5:33 - Jakki Moore, the 1976 Miss (Republic of) Ireland, was (and probably still is) a delightfully down-to-earth woman.. As she told “The Irish Sun” newspaper (20 Sep 2017); “I didn’t even know how to walk in high-heeled shoes, which can be clearly seen in the Miss World pageant as I was the only contestant to go barefoot. I associated swimsuits with swimming in the sea, so the thought of wearing heels seemed alien to me.” There's something wonderfully unpretentious about the idea of a girl daring to walk in bare feet in an internationally-broadcast contest when all the other competitors were unimaginatively "following the herd" and wearing crippling high-heels. Jakki went on to pursue a lucrative career as a fashion model before completing her university degree course in archaeology (which was interrupted by her appearances in the Miss Ireland and Miss World competitions). She's now a successful creative consultant, artist, illustrator and cartoonist based in Norway. Good on her! 🙂🙂
