"Which is the best Clinique moisturiser?" is a question I get asked a lot. So today, I decided to put Clinique's 2 best selling moisturisers, the Dramatically Different moisturising lotion+ and the Moisture Surge 72-hour auto-replenishing hydrator to the test to find out which one is truly superior (in my opinion!) by trying them both on different sides of my face for a week and seeing what happens.
As always, this is just my own opinion and experience, so please leave yours in the comments too!

I found your channel a few weeks ago and I’m so happy I did. Clinique is such an underrated brand. I have really bad cystic acne and started using Trentinoin which has dramatically cleared my skin, but it’s left my skin irritated and extremely dry. I have naturally dry skin anyways, I use the dramatically different lotion during the day and moisture surge at night, it has saved my skin I only use Clinique skin care now except for my cleanser I use cerave. Now anytime I try anything different my skin goes nuts and I have to go back to Clinique to repair it. Thank you for actually having Clinique reviews they’ve been so hard to find

Hi Amy, I discovered your videos a few days ago and was so pleased to find a fellow Clinique fan! I used to have type 3 skin and used the relevent 3 step set, and found the DDML to be nice but no anti-aging properties which I felt I needed, so began to layer the old green Superdefense over it after a using a couple of bottles of DDML on its own. The combo of 2 creams was great for a couple of years, then my skin suddenly changed just over 5 years ago to very dry, with peeling, cracking eylids and lips in Feb 2015. Switched to Extra Mild soap and 1.0 Clarifying lotion. Past 4-6 weeks I have been trying the hydrating jelly with blue cartridge like you, but find there is not enough moisture; I found I had samples of the Moisture surge and have been layering it over the top for the past 3 days and my skin feels much better. I haven't found a good eye cream for dark circles and fine lines, but I will try your tip for the fine lines! If you ever find a good dark circle eye cream, not one of those ones hide it, I would be so grateful!!! I love your videos, and sorry for the long post :-)

I've used the Dramatically different lotion for like 15 years and it's literally the ONLY moisturizer that doesn't cause any sort of breakouts or flesh bumps or anything. Literally perfect for my normal skin, gives it a glow and I actually feel like it firms my skin.

Thanks for the tip for eye cream. I use clinique all about eyes rich and love it. I have combination oily skin and I had the opposite opinions of you. The moisture surge to me was sticky on my skin, where the dramatically different made my skin feel silky. I have to say I have tried both moisturisers and prefer moisture surge as I find my skin just feels soft smooth hydrated and makeup seems to go on much better, and I find the dd moisturiser leaves my skin a little sticky and my skin is on the dry side but tends to look shiny after a few hours but it's not oily or acne prone

I have used the three-step program for forty years. I just switched from the number 2 to the milder number 1 toner as I got older and dryer. It’s not an either/or situation. You always use the three steps. Then the Moisture Surge is simply a supplement to that. When I had samples, I would add it at night after the DDML. Last year I bought the Moisture Surge CC cream to protect my skin during the day and even out my colour.

I wouldn't use the Moisture Surge and the Dramatically Different lotion at the same time. I think I'm right in saying that the supercharged concentrate should go first because it targets the deeper layers of your skin and then I'd choose one of the moisturisers to go on top as the last step :)

Hi Monica, thanks for your comment. I suppose it’s down to personal preference. When I worked for Clinique I was told that one was enough and I found that in the areas of my face they overlapped, I was very prone to break out so I wouldn’t use them both together personally. But if you’ve found a routine that you like and that works well for your skin then that’s what matters ☺️

I definitely agree when you said the Moisture Surge "feels like you're touching your skin and not product". It also left my combo oily (very prone to blackheads naturally + whiteheads from heavy product) with a VERY 'dewy' appearance that eventually mattified. But when you're used to having shine control issues, dewy ain't the look you want 😂. The DD Gel is my ROCK though. On days when my skin is irritated, red, had enough of the salicylic acid etc. the DD Gel always makes my skin feel moisturized and 'calm'.

Is the surge thicker than the dramatically different

No I’d say it’s a thinner texture actually

Sounds like we have similar skin! Moisture surge, yes. Dramatically different I’d recommend using the gel instead of the lotion 😊

@AmyAstridBeauty
@AmyAstridBeauty 4 года назад
Absolutely, the consistency is different! I wanted to compare the ‘original’ of both products which is why I used the dramatically different cream and then the moisture surge gel ☺️

Amy Astrid okay so maybe u can help me. Which is best i have really reactive sensitive skin dehydrated an congested. But oil content tends to irritate me. I’ve tried the cream it has broken me out. So which is best between the ddmg an surge 72 h ? I’ve got texture goin on my skin just bin really irritated lately. Was looking into Biologique brand. But I’m scared. Still doin research on that brand. But i love Clinique bin goin bk to it for years an years. I like their cleanser mild. Have u tried the lotion 1.0 cuz I’ve just went through. Bottle of lotion 2 it was very drying didn’t nothing but irritated me more an lotion 1 is the same. Bin reading up on their acne serum too.

This is what is in DDMG (and DDMG-ID). "Saccharomyces lysate is a probiotic yeast obtained by fermentation. Its by-products, known as postbiotics, can help normalize skin's microbiome by curbing the proliferation of microorganisms that can trigger signs of impaired skin." "The antioxidants in laminaria saccharina soothe congested skin by maintaining healthy levels of collagen, fighting against free radicals, and combating the effects of dirty, polluted air found in the cities." "Polygonum cuspidatum root extract is a plant whose root is a good source of the potent polyphenolic antioxidant trans-resveratrol, which is considered the most bioavailable form of resveratrol." "What does Lactobacillus ferment do for skin? "In skin care, lactobacillus helps calm and comfort skin to instantly relieve the dry, tight, bothered sensations that come with irritation. Yes, lactobacillus soothes and balances your skin just like probiotics can do for your stomach. When it comes to upset skin, it's pretty much a lifesaver." and then they used this complex to comfort the skin, soothe it and balance its' hydration levels. * Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract , Hordeum Vulgare (Barley) Extract\Extrait D'Orge , Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seedcake , Caffeine , Trehalose , Sodium Hyaluronate , Tocopheryl Acetate* this is why this stinkin ddmg always worked for me cos clinique uses ADVANCED ingredients. let alone, their other more high performance moisturisers (which are even more costly) but quality.
