Love how every video has a similar pace: motivated at the start, getting a bit overwhelmed when reaching 7th station, completly euphoric during the sunrise and completly devastated during the descend. Seems to be a common theme - so I guess I am prepared for it now. Thanks for the video!
You've described it perfectly well!!! Honestly had higher hopes for myself. The descent killed me, I slipped about 3 times and ripped a hole where the knees are 😂 BUT best of luck to you, it's a beautiful accomplishment.
I just did this today and it felt like we were inside of a small hurricane the entire way up. I have never thought I would turn around on a climb, but this one was a dick kicker and had me questioning every life decision I have ever made to get me to this point. We did it all in one go and stopped for maybe 2 minutes at each stop. Then ran down because we were going numb in our hands and faces. Cheers to you both for crushing this hike
Weather is always a hit or miss!! When we were at the summit, it was on and off raining on us. 😆 you’re a trooper for only taking short stops though!! Our friends who have done the hike multiple times said they had to turn back a few times because of a storm! I’m glad you made it out safely. ❤️
I watched a lot of Fuji videos and liked yours the best. Based on your recommendation I was able to get a reservation at Taishikan hut in August. I’m hiking alone but don’t feel worried about being alone with all the hikers going up. Did either of you have any altitude problems?
Yay thanks! That really means a lot. I hope you have a great experience. I did at some point when I was going too quick. Make sure to pace yourself and eat snacks. When I started to feel a bit lightheaded, I just took a break to get adjusted. Best of luck!
This is awesome! I would love to hike Mt Fuji end of summer! I’m curious how physically fit you both were for this hike? I do enjoy hiking but I’m not the most in shape 😂
We both hike often and we exercise weekly! If you want to hike it by the end of summer, I'm sure if you start getting in shape now your body will thank you! It was really hard on my knees and calves even with my normal exercise. Many older Japanese do this hike. Slowly but surely! Good luck!
Hi Christine, amazing video !! I am planning to hike on pre opening week : ie 25th June . And planning to take the same bus which arrive 11:30 on the fifth station. But not sure I can meet anyone on the trail as it is Pre opening week. But the huts are accepting booking . Are there any accommodation available in fifth station ?
Hi thank you for watching the video! I'm sure many people will also try hiking during preseason since more tourists are flocking in. There aren't any accomodation on 5th station, just shops and a few restaurants. Since it is preseason, the summit huts wont be open as well. Wish you the best of luck!!
@@Jaydev2001 Hi! I'm planning on hiking Mt Fuji on June 25th also. I was planning on hiking the Subashiri trail and staying at Taiyokan mountain hut. Want to connect on email or IG? Was looking for more people to hike with
@@VincentVuong-xk1qf ohh really? Since I could not find anyone I booked a return bus on 26 th evening 3pm. I am staying kawaguchiko and get a taxi early Morning on 25th and complete both way and get my bus at 3pm. Btw I am reaching Tokyo tomorrow night only .
How long did it take to get from the fifth to the eighth station? And from the 8th to the 9th station? I’m about to do this in a couple of days. Trying to do it in a day without staying at a hut. And when did it start to get cold?
It is possible to do it in a day without staying in a hut! Some hikers do that! It depends if it's crowded or not and your own pace with breaks. You don't want to go too fast because of altitude sickness. It's cold around 8th station if you're hiking at midnight like us, but the movement keeps you warm. We didn't start applying layers until we stopped moving at the summit to wait for the sunrise. Best of luck to you!
Thank you very much for this vlog! It is very informative and enjoyable to watch! This vlog helped me to decide if I should go on a hike or just enjoy it from afar, and it's the later on. I thought mt.Fuji is like some Alps in Switzerland, where we could ride on a gondola/train up to the hut or near the hut (which in most cases aren't huts but a proper hotel), and since I plan on traveling with my mom, I think this track is way too hard for her (to be honest maybe it's hard for me too).
I love your Mt Fuji video. How did you make your reservation for Station 8 hotel (capsule)? I tried but it sold out so fast. 😢 I planning to be there next month and hike all in one day but would have liked to rest at Station 8 and wake up early to hike to the summit, like you did.
I'm planning a solo hike too this coming July and this video has been very helpful! Thank you for all the information, the pack list was great for me to cross check with mine. I do have a question though, do you remember how much water you drank? I live in a tropical region and perspire ALOT, so I'm thinking 3L would be my minimum and i'd still have to buy maybe 1L from the stores, but i'm not too sure as i'm basing it on my water intake in a very hot (32-34 degC /~90-93 fahrenheit)and humid condition.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad it was helpful. I did not drink as much water as being in hot weather. I also bought water at the huts so I didn’t have to carry too much water with me.
