Closed In Solar RV Porch Charging Batteries And Finished Barrel Stove

I finally got the passive solar RV porch closed in. Now it will help protect the RV from the cold winter days and nights. This is sort of like window sealer for the whole RV.
When the sun shines it will heat up the solar porch passively sort of like a greenhouse and help to heat the RV during the daylight hours of winter.
I got the door hung and closed in with plastic as well. It looks good and feels great to have my porch finished.
To collect heat from the sun all I need now is some black plastic on the back wall of the porch. But the leaves are still on the trees so I am not yet catching the morning sunlight so this can wait a week or so until I find the proper material.
I finished the barrel stove conversion kit. I sealed all the cracks and seams with stove cement to make sure there will be no air leaks.
The barrel stove will go into the outdoor wood stove shed to heat the RV through the bedroom window. All I have to do is open the window and set up a fan to blow hot air into the RV.

Hey Troy. You are doing a great job. and thanks to all those who have taken time to visit, and help, He is making his own way thru life, and figuring things out, as we all should! Troy is an example for all of us, and a true blue honest and straight shooting kind of guy, I know, I have been up there 2 times, we have shared stories, and life experiences. Please support those who are trying to teach us! He is a rare example.

Troy, I've been watching you for the past 3 - 4 months now. I have to say, you have a great thing going here. I love watching you do what you do best. It gives me ideas and tips, I never had any construction experience before watching your videos, but i'm learning more and more as I watch them! I'd just like to ask you to keep doing what your doing!

Troy, You are a class act and I really enjoy your videos. Anyone who has watched your channel more than once knows you are for real. Most of us viewers know that there are some real jerks out there who have nothing better in their lives than to try and tear down other so they feel better. Keep up the "good" work and stay tough, my friend.

Thanks. Nice to hear. My advice is to simply make sure you get the most sun during the whole year. Keep the wires short as possible or use an MPPT charge controller and keep the voltage up high to reduce losses in the lines.

Interesting what you're doing up there in the woods off the grid. I want to do that in my retirement and build a two room home in western North Carolina. I've spent a lot of time late at night viewing your videos and learning a lot. It's better that television. I cannot imagine why some people would wish you harm. Thanks and good luck out there with everything and take care.

Love the porch, such a great idea, now I'm wondering if I can do something like that for mine. So sorry people are getting out of control with the comments and even going so far to threaten, You are doing something good here, and teaching me a lot of new ways to go more eco friendly. Hoping all your evidence gathering gets these vicious spirited people off your back, in the mean time, bless you, sir.

Troy, you're a good guy-posting your experiences and helping others with your knowledge. I am working on an off-grid cabin right now, and I LOVE watching your videos. I may not learn a lot, but I can compare your hard work and mistakes to those I have made. When I make mistakes, it is hard. But, you make them too and I realize nobody is perfect, and nobody knows everything about being off grid, construction, etc. Keep doing what you are doing. Some of us appreciate you.

Troy you need to put some of wood strips over the plastic where you stapled it. You get one windy day and it will all be gone without them. The barrel stove will smoke for the first few times you fire it up.

Troy--use can surround the bottom of the stove with cinder blocks. They have fire bricks that you can place up against the stove which will radiate heat outward. On the walls you can use pre-made stove boards or heavy sheet metal or copper.

I know the feeling Troy, not sure why people do or say things to drag others down, strange times we live in I guess, like the good book says, "Bless those who curse you," I just figure that if the world didn't have negative people, most of which can't spell, LOL, then life would not be a challenge; helps us to be better people. We need to overcome, and we do. We all need to have the rain to appreciate the sunshine. Great Job!

Hey Troy. Have you thought about painting the floor black as well? Also if you can, try to insulate the floor. The ground is going to stay really cold and will suck a lot of heat out of your room. As for your stove, if you take a piece of metal just bigger than the stove and stand it off of the side walls by 2 inches it will create a lot better insulating factor than just placing it directly on the wall. All that will do is transfer it to the wall anyway. I heat my home with wood also

I hope that's a temporary setup. We used to have a canvas covered car port on this property and it doesn't take but six months of UV exposure and strong seasonal winds to shred those. You're a bit sheltered from the wind and sun with those trees, but I'd be surprised if that lasts more than five years. Best wishes.

When visiting friends in the area do they have the same concerns you have for humidty issues. The enclosed porch looks GREAT! Loved that you allowed the excess on the bottom. Hey troy, I've been watching your vids for a while now and I have a suggestion about the skirting around the porch and rv. have you considered buying a load of hay bales and placing them around as wind breaks? it is getting near Halloween and bales should be fairly easy to come by. Possibly stack them around the outside wall of the stove room for extra insulation and wind protection. Again just a thought. Love your vids and love your passion for living of the grid. I hope the moveable rack for the solar panels will be coming soon. I know you need it, but I also know you got to get heating taken care of first. Just a thought, y not look into making some custom heater hoses that you can attach to your Honda, then if worse comes to worse, not only can you run the Honda to charge your batteries, by connecting the heater hoses form rv motor to your Honda, you could also use it as an emergency heat source. keep up the good work Troy, you'll get there my friend.
