An older friend told me this: when someone older shares their wisdom, listen close. Eat the meat, spit out the bones. You don’t have to agree with everything, but at least consider what they have said. Pay attention. Think about it all. Act accordingly.

Interesting video. When I began the police academy in ‘68 we were taught accuracy w/our revolvers (bulls eye shooting) but not how to survive a gunfight. Following my 1974 gunfight w/three armed robbery suspects our range training changed, and we were trained how to win a gunfight. I was damn lucky to have come out on top that night, but I’m also a Viet Nam combat vet so that may have had something to do w/it.

Only one cup, but I drank it slow. Couldn't find anything I'd want to debate with Mr. Smith, especially carrying a defensive pistol without a round in the chamber. Most people, especially as they get older, are going to have enough trouble reacting to a life threatening situation with one IN the chamber. Having to rack one in will almost surely result in rendering the pistol worthless.

@nadermazari3334 2 года назад
Very true. I have always done the same. Decades ago I was laying some boards in the attic of my single story house. Noone was home except me and it was about 1100. I heard my dogs barking. It was that bark that most dog owners know. Not the casual "noise making" sound but one where there is urgency, fear, and pitch to it. I peered out of one of the gable vents and saw two young guys looking around in my backyard. The fact that I had my Glock 19 with one extra mag on me made me feel a lot better as I was in a bad situation. They milled around for a while and then perhaps the barking got to them and they just left. I did call the police but they were not gound. I was lucky I had my pistol. If they had decided to enter the house (despite the dogs) it may have become a whole different situation.

Put a seat belt on right before a collinson, probably same as trying to chamber a round while being attacked, carry chambered
@wheelguns4wheelmen802
@wheelguns4wheelmen802 2 года назад
My position is "it depends". I agree that you should be comfortable carrying with a round chambered. That said, there are times when doing so may create more risk than carrying without a round chambered. All cost-benefit analysis. Like, are you a suburban housewife at a child's birthday party and you carry off-body with a purse? Probably Israeli carry. Are you carrying for bear defense in the timber? Definitely round chambered. Also depends on the firearm itself and holster. And I'm thinking handguns. If you have a shotgun with a design that doesn't have a drop safety, you probably don't want to drive around (or keep it propped in the corner of your bedroom) with a shotshell in the chamber. At the same time, if you have a firearm (specifically a long gun) with an empty chamber, that also obviates the need to actuate a manual safety as you can leave it off safe.

I’m late to the party but wanted to say thank you for the video. I carry whenever and wherever legal…. and while at home. I have a membership with a local range that also offers classes that also cover the legalities for carry and use of a firearm in the state I live in. The very first time I’d come across anything related to Clint Smith was an article in a gun magazine. At the time (21years ago) I was looking for a holster for my first pistol. In the article I read and have carried a quote from him. “Carrying concealed is meant to be comforting, not comfortable.” Thank you both for all that you do.

As a criminal defense attorney who has been through (and observed) many jury trials, I have to disagree with the assertion that people are subjected to "law as manipulated by lawyers" when at trial. In my experience, good prosecutors may be able to skew the facts slightly or the legal standards slightly if (a) they have rules of evidence on their side, or (b) the judge on their side. But for the most part, judges get evidentiary decisions and jury instructions correct, or correct enough. Moreover, a competent defense attorney can prevent manipulation of the jury by the prosecutor during opening and closing arguments by objecting as that sort of emotional or factual manipulation would be prosecutorial misconduct. In my experience, juries normally don't follow the law, but not due to "manipulation by lawyers" or the judge, but rather because they just find people guilty based on right or wrong. So if you shoot a drunk who entered your home by mistake unarmed, yea, probably going away from a long time. If two dudes approach you and your girlfriend in a parking lot at night and demand money with their hands in their hoodies and you shoot them and it turns out they were unarmed, you'll probably be okay.

Great video. Take from it what we think applies to our own ives. Clint has his wisdom....but he is jubst ONE guy.....if we learnt a few thigs...YEAH11 :) "Street smarts"---when Clint was talking abut "...before driving away in car look in back seat....BUT I'M IN A HURRY...et.". Little things. :) too many people get complacent. Believeing the chances of being in danger is 1 in a million....etc. What if that one day has arrived? :)) Hard to get people to think "tactically" who aren't of that thiking already kinda....heh....But i guess that's what Thunder Rach is about as said...."....they get us dto dig the hole for the foundation..."...good analogy from Clint. Sadly most peole won't take measueres to take any "life skills" courses...Clints's. EMt type courses, nor will most put a fire extinguisher bside their bed...heh.... Take from this what we can...hopefully we know what is important...some people will watch this video and still not get it.....AND WE AL HAVE DIFFERENT "PHILOSOPHIES OF LIFE" A "DIFFERNT MANUA OF ARMS"......E.G. I DON'T BELEIVE IN ccw FOR CIVILIAN--I THINK IT'S SILLY AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS....MOST GUYS WHO edc/ccw STILL PLAY VIDEO GAMES.... TAKE FROM THIS WHAT WE CAN....(i HAVE A DOG SLEEPS ON MY BED B ESIDE ME HEH....NOTHING GETS PAST HIM...E.G. DELIVERY AT MY FRONT DOOR..LIVE IN A CONDO SO NO DOORBELL :) kNOWS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOMEONE RETURNING HOME TO THEIR UNIT AND ONE AT my dr...)...

Very practical way of thought on primary functions, life happens good and bad, the real danger is a lack of awareness. The difficulties ahead must be dealt with intelligently because it will be in short supply, your future as well as others may depend on your clarity and focus both of which develop through training.

A great video. I always enjoy listening to Clint Smith. I just learned he came from Indiana, where I live. We are planning on driving to Oregon/Washington later this year. An informative interview.

Never heard of this channel, but just watched this interview in its entirety and signed into RU-vid on my phone so I could leave this comment. Fantastic interview asking good questions without interrupting Clint. Very cool - you have a new subscriber

I tried to just shut up and let Clint talk. I learned so much from him in the 5 days I was there. It was truly an honor and I am so thankful to James for inviting me along.
