Instead of buying one of those expensive cloning machines for your plant propagation, try these designs out! These types of diy propagation stations are simple and inexpensive to build.
In this video, we'll talk about a design that uses air stones only, as well as a design with a submersible water pump with a 360° sprinkler head to get the job done.
I like both of these styles better than building an intricate PVC network and attaching sprayers to it, because they basically perform the same without the need for all of the extra parts.
SPONSOR
Today's video is sponsored by CZ Garden Supply, the manufacturers of some of the products you see used in this video. The heavy-duty net pots and air stone in particular are much better than the standard ones I've used in the past, and I'll be using them in all future builds.

Now I know the difference between the spraying method vs the air stone method. I had watched another video the other night on the sprayer method and thought it was cool - they built it theirs differently than you did using PVC pipes and different sprayer nozzles. But I liked that you demonstrated both method and I loved that you drew pics of both at the beginning to help us visualize.

Kevin great video. Use a cup of hot water to soften the pipework up this will make it much easier to push over the little ridge on the pump. I use it all the time when I have to get tight pipes over adaptors and the like.

Been using the sprayer method for about a year now. Works great. I only use the collars alone, the hole I drilled is just small enough to hold the collars. Smaller collar are better. I was able to fit 8 collars in there. I also use a air pump along with the sprayer it Helps cool the water a bit. Once I see feeder roots, 2 weeks usually, I transplant to a solo cup for a week and then into final spot after that. No need for soil till the solo cup stage.

@@epicgardening Thats why root suffocation and rootrot is so common with dwc unless you run a lor of air and a chiller ;) You might find it interesting to see what happens to aeroponic roots a few hours after being transferred to dwc ;) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VnopLD-SJqo.html Take a spray bottle that produces a very fine mist and apply a very short burst to the stem of a cutting. Inspect the stem closely and you will see it is coated with small droplets with lots of gaps between them. Its not the same as having a solid film of water. Its not radically different to a cutting in perlite where you have damp perlite in direct contact with the stem and air gaps where perlite isnt in direct contact.

If you really feel that way, you can always add a small percentage of H2O2 to add oxygen to the water as it decays into O2 and H2O.

From what I’ve heard you want the stem of the plant in the water. Is this not true?
@vanessahammonds7827

This is the part I don’t understand. I thought the stem would be in water. And for the life of me I don’t understand what the net pot is for...if anyone can explain I would appreciate it. Sees like you could do this with everything here except the net pot?

@markborkowski965 3 года назад
@@vanessahammonds7827 so I managed to successfully make clones now. The part of the stem cut at a 45 degree angle goes into the water. I think the net pot is used in order to hold the neoprene pieces. Could you do it without the net pot? I think so. Could you do it without the neoprene pieces that hold the plant clones in place? I think so, but it just makes it a lot easier to use them. They are really cheap parts on amazon

@@markborkowski965 So total cost was around $40 max for a DIY aeroponics machine. Or exactly $39.1 before tax. Parts included are: Pump: $23.96 on Amazon www.amazon.com/EcoPlus-185-Submersible-Pump-158/dp/B00FHA1WBE/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1435787960&sr=8-1&keywords=eco%2B185&linkCode=sl1&tag=savingse-20&linkId=97579510785da61a8220aa8b41698317&th=1 The pvc pipe $1.90 www.homedepot.com/p/3-4-in-x-10-ft-PVC-Class-200-Plain-End-Pipe-57570/100168741 6 misters $8 total www.homedepot.com/p/Rain-Bird-360-Threaded-Microsprays-2-Pack-MSF2PKS/202078390 Home Depot bucket $3.48 www.homedepot.com/p/The-Home-Depot-5-Gal-Homer-Bucket-05GLHD2/100087613 Home depot lid: $1.76 www.homedepot.com/p/The-Home-Depot-5-Gal-Homer-Leakproof-Lid-5GLD-ORANGE-LID-for-5GL-HOMER-PAIL/202264044 I made the pvc pipe about 4 1/2 inches tall off the top of the pump, and had it make a t shape at the top. For the t shape using the pvc pipes they should be 3- 3 1/2 inches each section. I admit I had pvc end caps which are super cheap, and I had an L and t cross section for the PVC, super cheap (another 3 dollars). I will link those below this portion. I used only 5 of the misters, and saved the extra incase I ever needed to replace one. Not only is this method cheaper, it lasts longer. Oh and my hydro store game me neoprene inserts for aeroponics free. You only need at most 10, so the cheapest available gets you 30 and is $8.95 on Amazon (link below as well) PVC t or cross $1.44 www.homedepot.com/p/1-2-in-Schedule-40-PVC-Cross-C420-005/100347454 PVC L or elbow $0.46 www.homedepot.com/p/Charlotte-Pipe-3-4-in-PVC-Schedule-40-90-S-x-S-Elbow-Fitting-PVC023000800HD/203812123 4 End caps $2.52 www.homedepot.com/p/3-4-in-Schedule-40-PVC-Cap-C447-007/100345011 Neoprene inserts for aeroponics $8.95 www.amazon.com/Pack-Black-xGarden-Clone-Collars/dp/B01GDPCS96/ref=sr_1_35?dchild=1&keywords=aeroponic+foam&qid=1604436042&sr=8-35

@@markborkowski965 I think the air stone is worthless since the pump is already doing the work, and the method I explain might be around $50 after I added costs that I didn't have laying around. Either way my way is much more durable and affordable. Sorry I don't have time to make a video rn, but maybe in the near future.

@@jher6969 Hey I responded in the replies to my comment with links, I added it up and its roughly more like $50 if you don't have any PVC supplies laying around. You could get cheaper pumps from craigslists or other similar websites too, I got mine that way, and the seller gave me around 3 extras for free (lucky break maybe, or maybe because they are old and used). Either way you can get it all new for $50 total, if you have none of the materials at home. Sorry I didn't respond earlier I have been super busy, which is why I can't make a video till some time in the foreseeable future.
