Thank you for explaining this topic! I work in the dream setting in So cal. my k-12 special needs school campus has a occupational therapy clinic on site so we get to provide the kids with sensory rich treatments but still work on school based goals! The Rockwall and ball pit is always a hit!
I really appreciate the objective differences of OT pediatric settings. However, I would have liked to hear some of your personal preferences too and pros and cons. Maybe another video?
I think this video will help you make your decision! I made it for people considering a career in OT - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dquGq7eK63k.html
Hey Amuka! I am so sorry for the delay, my life has been hectic! Paperwork can be heavy in both settings. Paperwork for school-based might be worse because you typically treat more students and have a significantly higher caseload, but in my opinion it's totally manageable! Let me know if you have any other questions, I will respond quicker next time!! :) -Dana
This is very good information however, I didn't hear you mention anything about OT being a related service in school and is only available to students who have a special education classification. I know every state is different and there are exceptions to every rule, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!
That is absolutely correct and something I completely forgot to mention! OT is only for students who already have an IEP. That being said, students can get occupational therapy through a 504 plan, however that doesn't happen very frequently.
Wow, I am so flattered and would absolutely love that! Shoot me an email at TheOTGuide@gmail.com and we can set something up. I'm honored you thought of me :)
