Climate change is a product of unsustainable development, not its cause.
Kaveh Madani, a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Environmental Policy of Imperial College London, believes that while climate change is a serious threat to the Middle East and Iran, one should not blame the problems created over decades of bad management on climate change.
In his opinion, climate change is going to exacerbate the already serious environmental problems of the region. He believes that "the house was already on fire" and now climate change is adding fuel to it.
In a recent article in the Guardian (www.theguardia..., he argues that Iran’s decision-makers must shoulder the blame for its water bankruptcy and warns that invoking climate change as the sole cause of terrible water shortages in Iran "lets those in authority off the hook".
