This is the tutorial that inspired me to create my own. This tutorial gives a more "real" watercolor effect than mine, so definitely check it out!

The only part I don't understand is why bother putting in the base color if you're going to make it white anyways? Why not just put white from the beginning?
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 4 года назад
The reason is that I want to see what the overall color scheme looks like before I paint with watercolor. Because the watercolor brushes give a lighter color than the original intended, by placing all colors first with solid bucket I can get more suitable colors. However, I don’t think this is an essential step, it is something you can skip if you don’t find it useful or you’re comfortable choosing the colors directly with the watercolor brushes (^^)b

Lovely video as always and very useful! Was wondering for this type of piece what size for the canvas do you like to use and what resolution?
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 4 года назад
Thank you! I always work at 350dpi when it comes to illustration. Regarding size, this one I made in A4 because I wanted to get it printed for cons, but normally I work on a smaller canvas (if I'm not going to print it, I work in A5).

hiya! just wanted to say thank you so much for the tutorial, it has been helping me a lot!! i did want to ask a quick question about your brush settings tho o: i downloaded and have been using the different brushes in the pack, but you seem to be getting a darker overall colour in your first strokes (like the colour intensity seems to be coming through a lot more) ive tried to change some of the setting myself but im not super familiar with it and cant seem to get it to that same deep colour, is there any way youd be willing to share some of the brush values you have set?
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 4 года назад
I'm happy to be of help! My brush settings must be the same as yours because I never changed anything after downloading them, so the difference must be the tablets we use. Different tablets give different results (for example, my travelling device gets me thinner lines than my main device, which would also result in lighter colors for the watercolor brushes). Maybe there is some place on your computer where you can callibrate your tablet so it requires less pressure to get thicker lines (so that it also requires less pressure/strokes for darker colors)?

Thank you so much for this tutorial, but I have a question, how do you apply the base colors? do you paint it in or use the bucket tool?
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 3 года назад
To apply the first base colors (the ones that are solid and have no texture) I use mainly the bucket and then I fix edges and such with mapping pen. To apply the textured base color after that you have to do it with a watercolor brush from the pack I recommend (or any other you find), otherwise it will have no texture.

Is there a simple way to fill in base colors? I find it incredibly tedious to paint them in while making sure not to color past the lines.
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 2 года назад
I made a bucket to make the process as simple as possible (please, follow the instructions to use it properly): assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1758783 I hope it helps somehow! I also have a video about using the bucket (it's the first one from my Tips&Tricks series). If you mean filling in base colors with the watercolor brush, it is explained how to do it easily on this video.

hello Inma! new subsriber here, i just want to know what are you using when you ink you drawings? do you use pen or pencil?
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 4 года назад
It depends on the drawing and the coloring style I'm using. For this one I used a pencil (I think?), you can find the link to the specific brush on the video description (^^)b

I downloaded the watercolor brushes but none of them work when I try to use them. Was there a step I missed for them to work properly?
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 3 года назад
There’s no special step to use them. They don’t work? Can you give me more details of your problem so I can try to help you? Are you using them on a normal layer? (Non-vector)
@FrostDrive
@FrostDrive 4 года назад
I don't understand how everybody gets the smooth gradients and not major bleed/darken overlapping everywhere
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 4 года назад
Do you mean for the base color? The trick is to paint the area in one go. The moment you stop pressing the pen, when you start painting again there will be a noticeable line where you left it (if this is not what you meant, give me more details so maybe I can help you).
@angylouv
@angylouv 3 года назад
What other option could I use if I don't have "change color to drawing"?
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 3 года назад
That option is now called "convert to drawing color", you should have it no matter what version you're using. Otherwise you can lock the transparent pixels of the layer, select the color you want and use "fill" on the edit menu (^^)b

I have a problem, I hope someone can answer me :) For some reason my brushes have very litle opacity, even do their opacity is on 100%. To make the color that i want i have to press really hard and draw the same part a couple of times, nothing near the way she uses the bursh when putting the basic colors with that watercolor effect. I dont know whats worng, i tried with different types of layers and mixes but nothing helped. Thank you!
@alia_kido
@alia_kido 3 года назад
Also, the first time i draw with the brush the opacity is so low that you can't see anything, you have to draw over again at least 3 times to see anything
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 3 года назад
The brush is meant to have low opacity (you can see that it doesn't paint with the color I choose, but a lot lighter), but it seems you're having a problem because it's not meant to be so hard to see color. The only thing that comes to mind is that your tablet settings are set to be super sensitive to pressure (meaning you need to press really hard to get higher density). You can change that either by adjusting your tablet on the pen pressure settings option on the File menu (which I do not reccoment because it will change the way you work with ALL your brushes) or by adjusting the brush itself. I don't usually edit brushes so I'm not sure how to do this, but if you click on the little wrench to open the brush options, go to ink and play around with the numbers (I have the amount of paint set to 100 and the density of paint set to 50. Opacity is set to 100).

how do you make it so the color stays inside the lines?
@InmaPollito
@InmaPollito 4 месяца назад
It's explained in the video (^^) Around 1:30 I apply base color, around 2:25 I explain how this part works so you don't paint outside the lines (it's using the clip to layer below function over the base color layer).

If there's any specific part you don't understand I can try to explain. If you don't understand any part at all, then I think you need to check other tutorials to explain the basics of this software. The technique I'm using here is super simple, but it requires a basic knowledge of layers and blending modes on Clip Studio Paint.
