Would you ever have believed that the explosion of the red giant Betelgeuse was imminent? New close-up images show that something strange is happening on Betelgeuse. Since 2019, the ancient star has been showing signs that dramatic changes are taking place inside it. After an event that became known as the "Great Dimming", Betelgeuse again showed abnormalities in 2023 that could not initially be explained by the normal processes on this star. Does this now mean that Betelgeuse will soon explode after all and we on Earth will witness a magnificent supernova?

Seeing how it's 724 light years away from us, how the hell does anyone know what is happening on Betelgeuse right now. It easily could have exploded 600 years ago and we wouldn't know it for another 124 years.

Absolutely. It always bugs when a so-called science show fails to point out that everything we observe is peering into the past.

Exactly. Still, it would be pretty spectacular if the timing played out where we could see it happen.

The assumption is that watchers are smart enough to know that they are taking the distance into account, and mean when the event happens 'for us'.

There's a good chance that this star has already gone Supernova and for a while now because you know we just may not have seen it yet because it's so far away.

Unfortunately, other Orion's stars like Rigel, Saiph and Bellatrix will also suffer the same luck as Betelgeuse's, ending their miserable lives as supenovae

Speed of light… If takes YEARS for light to travel to us from any distant star, is it likely that BETTELGUISE already detonated.

Okay, but what if either of beutleges' poles are pointed directly towards our star or solar system? Wouldn't a plasma jet be fired off during the stars explosion? While a neutron stars poles shoots jests of plasma off could destroy whatever is in its path.

Since it seems to be shrinking, could it be that it's maybe collapsing in on itself?. Scary stuff.

Praps there is an inhabited planet that no scientist knows about that have been using Betelguese for its sun but who now makes they're way to the next nearest neighbour for a replacement 😳🛸

I was thinking the same thing. It’s becoming so unstable now that they may need to hop over to a star with a larger habitable zone

100,000 years is imminent?

Yes, on a cosmic scale. Let the suns life equal one day, that's 24 hours, or 1,440 minutes, or 86,400 seconds. 100,000 years is 1/45,000 of the suns life or about 2 seconds. Sounds pretty imminent to me.
