Looks like someone started to build a bathroom in & finish off the basement but never finished. They should have capped off the toilet drain in the floor in case there was a backup. That mess of logs & nuggets could have been avoided. There’s plenty of Corn for Ratty down there. Lol! By the way, Excellent job as always!!! Keep it up! You should have Tee shirts made up that have a picture of a rat eating corn the cob, which says “Corn For Ratty” Ha Ha Ha Ha! The corn for Ratty comment always cracks me up.

Is it called a fossil cap because of its age? As I've been going through your marathon playlist I've been wondering, if the pit is full of sewage (like up to the elbow) and the cap couldn't be hammered off, would you still try to compress it and use the chisel? I haven't seen you cover this scenario yet, but I'm guessing it would be extremely messy.

i bought a rental property once that had 52 feet of 6 inch clay line turned basically into a septic tank, the sludge in there literally looked and smelled like used engine oil, im convinced it was clogged for so long it turned the waste into fossil fuel!!!

Depends on the homeowner, lots of times they rather clean it out themselves, in this case she said her husband needed to clean the mess in the basement and the golden nuggets as well.

If that were me, I'd get you out first, get rid of all the poop and rubbish on the floor, tear down the stud framing, dis infect the floor and then rebuild the stud framing. How could someone let that get so bad for so long?!
