The 197 is brilliant, and although I've never driven a Williams, I doubt the 197 is anywhere near as much fun as it. I have a 182 now, albeit with a few tweaks, but I have friends with Trophys, 197s and 182s and the 182 is a lot more involving to drive than the 197. And quicker in a straight line too. However, for driver involvement, none of them can hold a candle to my old 106 GTI. Now that was a fun car!
Exactly which is why he gets respect. Although he has also been on TV car shows as a journalist since starting with Top Gear in 1987. Ironically (considering the anti tiff/5thgear sentiment now on youtube) he has actually presented Top Gear for much longer than May or Hammond.
ive owned a clio williams for a few months now.perhaps not as outright fun as a renault 5 gt turbo - but quicker std for std - and far better at cornering. i do love my williams. bizarrely a decent cruiser aswell. great car a true classic.
Tiff beats May, Hammond and Clarkson hands down as a driver. He doesn't waffle on about bullshit all the time, he just drives a car and gives highly accurate and useful feedback. No one on top gear gives this information, they just tell you if its as fast as a rocket or as slow as a turtle. You might smile at that synopsis but it's useless if you actually want to buy a car. Thusly 5th gear is always good to watch so stop your pissing and moaning about it in the comments you bloody fools.
@scoot24925 1.9 and 1.6 GTi's are similar for acceleration, due to the different gearbox internals... They are VERY similar to the Williams... Driven all.
@mr2gti driven a williams but not a 1.9,i driven a 1,6,both fun cars but clios willy acceleration advantage leaves the 1,6 for dead,1.9 has about 25 hp more and i think it could not be as fast in both twisty/straight roads as the williams. A 205 GTI with a T16 conversion thats what i call a bomb :)
Whoever put this video on and typed the Clio RS 200 obviously has learning problems, since the Clio in the vid is a 197 and is STATED by Tif as a 197! Duuuur.
i wouldn't say the best, but preaty good, would be a very decent comment...

Clio williams -> 2000cc 150 CV Clio 16v -> 1800cc 140CV mismo chasis, frenos etc... Yo aun tengo mi Clio 16v y sigue siendo un cochazo... y mas de uno se queda asustado al ver un coche de 16 años mojandole la oreja... :P PD: En recta todo el mundo sabe correr...
@scoot24925 Got to ask, have you ever driven both a 205 GTI 1.9 and a Williams Clio? There is not much in it and a good 205 GTI is a true road/track weapon. Too hard to compare a 200 and a 205, totally different cars.
@mr2gti well its just about personal preferences then...all this is pub talk when compared to real driving AND it really matters the condition of the cars you driven (and me) mileage etc.
@scoot24925 500 Miles in - and I can honestly say... I'll Keep the Clio lol. I guess the lack of miles and run in time had restricted me lol. But a 10k Miles 1991 1.9GTi can command BIG money.
@dadot37 Depends what you define as best? I'd swap my 1 week old Clio 200 (Cup Chassis) for a ultra low mile MINT 205 GTI 1.9 tomorrow. But obviously pay a lot less lol.
Stock Renault Super 5, one was a 1100cc (rolled it), now I have a 1400cc. Both of them tried to kill me more than once, you got to have some respect for them or they'll bite you.
this car is impossible to find...there were only 500 of these made...threre use to be two blokes where i live, both had them both totaly fucked them up...not knowing what they had!
How can you say Renault is the best? Poor build quality and unreliable in the main and have you seen how hard it is to change a headlight bulb on the new megane? What i would say tho having got a clio 172 is that you will struggle to find a cheaper car which is as much fun as the little clio and to be honest there isnt another car out there for less than 10k that i would rather have! (except for a 182 obviously)
