Enduring Activity: Clinical Case Review: Diagnosing Dementia in the Primary Care Office
Target Audience
This activity is targeted towards primary care providers (internists, IM/P, and family practitioners).
Statement of Need
Many clinicians do not routinely follow clinical practice guidelines or are unaware of new treatment modalities which will result in improved health outcomes. Providing education opportunities in targeted areas as well as adult specialty areas should improve a physician’s knowledge base and patient outcomes.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:
• Identify why cognitive screening is important in the primary care office.
• Determine how to make a diagnosis of dementia.
• Utilize cognitive screening tools of the MMSE, SLUMS, MoCA.
• List memory-enhancing medications used to treat Alzheimer's disease.
• Determine when and to whom to make a referral for your patients.
