This build is awesome! It’s pays homage to an iconic battle rifle and freedom fighter while keeping it modern and highly functional to the operator! That makes for a dangerous weapon platform!
What Randy Shughart taught us is to not replicate our M1A rifle to his but to take what is given/chosen and customize it to allow us to shoot as efficiently and effectively as possible
Brother, you have no reason to have to explain yourself. Excellent looking rifle...Have always had the 22" barrels, would like a chance to sport the 18. Till i ware out these, ohh to tha well.
I put my SS Springfield Loaded M1A in a SAGE EBR stock over a decade ago for better consistency and accuracy from the free floating of the barrel and provides a superior scope mount Pic Rail base than those stupid side mount systems that never hold zero for very long. But I misted the traditional stock architecture and iron sights for traditional riflery and ended up buying a second one. A Springfield M1A Super Match. God it's a sweet shooter, it like shooting a Cadillac.
Instead of ruining the rifle you had, should've just went and bought a Springfield Scout Squad for the shorter barrel length and comes with the scout rail as well. You can use the scout rail to mount a standard scope as well as a scout scope by using an AR cantilever scope mount in reverse cantilevering over the receiver. It's far more reliable in holding zero over time than any of those side mount systems.
I had one of those. 4 moa isn’t acceptable for me on a $1600 rifle. The forward mount on them isn’t good to hold zero when it gets hot. My arms 18 mount, however holds zero regardless of how hot I get it… (look at my Shughart rifle video, where I converted my socom into an accurate and reliable build). This is a surplus rifle, it is not special. I love guns, but they aren’t genie lamps… they don’t hold spirits in them. This one gets shot more than most, and I enjoy letting other people at the range shoot and enjoy it. It does a lot more now that it’s turned into something handier and lighter that it ever did stuck in the back of the gun safe. This mini garand setup is a throw back to the tanker model concept that the military tried (and failed) to make reliable and usable.
@@TexasDefenseArticulations Oh, OK, disregard my comment then. When I drilled and tapped a scout rail to the bull barrel of my SS Springfield Loaded M1A back in the 90's, I had no issues holding zero as the barrel heated up. But what I did notice regardless of whether I've use iron sights, optical sights (side or top mount), the point of impact (POI) would drift down as the barrel heated up. This was eventually found to be caused by the stock attachment design of hooking and pressing into the front barrel band, which pushes the barrel up. Then as the barrel heats up it becomes longer via thermal expansion, relieving the pressure on the front barrel band and allowing the barrel to straighten out, causing the POI to drop. This is why after spending years looking for a stock the doesn't rely on the front barrel band for mounting I only found one, the SAGE EBR stock. Been very happy with the accuracy for well over a decade now. The MOA through various handloads range from ¾ to 1½. The ¾ MOA load is molly coated 155gr Sierra Palma bullets with 43.8gr of IMR 4064 at 2590 ft/s. Don't use this load for non moly coated bullets, your chamber pressure will be too high. Forget to mention the other advantages of the SAGE EBR stock is that there is no betting required because it is metal to metal mounting in the all aluminum EBR stock. It comes with a replacement op-rod guide block screws into the all aluminum stock; wich free floats the barrel from that point out. Perfect for the Springfield Loaded M1A because it's a SS bull barrel up to the op-rod guide block.
@@Oldhogleg oh yeah, that Sage stock is legit. It changes the way the gun handles also (for the better). Wasn’t what I wanted for this build, but if I ever decide to get another, I’m sure it’ll end up in the Sage.
@@TexasDefenseArticulations Understandable, I missed the traditional stock architecture with just iron sights about a decade later and bought a Springfield M1A Super Match just a couple years ago for CMP matches. It's a sweet shooter, shoots like a Cadillac, smooth. It's stocked in the Marine Coups fiberglass stock with the woodland camo.
@@TexasDefenseArticulations purchased the arms 18 thinking it would fir my aimpoint patrol with the vortex x3 magnifier, unfortunately short a inch or so need the mini magnifier
"Here's my Shughart rifle" "I don't give a fuck about what I put on this thing, who cares?" Just call it a Socom 16, spare us your thoughts and keep your day job.
Just some rustoleum camo paint. The sand and brown colors. Base layer of sand, and tiger stripes of brown. Stuck it on a stake in the ground so I could move freely around it.
lol, this is the stupidest thing I’ve seen. Bought a socom just to put an 18 inch barrel, stupid oversized flashlight, aimpoint sitting way to high. All to pretend you’re someone you are not.
