He takes my breath away total stage control the voice the beard the perfect teeth the wife beater vest how could any woman say no to this gorgeous man still loving him in 2024
Teddy was 28 when this concert was filmed in Lake Tahoe, CA in Feb. 1979. At the end of this song, the audience gave Teddy a spontaneous standing ovation.
I agree with you Cindy. I literally lost my breath when he took his shirt off. From head to toe this man was the whole package - pure man ! RIP Teddy Bear🐻 Thank you for Blessing us with your passion for music.
They just don't make them like that anymore. Handsome, classy and down right a fantastic deep voice... almost all the good ones are gone now,,,teddy, luther, barry, isaac etc. they all had the music and voices that just made you wake up and listen... God Bless you Teddy no more hurt from this world....
holy crap, this man is incredible. This is one of my all time favorite jams, and to see this performed live, I probably would've screamed just like all the ladies.... the dude is too good.
No autotune no voice tuning. He sounded even better live than on the album. What happened to needing this level of talent to be considered a performer? This man is truly a legend. RIP
I have never ever in my 50 years of life seen a man as sensual, sexy, charismatic and TALENTED. NOW I know how it feels like when seeing and watching someone takes your breath away.. It is real and I had never before experienced it. Now I know, Teddy Pendergrass is the most stunning and soulful man I have ever seen in my entire life. Bless your soul, Teddy.
Now you know why Teddy said some of the 'big boys' purchased front row seats for one of his performances in Philly, (I believe it was), and their ladies became so enamored with him that he could see the men becoming vehemently angry with him. He knew what those men were capable of, so he would not risk his life by doing the second show. Teddy said he lost money, but he didn't lose his life. My man Teddy.😂😂❤
Serious soul singer, when he walked away from the Mic and came back and said I waited all day long the power that he has as a singer / vocalist is incredible rip Teddy Pendergrass ! 👏🏽👊🏽
Some people just have "it" - they don't even need to try. Teddy had the deadly combination of being ridiculously handsome with a sensational voice - it also helped that he was sex on legs ... Absolutely stunning performance - today's artists should watch and weep because they can only dream of this level of talent. Very much missed 💔 ... And now we have Bruno leaving the door open - confused!
They will not be forgotten just happy that I was born to live and enjoy the great music and memories they have given us. Not like the cheap music of auto tune the music today is about money not talent
If he was here on earth, he would mentor the young black male singers such as Johnny Gill, Neyo, and Jon B into bring a lady to Estasy without having to take your shirt off and it’s about letting your voice do most of the work!
Teddy, Teddy, Teddy. You really had it all. What an amazing talent. The sound of Philly. Thank you for the music and the memories that went with it. Peace.
To this day there hasn't been a soul singer to reach this caliber of A) vocal strength, spirit and unparalleled stage presence. B) Magnetism and sheer testosterone. C) Ability to actually sound better LIVE than the recorded studio versions of their work. Teddy Pendergrass was the Reverand James Cleveland, Marvin Gaye( Stronger pipes go to Teddy) and Jackie Wilson(Stage Presence) rolled into one. His concerts were legendary and besides being geared towards the romantic theme, his concerts were like going to a gospel jubilee. High energy and no holds barred when he hit the stage. The man had the audience completely eating out of his hand when he walked on stage and to say he was captivating was an understatement. Close the Door was a favorite I would sing to a young lady I was dating back in my teens and Needless to say I owe a debt of gratitude to Teddy for giving me some tips on how to romance a beautiful lady through song. Luther Vandross never really hit home like Pendergrass did at least to me. Like Budweiser and Budweiser Lite, Luther was teddy "lite." Meaning Luther didn't have half the swagger or charisma this man did. Vocal wise Luther had good harmony in his voice but Teddy had FIRE. Teddy had SPIRIT and you knew he was feeling the holy ghost even in his "love zone" recordings. A true legend who belongs with the ELITE of the elites. RIP Mr. Pendergrass. The Lord has brought you back home and I know that choir is in good hands now.
Michael Washington Hey Michael, how are you? No disrespect towards Marvin Gaye at all. Marvin was a very formidable singer and as far as i'm concerned a true American poet on many levels. BOTH men were the bonafide as you would say REAL deal but Teddy did have the stronger pipes. Even Gaye HIMSELF said as much. Two different style of singers but both possessing the GIFT. As far as live performances I personally prefer Teddy because he just had an energy and fire that Marvin to me didn't seem to have. Teddy had that extra "IT" that made his live performances off the charts. Vocally he was on point in his live performances and Marvin at times had a tendency to sort of not give 100 percent. BOTH sounded just as good as their studio work live but there were times Marvins voice did not project and one could barely hear him. Marvin sung from his throat and Teddy sung from his diaphragm. Big difference there. Nonetheless I RESPECT and miss them both. True American legends in my book.
Curtis Ostriker marvin and teddy not even for the same category... both EXCELLENT......... singers.... story tellers ...performers.. sexy and beautiful!... teddy to me vocal style is like a cave man.... rough .. sexy... seduccion.... beat the chocha up with his pipes... kind of man. marvin .... his voice is like fine wine.. also seduction... but a more relaxed sensual and mellow...... to me he's the trick you out of your panties.. with his smooth voice kind of man.....and will have the panties en the floor before you even know you removed them... teddy will just snatch them off!.. and there will NEVER be anyone again like those 2... just my truths... be blessed
Teddy was something. he said I know what to do wit it lol. Rest on, Teddy Pendergrass. He was so talented. He sounded exactly the same live as he did on the radio or record.
I know that everyone's focus is the dripping sexuality in this video (which is very understandable), but man, listen to the quality of that live music. The horns, the tapping percussion.....this is old skool R&B music at it's highest level.

