Climbing Muggins Peak - Wellton, AZ

Muggins Peak is located east of Yuma and northwest of the little town of Wellton, in southwestern Arizona. It is a low elevation peak with not too much prominence, but it provides some fun class 3 climbing. And it's another beautiful desert peak. My brothers Josh and Patrick, and I, made the climb up, getting some climbing practice in and enjoying the route.

We did the loop trail around Muggins, but it is a hidden gem in the area.

Great views from up there. And for your hiking buddy he shouldn’t feel bad. He was on the cusp and did 99.9% of the work. If it doesn’t feel right don’t do it. I wonder if many of the selfie deaths those people had the thought before hand “i probably shouldn’t be doing this” but proceeded for the selfie.

Hi Piece Train, yes the views were pretty nice again. That may have been the first time Josh was on something like that, and at least he got some experience with it. Yes, it's best not to take a chance if you don't feel reasonably comfortable. I think the kid that fell off the Flatiron here a few years ago was taking a selfie. I haven't heard about any others, so is this happening more than I realized? People are way too obsessed with selfies. I don't understand what the draw is of you, yourself, being in the picture. Maybe if I was good looking I would do it too, but I hope not. I guess I'm just old and old fashioned.

Dying or being severely injured while taking selfies outdoors definitely occurs. In fact, I saw a report of a lady who fell from a waterfall recently that I expect was just that. While that is typically not mentioned, the reports are definitely out there.
