Does the +1/+1 counter really cancel out the -1/-1 counter for persist? I thought numerically it'll cancel out but not metaphysically (each counter stays but adds up to x). Is there a ruling that states counters can cancel each other out?

So I have a few question about the rules of this card. Firstly if I make a copy of a legendary do I have to sacrifice either Morrite or the legendary to uphold the legendary rule or not. And if I make a copy of something like Narfi betrayer king, gutterbones of something else I can revive from my graveyard, can I bring it back with it's ability? Thanks for the video.

Starcity Tcg Card Kingdom I only use card kingdom and have since 2017 they're highly reliable to get ur card orders right and have good packaging. If u only order singles and spend $30+ u get free shipping. They sell nearly all magic products too not just singles highly recommend.

Koll and Moritte? As far as my brews are concerned, they're sticking to the 99 or 98 of decks they would reasonably go in, due to infinite combos not being my jam. Koll's going into the 98 of my Ardenn and Rograkh partner brew, and Moritte's going into the 98 of my Pir and Toothy partner brew.

I'm not sure that the +1/+1 removes the -1/-1. I think they're both there, thus preventing persist infinites. I could be wrong though.

Even though it would persist back into play from the GY... wouldn't it come back as it's original self forgetting what it was and thus not getting a -1/-1 counter even if you picked the same card to clone?

Thought at start we might have a modern version of riku you know being a 4/4 and having a keyword to make him balanced like say joiner of forces the boros commander that free casts on each tribal attack and has stats that makes it hard to kill

So clarification: since the clone effect is a you may effect, what happens when you don't target? I feel that the reading is supposed to be that it gets 2 +1/+1 counters but I don't see how you're supposed to get that. If that was the case couldn't they have just made that clause a separate sentence? Or am I missing something?

According to rule 122.3. If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it. See rule 704

If this card becomes a copy of any non-basic land permanent, but remains legendary, does that mean you have to sacrifice the original as per the legendary rule?

Only if there's another legendary copy out, IIRC. This is why Helm of the Host and Spark Double make or become a non-legendary copy.

Hoo boy. I mean the card is good, but I’m a little worried about wizards printing so many potentially OP commanders. Don’t get me wrong, the card is really cool! It just looks to be part of a scary trend of forcibly pushing up the power level of commander.

This would not work as described with Persist. The -1/-1 counter is still on the creature when it hits the graveyard and would not return to the battlefield. From the Comp. Rules: 121.3. If a permanent has both a +1/+1 counter and a -1/-1 counter on it, N +1/+1 and N -1/-1 counters are removed from it as a state-based action, where N is the smaller of the number of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on it.

@@Artharios77 Effectively, Yes. The counters still remain. Proliferate can still work on the neg counters. That being true, then persist will not work in returning the creature to the battlefield.

The rule states that an equal number of counters is removed so when it is hitting the graveyard a +1/+1 counter and the -1/-1 counter are already gone and it only has a single +1/+1 counter on it so persist DOES trigger. When a permanent with Persist dies, if it had no -1/-1 counters on it, it is returned it to the battlefield under its owner's control with a -1/-1 counter on it.

@@stevenwells1450 IIRC, once a +1 and -1 are on the permanent, they are removed. They do not stay on there unless specified. Anything that doubles or adds additional counters is done before this. So if they received the +1 and -1 at same time, they would cancel out at the same time as well. It wouldn't kill a x/1 creature in this scenario either.

It doesn't combo with Dark Depths sadly... Though you can easily use Marit Lage's Slumber to create Marit Lage and then cast Moritte as a 22/22 which means it's a one hit kill.

I looked at the card and thought that it's probably not that great as many things do it better but cheaper. but you're right the +1/+1 makes it pretty broken with persist.