Uncle Teddy doin' it big time here bringin' that chocolate thunder. Very surprised panties weren't getting thrown onto the stage during this performance.
i'm a man and i think the performence is extraordinary. it's extremely real, no bullshit, the message is clear. sometimes i feel like i'm born too late seriously.
"Let me do what I want to do...all I wanna do is make love to you!" Go head, playa! This song was the ANTHEM back in the day. Man, nothing beats old school music. Teddy was IT. Still is. R.I.P. Teddy Bear and walk tall with the angels.
Yes, Teddy can definitely inspire a woman to crave what he gives! I loved him since he first recorded this song, and so many others. I still feel the sensuality of his performance to this day! Geez, where is a man I can transfer that to! God bless your soul, Teddy. I will see you again.
Honey, I don't think there was a girl of any color that didn't think TP was crazy, sexy, cool. I sure didn't know any. He was the epitome of hot. I was just explaining to a young friend that back in the 70s, TV n radio was heavily censored so TP couldn't bust out his moves like, say Prince did. Good thing really, cause I'm certain there would have been a LOT of women fall out, literally. Yes I would have been one.
Teddy was a minister as a child. Don't know if that was Biblical, but he, like Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield, Aretha and Marvin Gaye had those Church backgrounds. I'm beginning to wonder if God has a problem with his people crossing their singing over into secular music. A few of them have left here in a really bad way. Besides that, Teddy's voice was "phenominal"!!

This is a very sad day. Many gen-X'ers were conceived during Teddy Bear songs...he was the official mid 70's music to make love to! Awesome drummer with the most incredible, sexy voice ever. RIP Teddy P, you will never be forgotten. Love and blessings to your family. You are in our hearts and prayers.
Teddy knew he was the shit. He's the type when Everyone else rushing towards him, you have to sit and ACT UNIMPRESSED and let him COME TO YOU. #FREEGAMELADIES
And all he had to do was slide and strut up and down the stage, sangin' and "displaying" his....ah, wonderful "feature" daring women to indulge their fantasy. Makes all the current gyrations and bump and grinding rather....well, overwrought.
Thats really soul feeling!! Very handsome .Really Brother to me.Real soft and nice.Hi I come from Italy Venezia. A very beautiful place to be..ciaooo Ciaoo.Stay with me .Like two diffrent culture .Also i enjoyed.Ciaoo.

Some Say he couldn't dance !! I'm happy with what I see of his performance. But I'm sure he could F..ck and blow a woman's mind and has done till this day R.I.P Teddy 🌹
***** my definition of "the swag king of R&B" is he brought something different to the R&B game, like Luther, Marvin, Otis, Stevie, Sam, Lou, Isaac & Freddie just to name a few. His stage presence and quality in his recordings is what you call R&B. He changed the pinnacle for all male singers involved at the time. His baritone and "swagger" is what set him apart. Had he not had that accident, he well could've been the biggest R&B star in the manner that Luther, Marvin and Stevie Wonder did. Yet their versions of R&B are totally different. That's what I was implying.
If not for the accident. He would have challenged Michael. Think about it. By’82, Teddy was 32 and Michael was 24. 8 years separating them but damn, women would have posters and promotions would have been OUT OF SIGHT.
@@Jetsea The men of R&B were showing out. So many talents. Teddy was going where no other artist (maybe Prince) was going. He held R&B down, but I wondered what if he went the pop route and didn't have that accident.
