-Wins a Tony for playing Thomas Jefferson -Releases an industrial hip hop EP with BDSM cover art and Whitehouse samples two days later Daveed Diggs doesn't give a fuck
I listen to King Crimson, Frank Zappa, The Residents, Die Antwoord, Jack Parow, Tom Waits, Charles Mingus, T.Monk, Rev. Horton Heat, Tim Fite, Primus, Beastie Boys, Laurie Anderson, Critters Buggin'... and a shit ton more... And I have listened to Clipping every damn day since I was turned onto them Aug 2015. This new EP makes me very happy.
You'll get on all fours and beg for that sweatshirt, dog! Why do you deserve such splendor, my naughty little puppy? Tell Mistress all about it, now.... Just kidding. BDSM imagery is wicked, no?
I swear Shooter and Wriggle are the best songs live. When i saw Clipping live Daveed nailed it and the best part was when the crowed whispered shooter back to him just i wish i could back~.
Never heard of them until I saw them open for The Flaming Lips. Holy shit, they were great, maybe better than The Flaming Lips were(I listen to everything that's good, genre doesn't make a big difference). Most of the crowd didn't really seem to be into it much.
Death Grips and Clipping have very different artistic intent. Totally different artists. I'd look closer and you might be able to understand. It's important to remember that people have been making noisy rap much longer than it's been popular.
I've never been a huge fan of Clipping - some of their stuff was good, but none of it ever really made me groove like this EP. This is a great release. I'm a fan.
Just me or is clipping getting even more left-field with the direction of this EP? No track was really an easy listen, like a Summertime or a Work Work. But I anticipate those types of tracks will end up on the next full album. Daveeds singing was suprising too, but I liked it.
They're trying too hard to be noisy and catchy at the same time. you can do both and even combine them but you don't have to push both sides 100 percent of the time. And on top of that daveed is just a cornball. He might fit in with the freestyle fellowship. I know he's from the bay but he's no iamsu or nef the pharaoh...congratulations, you can rap, now get some taste.
