it DOES take a lot of breath even though none of the nones are high n difficult. mine redition, u can hear my breath. So bad at d begginging but I learned to take care of it later yay
This is all the more impressing when you learn that Meryl Streep insisted on singing all her numbers live each take, while most of the other cast used a pre-recorded studio song. Artist integrity right there.
Actually it might be a challenge to sing live. But on the other hand, singing live is more easy for an actor, because you can get in character on the movie set and try different styles, tempi and intonation. It is closer to normal acting and better than being stuck to a pre-recorded version, which lets you no freedom. That's why the cast on "Les Miserables" (including Amanda Seyfried) had all to sing live. The composer adjusted the music to the play of the actor in post production. Which is also the normal way of intonation of movies.
@@martinahudson5734 The making of featurette on the DVD said that they used a mixture. The director allowed Meryl to see her songs live because they were able to get more emotion from her that way, while other scenes such as Lay On Your Love On Me were done with a prerecorded track.

She died from singing over those rooftops😂 jk for me the 2nd movie is an alternate universe where donna s mom is alive an old greek lady gives houses for free and she met the guys in a different way and they look differently and all the photos she made with the guys in the first movie while she was young are nowhere to be found inn the second so a non cannon sequel.
"Our song!" "Your song?" "It's MY song!" Can we just take a moment and appreciate that three men loved the same woman and not once did they resort to nasty behaviour?
Tanya: Ladies and no gentleman for one night and one night only Rosie: Cause that's all we got breath for Donna: speak for yourself you old bat Tanya: the worlds first girl power band....Donna and the Dynamos! I've watched this movie god knows how many times but hey you can never watch Mamma Mia to many time :D
I think the reason this movie works so well is that everyone just genuinely likes each other. And no one's ever embarrassed to express it, or themselves. Even with the animosity between Donna and the dads, it's all stemming from very warm, but complex feelings. This moment is so sweet because of how much Donna and Sophie love each other, I think in some other movies they'd have the daughter to be embarrassed to see her mom do something like this.
I feel like this is something that she has asked for for years and it finally happened as a surprise. You can see that in her reaction to it. The mom knew that the band was going to giggled at as it was music and style of a different era than her daughter's, and that was part of the fun of it for the mom, I'm sure. Though I'm sure that her younger self may not have believed that either would ever be the case. Such a cool scene! ❤
Everyone in the cast did all their own singing. Amazing. didn't know Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, et al. could sing like that.
@@jackdaone6469 I love his voice even though it may not be as amazing as the others. Meryl was on Broadway and from what I heard Pierce had to try and learn to sing for the movie so I'm not surprised that he is not at the same level
I saw these girls perform this for their friend at her bridal party and I came to cry cause I have no friends who know me well enough to do this for me 😭😭😭 a girl can only imagine
no he/she I don't know don' think what you say you are horrible he/she love his parent and you have stop because he try to say if he/she have a mother like that is so happy
Take a moment to appreciate Meryl's acting and the directing, how she keeps glancing over where the boys are, losing her charisma for a second, and then changes back immediately Also 2:35 where shes like look look look and then keeps singing and the boys are just dancin man i love that
I know! Mine, she's an actress, but her singing is better than quite some of the Pro Singers, ok without knowing how the movie crew edit the singing, still you can't edit everything. I think hers better than Cher's. But then the latter is wow, ove 70. However, Streep is no young chick either. thumbs up for her!!! I just learned to sing this Super Trouper n The Winner Takes it All. They sound beautiful n easy, mine, they are not easy songs like it sounds. My two videos of these two songs are hours of learning, just learn by recording each time, like 8 hours total? Just shows how good she IS.
I find this achingly sweet! Three ladies trying to relive their younger and glorious selves through a song. It might as well be our generation's anthem; clinging to the memories of our youth yet firmly aware that we are glad to be old somehow....
I have a list movies that I can constantly watch and not get sick of, and as huge ABBA fan, this move heads the list. This scene and the scene with Slipping Through My Fingers are my favorite. I cry every time I see them getting dressed for the wedding. Meryl Streep is AMAZING!!!!!!
I miss those good old days when Miranda Priestly, Beverly Hofstadter and Molly Weasley would get together to sing at Cosette's bachelorette party with James Bond, Mark Darcy and Eric Selvig as their groupies.
When I got married me and my two best friends did this dance too this song for my mom that was in the audience. When we where done she was a crying mess but then again so was I. This song will forever hold a special place in both my mothers and my heart.
My favorite song also as well as The WInner takes it all. love all their music from Abba. I am so glad i bought this dvd last night and my brand new lap top. I earned it...working very much at work. :-)
my niece was close to being a three years old when i thought this was a great movie to show her and my gawwdddss... she was just a ball of giddy right after. it was adorable how she always ask me to play the movie when i baby sat her and years later! my cousin, her uncle took her to the cinema where she enjoyed the next movie. this is one of the songs in the movie where she would passionately sing along to even though she didn't quite got the lyrics right. :D
Tanya-Ladies, and no gentleman! Presenting for one night, and one night only! Rosie-Because that’s all we’ve got breath for Donna-Speak for yourself you old bat 😂😂
One of my favorite movies of all time! I watch it so often I have almost worn my DVD out! Love the music and catch myself smiling throughout it. Can't say that about many movies these days!💖
I love this song. and the scene. Donna loves her daughter to her this awesome bachelorette party I love Donna's reaction when she sees Bill, Sam and Harry. I don't think there,s anything Meryl Streep can't do.
"Super Trouper" Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me But I won't feel blue Like I always do 'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you I was sick and tired of everything When I called you last night from Glasgow All I do is eat and sleep and sing Wishing every show was the last show (Wishing every show was the last show) So imagine I was glad to hear you're coming (Glad to hear you're coming) Suddenly I feel all right (And suddenly it's gonna be) And it's gonna be so different When I'm on the stage tonight Tonight the Super Trouper lights are gonna find me Shining like the sun (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) Smiling, having fun (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) Feeling like a number one Tonight the Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me But I won't feel blue (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) Like I always do (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) 'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you Facing twenty thousand of your friends How can anyone be so lonely Part of a success that never ends Still I'm thinking about you only (Still I'm thinking about you only) There are moments when I think I'm going crazy (Think I'm going crazy) But it's gonna be alright (You'll soon be changing everything) Everything will be so different When I'm on the stage tonight Tonight the Super Trouper lights are gonna find me Shining like the sun (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) Smiling, having fun (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) Feeling like a number one Tonight the Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me But I won't feel blue (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) Like I always do (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) 'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you So I'll be there when you arrive The sight of you will prove to me I'm still alive And when you take me in your arms And hold me tight I know it's gonna mean so much tonight Tonight the Super Trouper lights are gonna find me Shining like the sun (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) Smiling, having fun (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) Feeling like a number one Tonight the Super Trouper beams are gonna blind me But I won't feel blue (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) Like I always do (Sup-p-per Troup-p-per) 'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you [repeat and fade]
I just noticed Tanya notices the guys show up right after Donna looks at them a second time and before she even says "look, look, look." Doesn't look intentional!
Man its been forever since I watched this. The other day we were getting the music room ready for the schools open evening. And my friend put on the mama mia soundtrack and blasted them on the speakers and now I'm addicted again. I used to watch it a million times when I was younger and I often performed them too
