Simply put, this is one of my favorite games ever and probably the best game in the whole Game & Watch series. Featuring randomly generated scrolling levels, the game is full of depth and feels like a classic arcade game. Plus, like any good arcade game, the difficulty level ramps up quick. Survival requires a combination of quick reflexes, some strategy, and a little bit of luck. Manipulating the play field to prevent a Blockman from filling in a space or waiting until just the right moment to jump onto a moving platform will make all the difference. You never know what kind of situation you’ll find yourself in the next time you play the game. In this game, the I think the developers truly made the best of the limited LCD technology of the time.
This video shows what I believe to be my best score in the game: 786. I’ve played this a ton and haven’t even been able to max out the score at 999 yet! Phases 18 and 19 are killer!
This game is also unlockable in Game & Watch Gallery 4 for GBA, but unfortunately that version doesn’t do the game justice. The enemies never get as fast as they do in the real G&W and thus the difficulty caps out much earlier. My high score in that version is 2000+.
