We climbed Mount Shasta via the Avalanche Gulch route on June 2-3, 2023. This is my 6th Cascade volcano having previously climbed Baker, Rainier, Helens, Adams, and Hood.

Good job, guys. It's easy for me to sit in front of my computer in Spokane and watch this, but I know that climb must be a lot of work. Thanks for sharing!

You definitely feel the extra effort required from the 14k of elevation.

Awesome video! This past summer my brother and I flew out west and did El Dorado, Shuksan, Baker and Rainier. Wish we could go out there more but coming all the way from North Carolina is a long expensive, flight. We are shooting for another trip this summer where we hit Shasta, Hood and Rainier again because why not. Love the videos… keep up the amazing work!

Thanks! I'm very fortunate to live in the PNW. I climbed a few dozen peaks this past season including El Dorado, Sahale, and Rainier (for the 2nd time).

Nice video. Love the way you balance being informative with actually showing lots of terrain and not just selfies the whole time😂 We climbed Sunday night/Monday morning the weekend before. Amazing to see how much less snow was at bunny flat just a few days later!

Thanks for noticing the different video angles! It's not always easy to set them up but worth it in the end. I'm always amazed at how fast conditions can change when the weather warms up.

Nice! I saw my truck camper in the parking lot in your video and i think I saw us coming down as you were almost to the summit. That was beautiful weather we had for sure. Congrats!

Nice work Brandon!! East Coaster here but coming your way next spring. I'm 6'0 200 lbs and looking for tent advice for Cascades/Olympics in spring/summer. Like to stay away from single walled due to condensation. Thoughts

Thanks! I'm a gear junkie who has tried too many tents over the years. I like to pull all my gear inside leaving only my shoes in the vestibule. For me, a 2 person tent is my 1 person tent. A 1 person tent is just too small and the weight savings doesn't make the cramped quarters worth it. My favorite right now is the TarpTent Double Rainbow Li which only weighs 29 ounces including stakes, guylines, etc. This is the tent I used on Mount Shasta and which I have used all over the PNW. The Double Rainbow Li is either semi-free standing (no trekking poles) or, with a pair of trekking poles, totally free standing. It has a hybrid design that is 50% single wall and 50% double wall and this arrangement handles condensation shockingly well. If you're looking for something a little cheaper (and heavier) it's hard to beat a Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2. It's a pound heavier than the Double Rainbow Li but is an excellent tent. When the approach is a little shorter so I don't mind the extra pound and I want to save the wear and tear on my Double Rainbow Li this is the tent I bring. We're about the same size so both of these tents will work for you too. Happy tent shopping. The mountains in the Cascades & Olympics are spectacular. I've climbed about 120 of them now.

@@BHarker75 Thanks for taking the time Brandon, that's great information. There's no way I'm going back to a 1 person shelter although I have a, Zpacks Altaplex which is marketed as 1 person, but it's liberal in length and width and weights less than a pound. I've never owned a Big Agnus product but I see the one you mentioned is on sale. I haven't been out of the country as you, but I've been many places in the states and am going on a pack rafting trip in the Arctic this August. After that, and even though I'm in PA I've really settled on spending as much time as I can in the PNW in my later years (I'm 58 & married). Getting close to booking a trip next spring on Mt Shuksan. With all your experience in the area, I'd really appreciate being able to DM you or to chat even though I'm not really all that boned up Social. Are you on another media where that would be possible if you're agreeable to it?
