was wondering if you would after the series. What about Neil's song?? He released it at Christmas 1984 (i think). It won Best Comedy Record. Can't find the official music video, but there's videos of "Neil" performing on tv shows etc. There's also this one, which is the official track. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UXiis1C6grI.html And yes, i had this and Neil's song on vinyl. This one with Cliff is still brilliant! Another massive song on Cliff's is The Young Ones! And that's Hank Marvin on guitar - part of The Shadows who started as Cliff's band. Love Hank.
@@dnf-dead They taught me at school 'i' before 'e' except after 'c', however after typing niel i knew it just didn't look right, then i said f**k it who cares, i had no idea you would care.
It all stems from our journeys of watching the young ones and my awesome community. Young ones has introduced me to madness as well just with there music performances in the show =)
Actually he was famous in the States with "We Don't Talk Anymore". But he was never a big hit in the States. He was famous in Canada though because of the British connection. He was famous all over Europe, the Middle East, Australia and NZ. He even had wondeful concerts in Moscow in the communist days. He is also highly considered by Eurovision Song Contest fans for "Congratulations" and "Power to All Our Friends" representing UK in the contest twice. "Congratulations is a Eurovision classic despite not winning
Ah. I remember when this song came out as a kid. At school we used to mimic it. If I ever hear the original version of living doll I can't help but repeat ( in a Vivian voice LIVING DOLL!) 😆 🤣. Does anyone know where the toilets are?
Check out Bottom now you've finished young ones. It's what Rik and Ade did after the young ones in the 90s. And my fav comedy series ever. Think you'll like it
Thank you Kid 😁 I had a feeling you'd like this, the music video is just as chaotic as the show lol. I googled it, Cliff originally released the song Living Doll in 1959. You can see why he's a running joke through the show, the young ones are so outrageous and anarchic, vyvians even a punk, but they listen to easy listening mellow Cliff Richard 🤣💛
Close, but not quite up there with his appearances with Kenny, who was a very close friend of Cliff and even backed him on a B Side. That is what upset Chris Evans, who asked Cliff if he could do likewise but Cliff refused. The rest, as they say, is history!