Yes there are outlets on each floor. But not where you sleep. I just left my phone at the charging station until I was ready to unplug. The staff are accommodating if you need to charge!
@@ChristineWithJoy so we can climb just like that. Because in my country, Indonesia, we need to register before climb for most of mountains. But thank you for your info, it helps !! 😉
So excited to hike Mt Fuji tia Summer! I’d love to know what you recommend as packing because I’m already planning and already my list is so large 😅 like an unnecessarily large amount of things 😅😂
There is a packing list in the description of this video! Try to pack light but make sure you have warm gear to change into when you get to the summit. It's extremely cold up there! Good luck!
All of that really depends on which trail you take, how crowded it is, and how experienced you are. For us, to reach the summit it took about 6-7 hours from 5th station. Going down can take 4-5 hours. It's possible to do it all in one day, but many people like to stay the night for the experience and to get adjusted to the altitude.
@@ChristineWithJoy So my relatives who live there said we would hike about 7 hours up, stay the night and wake up early to make another 2-3 hour hike to the top to see the sunrise. Then walk down all in one shot. Does that sound right? I’m just wondering if I should go. What happens when someone goes for it and then gets to the point where they just can’t go on? Just trying to prepare for any scenario.
@@danielmartin3249 yep! That’s what we did! For those who don’t make it sometimes just stay at 7th or 8th station. Or they just go back down. Whenever you get altitude sickness just go back down and try to summit another time.
Nice! I'm a pretty active person already! I just changed my gym workout to lots of cardio and legs. I would recommend going on smaller hikes first and increasing the distance and altitude.
@@ChristineWithJoy thanks for the reply. Need to find a buddy who would do this with me. Didn’t realize they have a lot of structures, food, beer up there. All food is carried in, or helicoptered?
It’s not so long, but it’s very steep. Some people have done it in just one day. Others like to stay over night to wake up and watch the sunset. It’s your preference!
I think it took us about 5 hours. Depends how your body can handle the altitude as well, but I would say give yourself 6 hours for rest times along the way too! Good luck this summer, it might be crowded now that Japan is open. So it can also take longer if you have to keep waiting for people. Enjoy!
Thank you for your answer! :) I'm not sure if I will be able to go there this summer, but next summer I'm pretty sure I'll visit Fuji. I'm still thinking between Yoshida and Subashiri trail. Huge respect you climbed it! :)
@Christine, Love your channel. It's been helpful for my summer trip to Japan. SO I have a Question for you: Is it possible to trek Fuji san in one day on Opening day. I'm hiking Fuji San opening day this year (July 1st). I see that you took a bus to Fuji Station to jump on the bus to Station 5. Because the bus comes so late, and I wanted to trek it in one day. My Goal is to stay in Fujikawaguchiko and take a Taxi to mt. fuji 5th station yoshida trail so I can get there at dawn to start the trek in the early (Sunrise) AM. What's your recommendations? To your knowledge is that possible to get a taxi? where do you start from?
Yes, it's possible to do in one day, but not recommended. Many people hike it for the sunrise. So if you want to see it you can start later in the day. If you don't care for the sunrise then you can just start at dawn and finish at night. Make sure to bring headlamps for light. Yes it's possible to take a taxi to 5th station. There are paved roads.
@@ChristineWithJoy thank you so much for the prompt response! Super helpful. One more question for you. Sorry. Should we stay in Fujinomiya or Kawaguchiko? Which is the closest to best option/closest stay to Fuji 5th Station? And yes, as much as we wanted to do the sunrise, we have a flight back to the bay area on Monday. So we plan to do it all in one day and head back to Tokyo Sunday before our flight home. Thank you again for your feedback and guidance. Much Appreciated. Please keep sharing your experiences! Your videos are way more detailed! (Any footage of the trek down...how hard it is on the knees. LOL) Thank you ahead of time! What's your IG btw?!
@@profdyang4044 hi this is Devon, from Dublin. I am also planning to hike on either 25th June or 30th June . Planning to complete the trek within a day if I get an Accommodation on the way.
@@ChristineWithJoy oh wait what!!! Is that because your knees aren't used to hiking at an incline? I'm currently training for this hike by going up and down a small hill that has a ~40deg incline ~160elevation, in the hopes that my muscles get used to it, I'm also hiking 10-17km weekly. But reading that your knees took a month to recover is making me question my planning! As I intend to hike the Northern Alps after resting for a couple days after Mt Fuji.
@@hudson8074 I have a very bad right knee which I knew already, and I also wore a knee brace to protect it. The main thing was that my backpack was too heavy so there was too much pressure on my knees going down. If you do plan to carry a lot with you I recommend doing your hikes with weights to simulate a similar experience! Best of luck!
