Did IT! my aerogarden is chock full o' the "mother" basil and her little clones... did nothing but snip and put them in water. Transferred them to pods in the aero garden once roots were about 2" long
One thing you can use besides a chemical rooting hormone, is a natural one! Cinnamon, aloe, willow are all good natural rooting hormone stuff you can use
Indole-3-butyric acid (typical rooting harmone) while mass production is synthetic it is a natural compound. A natural source for it would be making tea or doing a ethanol extraction from willow bark.
@@epicgardening what kind of honey? does it have to be raw honey or will any suffice? (wow comment 3 yrs ago I don't expect a reply lol so if anyone has any thoughts, chime in!) This was a great thread!
I just put the Basil clipping in a cup of water, and set it in the window. Within a few days, it has tens of roots coming out. *Water* is all you need.
I tried this but something really bizarre happened and the stem sorta curled and came out of the water, I don't know why. Ultimately, I think that's why it failed but I dont know why it happened :((
Tossing them in water is the easiest way , just change out the water every few days. Use non chlorinated water. Took mine about 8 days to start growing strong roots , didn’t use any root starter.
I’ve found that you can certainly clone cannabis in this exact way. However, I’ve done this technique with using a small seedling starter pot filled with soil rather than using cultiwool during the propagating process. Cause you’ll still be able to see the roots come me out the drainage holes of the small seedling pot
Love your videos but I think you are overcomplicating this one. Although I have just recently started I have had100% success with this method. 1) Cut the basil. Doesn't have to be below a node because the roots do not develop from the node but from the end of the stem. 2) Place the cutting in water and set on sunny windowsill. 3) When roots start forming, transplant to potting soil. That's it. This has even worked with basil that I have gotten from a package at the supermarket, as long as the basil wasn"t too old and dried out.
Don't have a particular plant in mind. I am raising a plethora of herbs and eventually want to learn to propagate them all properly! It's new territory for me.
I have one major complaint about your method. One should never put a cutting INTO your grow powder. You have contaminated the container with whatever disease the plant might have. Always put the powder that you will use into another container.
My store basil propogation is really just 1 stem and I just moved it into soil 3 days ago after almost 3 weeks in water but it looks like the growth has slowed. I only water it if the top soil has started to get dry. I just hope it continues to grow - if I'm doing anything wrong pls do let me know.
In a write up you did (that had a link to this video) you said you prefer the gel over the powder 6:33 , but here you said you prefer the powder over the gel. What changed your opinion? Or am I mistaken?
Is it safe to use clonex or powdered hormone on plants we are going to eat? I was planning to use it but I’m a little apprehensive about it as I don’t want to consume anything that’s not healthy. Any insights?
Hi Thank you for the peaceful video, I mean it. I felt happy to see hope and truth together. Anyway, question - being an ardent farmer's market loyalist and enthusiast, basil does seems seasonal. It made me wonder how one would resume when the season starts, if propagation was by stems and not seeds. Basil has seeds as well, so may be farmers at large do not know or practise this method to perennially grow them?
I'm doing this and I have a consistent high failure rate. The roots rot or the leaves wilt. Maybe I'm using the wrong kind of basil, or it's too hot in my room (25C)
Hello a question can you tell can we have basil roots in sponge and can we have. Basil roots from short thick strem and without rooting hormone can we have root's
I always do Basil cuttings straight to water, but yes, once they root, all transplants go into a seedling mixture, which 99% of the time is coco or peat based. ANY of these herb plants you buy will come in that type of a soil...there's a reason for that. So yes, it will definitely work!
Not enough info.. How long until it roots? Where are you leaving that box with the herb inside or out? What temperature should the environment be or what is ideal? Is the material your planting them in cost effective? As I've had high success with just water
So i've tried cloning basil in various ways, usually with success because basic just goes nuts. My problem is no matter what I do it always wants to bunch up those leaf nodes and try to go to flower. Is there a way to stop it? My basil usually looks at about the same stages yours was in, so right before it starts developing flowers but after the nodes grow closer together. Am I taking the cuttings too late?
Yeah, this is common. Could be an issue of you taking the cuttings when the stem you're cutting from is just about to flower. It'll want to continue that process. I'd try to take from younger stems :)
Woah you're fast to respond lol. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8xQzeCrCIY4.html It looks like that cut (slightly out of frame) is about to go to flower. Am I somewhat screwed if my plant looks like that for cloning?
Bro just grow some cannabis, watching your videos as of late is like weed grower translating grow language with garden farmers, plus some Equipment you use cannabis cultivators use too.
Exactly the information I needed today. If you partially shade basil you'll get bigger leaves. Watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D-uLwapyCUo.html
