Closer Look - Back to the Future Complete Adventures 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Set 

The old transfers aren't as bad as people make them out to be. So tired of hearing them shat on when other things like the Star Trek movies are far more deserving of being complained about. I picked this up for the cool packaging, to have the movies in the collection again and of course for the complete animated series at long last.

@@zaranyzerak I was typing this up in an edit on the original comment but I'll just put it here. I'm surprised to hear you call these transfers acceptable. I find with these things, I tend to get really hot and heated about how bad it is when I first watch it. And once some time passes, I hear those that say "Eh, wasn't that bad." and I think "Ya know, maybe they're right. Perhaps I was too harsh on it, I should take another look and reassess." And every time I inevitably return and confirm, yes, it was really that fucking bad. I'm not really sure how to explain it. If you're familiar with the hallmarks of an old transfer tarted up with processing out the wazoo, it's all there. Perhaps not as bad as other releases, but it's there. If you're interested, the new 4K transfers are fucking amazing. The remasters are also included on the Blu-Rays, though it almost looks like they applied a slight blur to the whole thing to incentivize buying the 4K. 4K is inherently sharper, certainly, but even on my 1080p monitor, the 4K is noticeably sharper compared to the Blu-Ray. Obviously, being from the same master, you wouldn't really expect that. Still, watching them on my 1080p TV, the Blu-Rays looked fantastic.

Cool, maybe I'll grab them on sale at some point then. But I hardly ever watch the set I have, so not a huge priority right now. Prefer to focus on new things than yet another double-dip.

yeah the problem people have with it is the grain from the film has been cleaned away and artificially sharpened which is a problem with almost all catalog universal titles

it's only slightly better than the predator blu ray which is horrible look at that that's basically what people are complaining about

some people believe it is as well with all catalog universal titles as well

+Zaranyzerak Warner used to have nice disc art, but now every single one of their releases has generic black or silver disc with name of the movie on it. For example, it took me forever to track the Full Metal Jacket digibook with the original Animal Mother disc art exclusive to the digibook release. The digibooks on eBay almost always had the silver generic disc with "Full Metal Jacket" written on the disc. And Universal sometimes have nice disc art, like the bonus disc in your vid. The Hitchcock box set has some amazing artwork used on the disc, but the newer releases of the box set have North By North West disc with crappy generic disc art. The increasing lack of disc art is just one of the ways they're cutting the costs for physical media, along with "eco" cases, no interior/reversible artwork on the paper sleeve, as well as cheaper paper used for the cover, instead of nice thick glossy paper.
