The drain access being at the bottom of a small pit is pretty ingenious. I wonder what official back in the day decided that should be code, because it sure seems to help prevent messes when unblocking a drain.

Yes it does, depending on the house and main sewers level there are some that are deeper!

Awesome vid, here in Kansas City they don't put house traps down in a pit like that, they just extended risers up to floor level which makes getting the cable to go down line very difficult. Sometimes the inlet and outlet are 3-4 feet deep. I like the way it's done in NYC. I just found your channel and hit subscribe after the first video!

Pro tip from a retired washing machine repair guy. Low temp washing over a long time kills washers because of soap build up especially in hard water areas. Run your machine on its hottest wash once a month. it will do your machine and pipes the world of good.

Always neat to see how different the tools we have to deal with our U.S. drain systems and layout vs other parts of the world like the other drain channels. :) Very cool. :D Although as people know our drains and infrastructure are in pretty poor condition...lot of rust in that pipe. :O

BOLTS , we call it house trap, or a main sewers clean out, so I would say yes its pretty similar

I'm enjoying watching your videos. I'm curious as to why you don't do the trap and downstream cleanout first? it seems to me it would be helpful to do that so when you go upstream the trap has more capacity and the money shot will help clean out what you already did that direction.
