those are grounds run from electric panels/meters to the copper water service. the one loosely screwed into the side of cast iron drain is new to me though :))

once upon a time, there existed whole pipe underground there lol. now the bottom is likely gone or if clay tile separated apart or cracked up. dang roots

tree roots are a major problem in nyc, especially in the outer boroughs Sometimes the roots come from city trees, and you cannot technically cut them down. the city doesn't help at all either

aye they be roots me hearty. whats the breaking strain on your machine ,olivers (drain addict) simular machine to yours got tangled up in some roots and snapped the cable at the end +he dropped ratty down the pipe (got him back though),,great video

Hi from Nottingham, England. Your treatment of the inspection cover caps looks brutal but necessary if the threads are rusted. Why don’t you get a chisel with a hand guard, it saves a lot of pain!!! I wanted to ask why the N.Y. sewer system always have 2 inspection points next to one another

Russell Kitson...Those cover caps have been there since God was a boy, they are so deteriorated, there's no use in trying to save them. They're dry rotted and too far gone anyhow. 🙄🤦‍♀️

iron pipe, you need to ground that. Just the same as water pipes

the hole drilled and screw into the pipe was bad, since it was also loose. I'd assume they bonded the drain lines to the water service, I've seen older homes with knob and tube ran around cast iron tubs make them electrically live when they wetted insulation, it actually made the whole drain system live, due to a section of ABS being inserted into the cast iron stack! you'd get something like 50 to 90 volts AC from faucet piping to tub/drain line. lucky the didn't get electrocuted, I measured it as capable of about 1/2 an amp!

@@spymasterjr7185 Yes but anyone worth their salt would use a clamp around the pipe, not drill a hole in it.
