I have since taken multiple classes both rifle and pistol and I still think I learned the most from Clint and his wonderful staff and wife. It also spoiled the hell out of me in terms of training since I started with the best. If you train then you need to train with Clint.

Two points: Mr. Smith is so wonderful because he never tries to sell you something. He tells you what HE does and he tells you WHY he does it and leaves it up to you to make your own decision. Imagine how great our country could be if our leaders talked as straight as he does. James is unlike 95 percent of the interviewers on paid TV who struggle to inject some comment that they think will make them look smart in the presence of the genius being interviewed. James is one of the few who knows his job is to facilitate the enjoyment of the guest, not to be on a par with the guest or a distraction. Thanks to both of you!

Lots of solid info coming from the legend. That Sharps is something else! I was laughing so hard when he said, "it has a crack in the frame and drill hole" referring to the 1911 😅 So many pansies these days that worry about scuffing a Glock Gen4 finish, and Clint Smith is holding his own with a .45 that has a cracked frame still running strong! Some of my generation could really do to learn a thing or two from this guy. Keep up the great work James, and hopefully one day soon I can take a trip to Thunder Ranch. Then I'll get some angry wisdom to add to my arsenal 😎 Everyone wants the newest, latest whatever wiz-bang gun. Get what works for you, then run it into the ground with solid training and LOTS of practice. When it breaks, get another one of the same gun and keep working with it. Practice and proficiency are far more important than a new gun. Skills can be moved later, but stick it out with a good tool and you can use the other tools. If you keep changing you're just shooting yourself in the foot.

“When you carry guns they can’t be too small and when you fight with them none of them can be too big.” -Clint Smith (Boomstick Macdaddy) His voice soothes me and tells me it’s all gonna be ok.

Wow, that was awesome. It is funny that people of our age (Vietnam War Era) have pretty much the same types of guns. 1911, M1A, and I like Colt over Smith & Wesson, even though I own a Model 57. I too broke down and bought a Glock. I feel so much smarter now! Thanks!

I'll probably get alot of shit for this but I'm a millennial and I carry a full size 1911. You don't have to be old to like them. I shoot great with it, it fits my huge hands well and I'm comfortable with it. It was the gun I learned how to shoot with. I also don't feel under armed with it as the likelyhood of me having to reload in a self defense situation is very small. I've tried several glocks and didn't particularly like any of them, not knocking you if you're a glock person but I just don't care for them. There are other striker fired pistols that I do like, and would carry.

Couldn't agree more. Its your personal choice on what you carry. I have carried a S&W 6906 since 1986. Why do I carry that gun?because I know it like I know any part of my body. It goes back to the 20 year veteran police officer who died in a gun battle because he had changed his service holster from a push through to a twist out. They found he had drove his firearm through the stitching trying to draw his weapon.
