In this video I am adding a major dream item to my shop. I'm installing a "mini split" AC and heating unit. In south east Texas, it's not uncommon for 100 degree days and 80% humidity during the long summers. Instead of continuing to be miserable every May-October, I decided to built to bullet and make this climate controlled space. It will also keep my warm on those few cold weeks in January and February.
I have about 850 square feet of space in my shop, so what you see is a 18000 BTU unit that runs off of a dedicated 240 circuit. If you have a small space, a 12000 unit may work and will run off 120, however, a unit that runs off 240 will be more efficient and cost effective in the long run so plan accordingly.
There are many sites you can use to size your unit - I used www.pickhvac.c... among others to help me make my decision. Please note when installing any heating or cooling unit - electrical and HVAC should only be done by a licensed professional. This is both insure your unit is installed correctly, and cover you with warranties, insurance, and building codes in your area.
Bottom line - if this is something you want to do in your shop - do your research and don't cut any corners. I will tell you though, I believe it's worth every penny. Good luck!
