Climbing Highest Mountain of Indochina | Fansipan (3143m) in 5 hours | Vietnam Trekking
About this video:
Mount Fansipan located in Sapa, a town in the Lao Cai province in Northern Vietnam is often dubbed ‘the Roof of Indochina’ as it is the highest peak in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia at a height of 3,143m.
It is a challenging yet memorable bucket list experience where you need to have some hiking experience as there are several areas along the trail that require scrambling up rocks. Plus, you need to be able to walk/hike for hours.
Although it is possible to hike Mount Fansipan without a guide, it is better to have one as there are few points where you could get lost and end up somewhere else on the mountain. The hiking path is not marked so it’s best to go with someone who knows the trail.
My guide "Chu" was arranged by Zaazaa who is a local female guide and organizes a variety of treks for tourists. She has excellent customer service as she is easy to work with and to talk to over WhatsApp. We also did few homestay treks with Zaazaa and they were amazing. She is one of the best guides in Sapa. Contact Zaazaa at +841627852928 and she can arrange everything for you.
My guide picked me up promptly from my Sapa hotel at 6:00am and drove 20 minutes to the starting location at the Ranger Station. From the Ranger Station, it was only a few minutes to walk to the start of the Tram Ton trail. We started at an altitude of 2,000 meters (6,562 feet) high and passed by a stream and continued through the forest area. Most of the trail is dirt or mud with occasional steel stairways or carved rocks as “steps.” Beware that some scrambling is required so you’ll need some upper body strength.
My guide packed a picnic lunch of sandwiches and bananas. We had baguettes with slices of tomatoes, cucumber, Laughing Cow cheese, and sausages. It was a simple yet delicious meal to refuel.
Around 11.15 am, I reached the cable car station/Fansipan Legend and entered through a side door that led to the exit from the cable car and into a souvenir/gift shop area. We weren’t done yet as there were another 10-15 minutes of walking to reach the summit of Fansipan. After passing by the top attractions of Fansipan Legend such as the Great Buddha Statue, 9 Story-Waterfall, Lady Buddha (Guanyin) Statue, and the Alahat Pass with 18 bronze statues of different deities, I finally reached the top of the Fansipan Mountain at 3,143 meters (10,312 feet) and met my wife and son who arrived there using cable car.
For completing the Fansipan trek, I also received a participation medal and a laminated certificate of completion and it was a nice surprise!!
After spending 30 minutes on Fansipan Legend, it was time to descend the mountain and we 3 took the cable car back to Sapa town.
Helpful tip: You have to buy full ticket even if you ride cable car one-way down.
The cost for this trekking varies depending on whether you’ll hike Mount Fansipan in a day or over two days. For the one day trek, I paid $70 per person (excluding tip) and it included a local guide, a picnic lunch, Mt Fansipan fee, and round-trip car transportation to the base. Contact Zaazaa at +841627852928.

Hi Mayur, i am based in SG too. We are planning Fansipan with my 7 yr. old twins in 15 days. Need ur your feedback on if the hike is safe with kids ? As you also hike with your son, you might be able to help with the pratical info. Any suggestion for an experienced tour guide is appreciated.

Hi Pragna...I did 1 day climb in 5-6 hours and I am an experienced climber so please don't consider similar performance from your 7 year old kids 😅 You should definitely go for 2d1n or even 3d2n trip and that too kids should have good training because it is not a straight forward trek like Everest base camp. Here the terrain will be steep at times so kids should be prepared for that. I have my guide information in my video description , his name is chu chu. You can contact him but he don't speak very good English. Another thing you can Do is contact zaza , you will find her contacts in my sapa trekking video and she can find someone better for you as per your requirement. She only gave me details for chu chu. Zaazaa is an extremely great guide in sapa and you can do many other things with her for an awesome experience. You can tell her I referred.

Hey! Loved the video. Sealed the deal for our plan to trek Fansipan this October. Was hoping for your input on the average price for this trek. I see that you mentioned $70/person - wanted to confirm if this was the cost with or without the cable car tickets?(because I see that the price for the cable car is ~$35). Would greatly appreciate your response. Thanks! :)

That was purely guide cost. Nothing to do with cable car. All that my own
