@@doinkz333how the fuck were THEY toxic? she was faithful to him no matter what and he CHEATED. typical man, telling me what to do. lol. get therapy and change your ways before you have a daughter
I saw this movie shortly after a break up. I thought a cute romantic comedy would cheer me up. This movie messed me up. By the time it was over, I had been reduced to a puddle of tears. I love it! It's one of my favorite movies of all time. Natalie Portman was amazing!!
Unbelievable. So he cheats on her and then expects her to wait for him to come back like a good little girl.. and then he slaps her yet too. Ugh how disgusting
Natalie Portman’s character is so strong and she’s so vulnerable. She gives herself totally emotionally but she carries the temporary nature of everything with her all the time and when her vulnerability is inevitably abused and taken for granted by someone who can’t understand her duel nature she leaves to her next temporary life ♥️
I still remember when she won the Golden globe for this, Meryl Streep was nominated in the same category, and Natalie won. So Meryl got on stage that night to present another award and teased Natalie about it 😂 It was funny.
She stopped loving him after realizing he doesn’t even have the least amount of trust in her when she was already telling the truth. So she lied to him since he wanted to know the “truth” and doesn’t trust her anyways
All he sees is her vulnerability and her giving nature. He failed to truly understand her strength and dual nature, the performative yet complex nature of her existence, her anchor lying in the ability to reinvent herself over and over and yet be true to each invention. What a loser he is.
One of the best scripts ever written. And the cast was the best. Timeless story line, superb acting. For most people the script is above their intellect. This movie has so many layers. It truly is brilliance in the execution.
No she stopped loving him because he cheated in her and broke her heart .. and she's realized that he's back because Julia Roberts didn't want want him anymore... ! Her pride kicked in and and she was just done
Fear of abandonment. She made sure she ended it first, before telling him the truth. Nobody leaves her, remember. She thinks the the real her isnt loveable, once they know the truth, they leave, plain Jane Jones isnt special like Alice Ayres.
She was mine too. At least she set herself free from what could have been another disaster with Dan. Larry was a good guy until he is hurt. So much for being manipulative and revenge. He likes to torture and be tortured.
I don't think Larry was the best character. He ended up going back to the woman who cheated on him with a taken man. He has no morals and certainly no self respect. He asked for sex from Anna in exchange for signing the divorce papers. Even though Jane/Alice did go back to her cheating partner, she left quickly and ultimately moved far away from him and the toxicity as soon as she realized that there's no love and hope in that relationship no matter how hard they try. I think her action was a real example of maturity
In the end it doesn't even matter who slept with who. What matters is that both men are possessive in their own way, and all 4 of them lose because of it. Nobody gets 'closer' to one another, because they are all cowards when it comes to their true feelings and nature. In desperate pursuit of what they want, they sabotage their own happiness. To me that is the main theme of the movie.
Yes, the women are completely perfect in this movie and had nothing to do with their relationship failures. Because they are women and are just passive vessels and incapable of having any agency.
@@beejsplacegamesloungelagos5157 no. That's not love. Love is painless.... because love is selfless. Suffering comes from expectations. But there's no expectation in love. So, no pain as well. But yeah, ATTACHMENTS hurt. Because attachments consist of demands.
This is such a satisfying movie. The cheater ended up with nothing 🤣 and what's worse he didn't see that coming when he found out she didn't even give him her real name 😅😂
@@onomedabarbara He was so full of himself and used to be in control of all his past relationships so he never knew how to be in the receivers end, while Alice is always in the receivers end so she knows that trust will never be part of the deal. She opened up to Larry coz she saw herself in his situation being at the end of the stick. So Dan finding out that Alice has not been honest with him to begin with is just the icing on the cake hahaha For the very first time in his life he got played. He thought that losing two women was the end of it. Well, surprise !!!!
@@duedate2811Jane let Larry touch her before Dan confessed to cheating. Jane was a stripper and Larry was a whoremongerer with messed up fetishes and arguably a pdfile. The other two were complete opposites. I think you're just dunking on Dan because he wasn't the fkboy after all.
I can go back to the scene every so often and the reason is when she says "where? Where is this love?...I hear some words but I can't do anything with your easy words." People's actions and the way they make you feel are so much more important than their words
I've been through this kind of crap with the same kind of shitty guy, it's not love because it doesn't exist, just a narcissist and a young woman who wants to fall in love unconditionally and in the end, she realizes it's just an illusion, he doesn't love her, he loves the power he thinks he has over her but he doesn't know her.
same here. it was when i was needing her the most that she left and told me she wasnt in love with me anymore. then she rubbed her rebound in my face and ghosted me because apparently she hadnt quite been heartless enough
@@maggyfrogchill, she was a damaged character feeling safe crushing on someone older who protected her. he never did anything to her so quit projecting
@@kyon-kyon- bro, that doesn't make it okay. it's not normal for an 11~12y/o to offer her V-Card to an adult, or to another kid for that matter. that was actually a part of the movie's plot, so quit normalizing young/old s3xual fantasies.
One of my favorite movies, however I'll never identify with these toxic people in these poisonous relationships..I couldn't stick around at this stage of my life for the sadness these people dwell in
Though she said she didn't love him any more, she did have some feeling left up until he actually slapped her. But then it was all over. The change in her facial expressions btw right before and after the slap was just WOW. She is a great actress.
One thing I found particularly great in this movie is the contrast made between Larry and Dan. Larry was portrayed to be more raw, savage and brutal in his way of speaking and act and Dan was referred by both women as gentle and gentler than Larry. Anna after confessing cheating was afraid Larry will hit her, but he didn’t on the other hand we see Dan, who was supposed to be gentle, being the one hitting Alice. And don’t know why but somehow I can,t totally believe that Larry and Alice really had sex… and I think there wasn’t a scene which implied they did.
Ja vi varias vezes e nunca me canso

This audio was used in a song created by puhf. So glad someone knew where the audio came from because I've been wondering what the words were in that song since it sounded muffled to me
2:25 I didn't like the fact when Alice (Natalie Portman) grabs the phone and tries to call security on Dan (Jude Law) 2:27 but suddenly, he stops her and snatches it out of her hands and yells at her 2:42-2:46 then slaps her in the face with an angry look
Great movie sad love stories ❤️ life is like that sometimes I know personal experience it sucks I will never love again because my heart always broke 💔
Let’s be honest Dan is still in love with Anna. It’s good Jane walked away. But is heartbreaking to this happen. Damn it Dan why did he have to start all this.
You don't know about the film... She loved him very much he cheated on her.. She is forced to work in a strip club for money.. When his current lover left him he came back to her... Why should she go back with that scumbag... He is not worth it... She is the best character in the film...
Not sure why everyone finds this scene so compelling. I've not seen the movie, so maybe it has more meaning if you've watched it, but the dialogue seemed really stilted and neither actor seemed into it at all. Honestly, all this did was convince me not to see the movie.
I think the stupidest line is she says she would have loved him forever. Lady if it's like that you can't turn it off like a switch. Entertaining move but not realistic at all.
I edit myself into movies and TV shows with green screen and was thinking about editing myself into this movie!!! Any movie suggestions would be great!!
You give yourself away too many times and you end up empty. Find a good partner, get married and hold on for dear life. Stop screwing people that do not have your best interests as their priority. Messed up people, messed up lives.
Is anyone failing to see that natalie portmans character changes her identity constantly. She steals names off of headstones and becomes a new character with every new relationship. She's a psycho in this movie. She's not the victim.
